Tony blinked, baffled, when Azzo told him that the book wasn't there. It wasn't like it was a particularly popular subject, and he had to wonder who might have checked it out before him. But the status had said available, which meant at some point, if it ever was checked out, it had been checked back in. It either had to be there, or someone had walked out with it. Or, worse yet, it was miss-shelved or lost somewhere in the library.

There were many places a book could get lost.

He moved to glance at the call number on the sticky note, then went to the shelf where it was supposed to be. After a quick scan he saw that Azzo was right, it wasn't there, so Tony checked behind the books to make sure it hadn't been pushed out of place and fallen between the shelves.

"Well, I wouldn't worry," he said as he checked, "it has to be somewhere. If it's not here I can do a proper search of the place and try and track it down. If we don't find it tonight, I can always put it on hold and notify you when we ever do find it. But, ah, I mean. I'm sure it's here somewhere."

Azzo looked around. He looked curiously at the shelves, "Could it be in a place that says it needs to be shelved?" He asked surely no one would steal a library book.

He was rocking slightly back and forth on his heels thinking looking around. "Maybe someone has it on one of those somewhere?" He wasn't quite sure were these shelves were, "They're green right?" He asked again head tilting to look at Mr. Darrow like that silly puppy he was.

A bit distracted, he nodded slowly before he actually heard what Azzo suggested. Looking up from his exploration of the shelf, he nodded again. This time with more conviction, since he actually knew what he was responding to.

"Yes, that might be a good idea," he said, straightening up. He sighed, feeling tired. Older than he was, for a moment, he stretched his back and groaned softly.

Looking at the young man, he pointed to the end of the aisle. "They're at the end of every third aisle or so. Green, yes. And if the book's not on one of those it might be downstairs on a cart, or in the work room."

Azzo nodded, looking at Tony his head canted to the side still, "You okay?" He asked watching the older man for a second.

He couldn't help but feel like a bit of a bother by this point, poor Tony seemed to get all the bad luck. At least the man wasn't getting Coffee on his shirt... though there seemed to be a small ink dot... Azzo frowned slightly.

However, he nodded again and headed towards the front of the aisles to look for the green shelves. "Well it can't have gone too far at least." Azzo said with a nod, he was walking backwards though, watching Tony, to see if he was going to follow or head in another direction to look for the book.

Tony glanced at the shelf one more time, certain it wasn't there, hidden behind the books as some could sometimes do, so he followed Azzo as the boy walked backwards down the aisle.

"No, I don't think it sprouted legs and walked off," he said, laughing softly. He was sure the book was in the library. It didn't strike him as the kind of book someone would just walk off with, after all.

Moving to the closest green shelf, he frowned when he saw it empty. He glanced around, trying to see if he could be lazy and look at the shelves without having to walk to them.

"Perhaps we should check downstairs..." he began to say, not certain anyone would have used the green shelves for their intended purpose.

Azzo looked at the green shelves. Glancing here and here, he did most of the leg work to the near by ones. "Maybe you should put up signs. Place books to be re-shelved here?" He asked, maybe it wasn't obvious enough that there were places to put said books.

Honestly he didn't know what they'd been for either. He glanced on a few more. "Get some big neon signs so they actually read it." Azzo nodded sagely at his idea, he didn't bother to mention it might bring people that are far more interested in the glow than the books.

He looked around, "This place almost reminds me of the library in the pagemaster. I don't think that was three stories or better though." He was willing to follow tony, glancing at any green shelves they passed.

"The shelves are labeled," Tony pointed out. And they were. The flat surface of each shelf said 'place books to be reshelved here', just as Azzo suggested. Of course, it wasn't the most noticeable of things, so perhaps neon signs, or at least something that stuck out a bit more, would be better.

Tony chuckled, "I think I'd like my job even more if there was some Pagemaster-ing going on," he said thoughtfully. Leading the way back downstairs, shoe-less feet silent over the carpet, and then the tile of the Circulation desk, Tony went into the back room after leaving Azzo at the desk.

Habit. The boy could have followed him back, since it wasn't technically during hours, but Tony just didn't think to let him.

He checked through the book trucks and then the rough sorting shelves before he found something he thought might be it. With a projected 'ah ha', he took the book and brought it back to Azzo.

"Is this it?"

Azzo blinked, "So they are." He tilted his head curiously. Thinking those labels were awful tiny. Ah well, maybe someone will eventually read them. "Could always put up a bulletin or something at the front desk that says use the green shelves for books you don't want?"

Azzo nodded, "That was a fun movie. Which is your favorite?" Might as well chat about something as they followed.

When they got back to the front Azzo stayed at the desk, leaning on it watching for Tony to come back out. When he brought the book back out Azzo flipped it over and inspected it before opening the back, where they normally had the author info to see his grandfather's picture. "Yessir." He said with a nod.

Azzo glanced out to see if it was completely dark out yet. Considering the bit of trouble that might provide if it was. "I have a few already checked out, but is it okay if I get this one too?" He asked looking at Tony hopefully. "I can bring the others back tomorrow if you'd rather." Azzo wasn't sure what the limit was.

Tony returned to the computer and pulled up Azzo's account, not needing to see his card to do so. Since it wasn't technically work hours any way, he didn't need to follow strict protocol. Usually he was very strict about having your ID or library card, and many people stalked off from the desk when he told them they would not be able to check out books without either one.

Tony was used to that, though. He didn't feel bad for them.

"Of course," he said, when Azzo asked him about checking out the book, "I think we tested the system once and the cap was over a hundred items checked out. So you should be okay for a while yet, I think." He grinned, teasing. There was no limit for checking out items at this library, though it was up to the patron to remember to bring things back, or face fines.

Big ones.

He checked the book out, ran it through the densensitizer twice, just to make sure the old thing actually did its job, then stamped it and handed it to Azzo. Due back in two weeks, according to the stamp.

Azzo nodded, and paused when Tony pulled up his account. He looked at the older man with his head tilted, he had thought Mr. Darrow was going to ask for Id and all that routine stuff, instead the older man didn't.

He paused, lofting a brow, "I don't think anyone could read that many in the time you guys allow for check outs anyways." He added with a curious look over to the children's section. Almost like he wanted to try it. Of course, not today.

Azzo took the book looking at the thing tony swiped it over twice. He seemed to be thinking. "I probably ought to head home." He said glancing back at the window. It was dark of course, like always... Maybe he wouldn't have to run into trouble tonight. "At least, I should head home before Freddy's out wondering the streets. Wouldn't want to run into a Nightmare on Elm street movie." He grinned joking. "Then I'd have to explain why there were claw marks in a book, instead of rationalizing why Mr. Gordon would want to microwave one."

He paused in his joking, "Oh and thanks for helping me find this." He added with a nod.

Tony looked at Azzo gravely at the mention of the microwaved book. It wasn't something he liked to relive, and he was very hesitant that Ray might come back some time for another victim. And Tony could not refuse service, so the poor book would be abandoned to its fate.

He shook his head, though, chuckling at length.

"Well, at least Freddy only seems to target teenagers. Sorry about that, though. I'm sure you'll make it home before he gets out. But whatever happens, you protect that book: I will fine you whether you get killed by a nightmare or not."

He frowned privately at the joke. It seemed like a strange thing to be joking about now, when he was having so many bad dreams, nightmares, of his own. Still, he shook off the creeping sensation the reference brought and a smile returned to his face.

"It was no trouble. If you need anything else, feel free to drop by. Whenever. And if you're heading out, be sure the door shuts completely behind you."

Azzo nodded, after Mr. Darrow seemed to get that he was joking. "Of course. I'll try to avoid that, better me than the book at any length."

He shook his head, "Still creepy things and joking all aside. Good night sir." He said as he headed towards the doors. "Will they lock behind me?" He asked head tilted as he leaned on the door to see if it'd open without unlocking it. Which he would very heavily doubt, and probably be forced to unlock the blasted door before he could take off.

"And if I do need anything else I will drop by. Though I'll probably be back in a few days to drop off the other books." He had to double check but he thought a few of them were getting close to the deadline.

"It will. You should be able to get out, but not back in," Tony called from the counter, confident in this enough so that he didn't feel the need to follow after the boy. He was used to the doors, knowing they had a habit of sticking and not shutting all the way when people came in and out. They were locked on the outside, but that wouldn't matter if they didn't close enough for the lock to catch.

"Alright, good night, Azzo," he said, smiling in that friendly way of his. He looked over at the couch, looking forward to taking a nap. Or just falling to sleep completely, since he doubted he would be heading home now. Good thing he kept extra sets of clothing in the library.

As the boy made to leave, Tony went to the sofa he was staring at so intently. Laying down, he let out a big yawn before shutting his eyes and letting himself doze off once more. Hopefully this time no one yelled at him and woke him up again.

Of course, with everything closed and most of the lights off, and the place empty, he doubted it.
