Doucette's subtle warning fell on deaf ears. The rabbit's chipper mood had already been set in motion and, like a speeding train, there would be no stopping it. He ears bobbed as she hovered in place. They were just as eager as she was, both ready to feel the proper embrace of a hat for the first time. Better yet, it appeared as though LuLu would be leaving this transaction with her pocket book, or rather her Gram-gram's pocket book, untouched. The times had been changing rapidly and nowadays the frei was extra mindful of how much spending went on around her.

She made sure to smile and give a bow to both women to show her appreciation. Her thanks came out like a rich, sickeningly sweet syrup, "Oh! Thank you Miss Doucette. Thank you so much." She clasped her hands just under her bust and wrung her tiny fingers together as if she was becoming burdened by her elder's generosity. However, it was the facade of a dainty princess that LuLu loved to don. In reality, she would probably try to score free things from Doucette again one day if this turned into a pattern.

The frei grabbed a pen and a scrap of paper from the counter so she could jot down her home address. She wasted no time in handing over her information to Doucette even though the woman was practically a stranger. Being the ever vigilant and mindful raevan that she was, LuLu made sure to add a few amendments to their exchange as she passed the slip of paper to the fair Irish lady. Her voice became a tad sterner as she spoke, "Do not use the front door Miss Doucette. I will meet you by the back gate. Okay?" She looked up at the woman with large, lavender eyes. Eyes that were going to weigh her response. After all, no one in her family needed to know about this deal between the two of them. Josh would throw a fit if he found out LuLu had run off and made loose with their private information. The way she saw it, what he did not know would not hurt him.

A rich laugh followed the rabbit-princesses words, Doucette's curls bouncing at the small wiggle of her shoulders. "Now here I thought we were becoming friends! You don't need to call me miss anything. Just Doucette. Or, if you're feeling really forward, Doe is fine too!" Those blue eyes twinkled with that half shade of humor and the other half of teasing. It truly wasn't any trouble for the girl and although Lulu might thing it was some grand gift or gesture, Doe just felt happy to do something that made someone's day a bit happier. Some day the woman would have her own Frei to take care of and she hoped Lulu and her charge would get along well. The bunny girl was certainly sweet enough to be put on the list of people to be considered future friends!

"It will be our little secret!" Doe replied with a wink and a smile, holding a finger to her lips to seal the universal pact. After confirming exactly where the home was, as the neighborhood was slightly unfamiliar to the woman, Doucette told Lulu the day she'd stop by and about the time so she could be on the look out. "I will see you then Lulu!" she said with a wave over her shoulder as they departed ways.

A few days later, right on time, Doucette looked between the paper Lulu had given her and the house before her. The back gate loomed ahead and the Irish woman began to wonder if she'd made a mistake of agreeing to sneak around with such an innocent gift. Would Lulu's care taker be offended that she'd offered such a thing to his charge? What had seemed like a non-issue only a few days ago suddenly felt like a weight on her shoulders. But she wouldn't let the sweet girl down so easily.

With a little tap on the gate Doe waited patiently for Lulu to arrive. The shopping bag hung before her, clutched in both hands but weighing just a slight bit more than it had in the store. Apparently something else had found its way into the bag between the store, Doucette's home, and Lulu's home.

A slight shuffling arose from behind the gate before its latch rattled and the wooden planks finally creaked open. Violet eyes peeked out from the gap, large and docile. They glimmered in the light as they stared up at Doucette. A cherubim smile parted LuLu's lips. She shoved the gate open wider using her small frame as leverage to combat it descent into the soft ground. Each inch it moved only made it harder to push. She silently cursed whoever had made the crooked fence when she was only able to open it a foot or so further. The frei let out a dejected puff of air before she turned her now doleful eyes on her new human friend. "Please try coming in Miss Doucette."

The girl hurried inside her yard with a few hop-like bounds looking something akin to the white rabbit's lost sister. Her voice rung clear to Doucette, "I have tea for us!" The sentence was punctuated with a giggle. She approached a low table that matched her short stature. It was painted a feminine shade of pink and had a splattering of pastel green polka-dots over its surface. It was accompanied by two matching chairs. A white linen was draped over the furniture and atop that was a mix of mismatched dishes. However, they all had one thing in common. They appeared to have come from a children's play set. LuLu outstretched her arm as though the table was a grand ballroom she was presenting. The rabbit pulled out a seat for the woman before taking her own. Her petite fingers snatch a round dish from the table. A teacup was gingerly balanced on its circumference. It was the perfect scene of a princess serving her guest aside from the fact that there was nothing in the cups or on the plates. Nevertheless, LuLu brought the faux china to her lips and sipped at the imaginary beverage with a dreamy sigh. "It tastes amazing." Pleasantries aside, the raevan knew why Doucette was here though. Her excitement mounted as soon as she had caught a glimpse of the bag in the woman's grasp. She would be receiving her hat today. Perhaps she could even wear it during tea! She stared at her visitor expectantly.

The woman thought she aught to help the bunny girl with the gate but was reluctant to make any move to assist for fear the other girl would take the offer as a personal sign of weakness. Lulu had come off as a girl of strong character despite the fluttery princess exterior to Doucette and so the Irish woman simply smiled at the rabbit once the gate had been pushed aside enough for her to squeeze by. "Thank you very much Lulu," she responded politely, eyeing the gap and deciding just which angle would give her hips the least amount of difficulty to squeeze through. With a deep breath and a prayer than bacon grease wasn't going to be the only way through Doe took the plunge, hauling the bag behind her and letting out a gasp as she almost popped out the other side.

"Goodness," Doucette breathed with a hand on her chest, looking about the garden with interest and only the mildest sense of suspicion. The area was beautiful no doubt in its own way, and the little tea set off to the side added a degree of quaintness that was hard to come by these days. But the Irish woman had been under the impression that the use of the back gate was cause for secrecy. If she wasn't supposed to be here, should be be lounging about in the backyard sipping at tea?

Her will was crushed though at the exuberance Lulu displayed over the midday treat and with only a small amount of reluctance she settled herself in the seat across from the frei. A moment later and she realized that something was just simply not right, in fact, something was rather wrong. With a slow blink of her dark lashes Doe surveyed the scene and came to the conclusion that surely the poor child had been dropped on her head as a young thing. Unfamiliar with the fact that frei were indeed younger than they looked, the red head was instead sure that poor Lulu was completely off her rocker. That didn't mean Doucette didn't know how to play along however. After a short pause to gather her thoughts, and with a little brush of her fingers on her lap, she gently picked up the closest cup, pinkie out, and took a little sip of air. "This is delightful Lulu, what is it? Earl Gray?"

Looking up from her cup she noticed the rapt expression on Lulu's features and a smile grew upon her own. "I think I have it just right," she said of the hat, pulling the bag towards her and withdrawing the neat little thing so the girl could see it in its fullest. Doucette had gone so far as to tape things to her headbands in hopes and figuring out the right distance her ears were from each other and just how thick the holes had to be. Since taking actual measurements had slipped her mind that day she truly hoped her guesses would be acceptable for the frei. "Try it on," she urged, holding it out to her.

LuLu gave the woman a questioning quirk of her head. Her ears followed the motion with a curious bob. She took one more sip of air before she spoke in her usual soft tenor, "There are types of tea?" Indeed, most of the frei's functionality still was on a child's level. She may have developed the experience of an adolescent long ago along with her ability to talk, but she hid her maturity well behind the juvenile games she still loved to play. As for a tea party, the various types of tea had never been addressed. Tea was simply that. Tea. LuLu had not even experienced a real cup of tea in her lifetime nor did she know how to make one. Either way, the rabbit much preferred a fresh gulp of creativity with a side of carrot cake.

Violet eyes glimmered within her skull like lit embers at the mention of her hat. She excitedly set down her dish, the cup on top rattled. Her little lungs filled with air as she breathed in a joyful sigh. And there it was! Her hat was just centimeters away from her. The raevan did not need to be told twice. She snatched up the adornment and plopped it unceremoniously onto her awaiting scalp. LuLu's eyes grew wide at just how comfortable it felt atop her head. Her ears poked out perfectly like two antennae. They rotated back and forth as though independently gauging their range of movement. A pleased smile spread across her face, "It is just right. Thank you Miss Doucette." As an afterthought she added, "Do I look pretty?" The rabbit struck a small pose in her seat. One hand poised on the brim of her hat while the other pointed towards the sky in the shape of a gun.

Doucette blinked at the question, covering her perplexed expression with a wide smile and a flutter of her lashes in just moments. "Oh Lulu, you are missing out! There are so many types of tea!!" the woman gushed, setting her cup down with a soft clink and beginning to count off some of the top teas, starting with Earl Gray and ending with Green Tea only a few teas in. She didn't want to overwhelm the poor bunny after all!! "There's a tea for every mood. Soft, white peach tea for relaxing or a good strong black tea when you want to get moving!" Doucette picked up her glass once more and peered over the rim at Lulu with her big blue eyes while taking another little sip of air. Unfortunately, creativity was a meal the red head had to slave over, not something easily within reach like the raevan enjoyed.

"You know," Doucette started, "My friend Vivi owns a little cafe in town, not far from here. One day we could get some tea, maybe some cakes?" Red brows lofted to conspiratorial heights, her grin perhaps just a little too sharp for innocence. "That is, if it was ok with you...father? Mother?" What exactly did Lulu have? Stepping on toes had not been part of Doe's plans!

"Oh! Just let me get my camera!!!" Doucette said with delight at the sight of the hat fitting snugly upon those blonde locks. A triumph of design! She was so happy she could do such a favor for the girl. For a moment she ruffled about in her purse before pulling out her fingers in the shape of a little box, playing along with the quaint, imaginary afternoon they were having. Click! Doe's index fingers went down with the little noise from the side of her mouth before she lowered the camera and beamed with unrestrained enthusiasm. "It looks perfect, you look perfect. The most perfect, pretty cowgirl in the west!" Now all she needed was a good pair of boots...but apparently that would need to wait a while longer yet. Poor Lulu! Perhaps Doucette could somehow manage to be part of the first boot-buying experience the raevan had.

Doucette sent LuLu’s mind soaring. The rabbit’s cheeks flushed a few shades into they took on a rosy pink hue. She felt silly for not knowing about something so expansive. Not only were there types of teas, apparently, there were COUNTLESS varieties. The ravean looked down at her empty cup a bit dejectedly. According to Dou, there were seemingly endless possibilities and LuLu had not even experienced one yet. Trying real tea was instantly put on her “to-do” list.

LuLu questioned softly, “Café?” Her lavender eyes fluttered shut as she mulled over the word. It was almost familiar, as though she had heard it before in another passing conversation. She continued, “C-can I get real tea there? And carrot cake?” Her ears perked up at the thought which caused her hat to shift back a few degrees. However, the suede and leather held firm on her head as a testament to Dou’s tailoring.

The rabbit frei shrugged her shoulders and stated rather matter-of-factly, “I have neither. I have Josh.” She shifted in her seat and straightened out a crumpled edge of the table cloth. She had not given the thought of parents much consideration. However, the ravean knew that she did not consider Josh her father. He was simply Josh, perhaps an annoying older brother at best. “Oh, and Gram-Gram.” She smiled softly to herself. LuLu could never allow herself to forget the overenthusiastic woman.

LuLu tilted her head back curiosly as Dou fumbled with her “camera”. Nevertheless, once the ravean caught on to the woman’s imaginary play, the rabbit wore a large grin. She offered a few more poses for Doucette to capture before she felt satisfied. LuLu fluffed with pride at her companion’s admonishing words. She tipped the brim of her hat a bit lower with a soft giggle as she attempted to hide her blush, a bit a color still lingered from her previous embarrassment.

The girl's cheek's pinked with delight at having introduced the girl to a whole new world of opportunity of the real teas. Of course, imaginary tea had considerably more options than any number of real tea, but the possibilities were fairly endless from what you could put in a tea bag! "But of course! Vivi bakes the most delicious things. I am quite sure she has carrot cake on the menu. And if she doesn't, perhaps she will make some special just for you." Doucette was sure the French woman would not mind making up the delectable treat for the wonderful rabbit frei, and there had been plenty of real teas there the last time she'd visited so no problem there!

For a long moment Doucette wondered about the possibility of the hovering woman's ability to actually eat or drink anything, but the concern was brushed aside with a little mental wave. This Josh fellow and 'Gram-Gram' could concern themselves with that little trouble of food if needed. And besides, the girl must be sustaining herself somehow after all. As Lulu sounded neither here nor there on the subject of not having parents, Doe decided not to pry; it was not her business how the girl was cared for as long as she was indeed cared for and the smile for the woman showed that there was love there in some form.

As Doucette continued to capture frame after frame of the girl's new expression and each tilt of her hat and turn of her head, eventually sight of the setting sun was caught within her finger-frame and the Irish woman lowered her hands to her lap with a little frown. "I'm so sorry Lulu but it looks like I need to be going. The ferries run much less frequently after sundown and I have my own little ones to take care of." Picking herself up from her seat, Doe tipped the brim of an imaginary hat towards Lulu, "M'am," she said in her best old-western-movie accent before flashing a wide smile towards the girl, "It was a pleasure to see you again. Let's go have tea and carrot cake sometime soon, yes?"

LuLu donned a small pout when the woman declared that she had to leave. The frei tried to muster all the pity she could from the expression, but she knew it would be pointless to keep the woman there any longer. It would be dangerous for the human to travel at night and LuLu did not want that worry burdening her. Besides, the rabbit had her fun for the day and made numerous fond memories. It was about time to say goodbye to her new companion.

LuLu rose from her seat and tilted her hat. However, the motion soon melted into a demure curtsy, a gesture she was more familiar with. Her amethyst eye sparkled with energy as she replied, "Thank you so much Miss Dou. I had a wonderful time." The rabbit nodded firmly in agreement at Doucette's last words. Their next meeting could not come soon enough! LuLu would be waiting eagerly for their future tea and cake together. She would also get to meet this mysterious Vivi.

For now, she hovered close and sent Doucette off with a delicate hug around her waist. "Until we meet again."
