Ydda stared. And stared. And stared. Memories began to flash in her mind, memories she had long thought forgotten. Was he the young colt that came across her when she'd been hurt? Was he the young colt that helped her to her feet, pushed her on, and stayed with her until she healed?
Was he the young colt she had thought would stand by her during her darkest hours only to be abandoned again? The nostalgia in her eyes had disappeared, replaced by a quiet, seething rage. "Hello there," she greeted. "I never expected to run into you again."

Ryuhei took another deep gulp of water, relished the cool sensation of it running down his throat. He seemed to be ignoring the mare, as he does everyone else in the small camp. But he faced her when he raised his head, and looked back with disinterested eyes.
"Do I know you?" he asked. His tone was even, and did nothing to betray the truth that he did remember her.

Ydda's gray eyes widened and they flashed in rage. But she forced a smile to lips and kept her voice meek when she apologized, "Oh, sorry, I must have mistaken you for someone I knew."
All the while she mentally fumed I meant so little to him that he doesn't even remember me?! As she mulled over this thought, her heart sank.
She swallowed her anger and sadness when she asked "Do you live here as well?"

Ryuhei continued to stare at her blankly. After what seemed like an eternity of awkward silence, he responded with a simple "Maybe."
He wasn't going to voluntarily expound on that. Whether he would even elaborate at all would depend on what else the mare would ask him. Even if he was pretending he didn't remember her, he still felt like he owed her an answer. It was simply going to be given in a roundabout method.

She cocked her head at him, What does he mean by maybe? Is he just here temporarily? Does Kree even know he's around?
Confused and suspicious of his motives, Ydda simply turned her back on him and fervently wished Kree would return soon. She hadn't been looking for Ryuhei after all. She'd long given up hope of ever finding him. Or her adoptive mother but Ydda decided to ponder on one issue at a time.
"I see. Will you be here long?"

"She's right this way," Kree declared as she led her adoptive father towards the watering hole. "She looks real tired and I think she could use a few days worth of rest. Can she stay? Can she? Please?" she begged. It was not out of a genuine desire to be charitable on Kree's part. Kree only did things she thought would be interesting or fun. Never mind how this affected other Soquilis.
Isiah had really spoiled the mare when she was still a fillly and it was showing.

 Isiah had to admit to being a little suspicious of Kredoe and her motives. But he was pleased that she was showing some concern for others. And not in the how-will-they-react-if-I-do-this way that he has always seen her treat others. He had little trouble in keeping up with the young mare who he still saw as a filly until they got to the watering hole.
And it was there he saw the mare Kredoe said was named Ydda. He also saw Ydda had her back turned to Ryuhei! Red eyes widened as he suddenly charged ahead of Kree to stand between the new comer and the other stallion.
"I hope you weren't planning on acting out, Ryuhei."

Before Ryuhei could answer Ydda's question, the annoying mare and her equally annoying father-figure arrived and stuck their muzzles in where they didn't belong. He frowned and narrowed his black eyes at them. Especially at Isiah when the other stallion spoke his name.
Well, he was sure that whatever doubt Ydda still had on his identity would be gone now. "I only act out when the situation calls for it," he snorts, his tone audibly cold.

Ydda was startled by the arrival of Kredo and Isiah. Even more so when the other stallion suddenly ran up to them and acted as something of a shield. Why would he have to do something like that?
And then she heard him say the name. Her heart skipped a beat. It really was him, then. Gray eyes studied Ryuhei as the mare steeled herself and walked out from behind Isiah. She ignored the words of warning that had begun to emerge from the metal-clad stallion and asked "You don't remember me, do you?"

Kree's eyes widened. Not in horror or shock but in delight. She could barely keep the smile from her lips when she ran towards the cluster at the watering hole. "What a small world this is! Who would have known our own Ryuhei knows Ydda here! Small, small world! Does this mean you're going to stay with us now, Ydda?"
Kredoe wasn't unobservant, nor was she stupid. She had seen the forlorn way the other mare had looked at the stallion and the way Ryuhei seemed to be avoiding her gaze. Obviously Ydda wasn't going to want to stay but she could always strong-arm the other mare into doing what she wanted. Kree would find a way.

Isiah saw that look in his adopted daughter's eye. And he did not like it. He knew it meant she was going to try to get them all involved in some mischief or trouble. "Hold on, hold on, Kree! Let's not jump to conclusions here," he turned to the other mare, "Ydda, was it? Do you know him? And you," he frowned at Ryuhei, "Had better answer our questions rather than just walking away like usual."

Ryuhei glared at Isiah. It didn't matter if the other stallion was bigger than him, he had always hated being ordered around and he was not inclined to change his opinion on the matter. "Or else what? You'll attack again?" he sneered in defiance. "And over what? My decision to say nothing? Just admit it, Isiah, you're spoiling for a fight."

Ydda just gawked, horrified and frightened, at the scene unfolding before her. She had never known Ryuhei to be antagonistic. Well, not this antagonistic. And why was Isiah acting so hostile? Was this her fault?
The mare looked helplessly at the two stallions before weakly speaking "I, I obviously must have done something wrong. Please don't fight." She turned to Kredoe, gray eyes begging the other mare to help her handle the conflict.

Kredoe mimicked Ydda's expression but not for the same reasons. Ydda can't leave! Not after all this fun that she's inadvertently caused! Even if she would very, very, very much like to see how Isiah would fare against Ryuhei, it was going to make the source of all this entertainment leave! And Kree couldn't have that.
She shook her head at Ydda, "No, they're always like this. It's not your fault."
Kree hoped Ydda wouldn't be able to tell she was lying through her teeth. "I'll handle this, just stay put, okay?"

Isiah's lips curled into a snarl. Ryuhei was already on thin ice after attacking Kree. But now the other stallion was intentionally provoking him and as friendly and forgiving as Isiah is, he had his limits.
"I held back last time. Don't think you'll be-" Isiah's eyes widened as Kree got in between them. "Kree, move your tail out of the way!" He ordered sharply.
