euphoric Saturday, May 8, 2004 Journal, I do believe that this will stand as my first update. I have been in a bit of a state ever since I learned that I will become one of the lucky five whom Rasu selected to care for an Ieldi. I am immensely excited and a little apprehensive at the same time. These past days have consisted of countless runs to various shops, trying to locate the perfect lures and other trinkets that might aid in decorating my shelf. Speaking of shelves, Rasu officially announced that we may choose which we would like. I have selected mine, of course, though picking was a difficult task, I will admit. There were so many to choose from! I am currently in the beginning stages of decorating it, but I thought that taking a moment to record my progress in my journal might be a smart move. Searching for lures is a harder undertaking than I had originally thought it would be. So far, I have found a few gems and a butterfly, but I am still searching, of course. If I do not find what I have in mind, I always have the option of making whatever I need. I will have to update this more thoroughly when I get a free moment. Right now, I think that I am going to go browse the stores again and see if I cannot come across some more items of use, as well as finish my preparations. Until later, Euph

euphoric Sunday, May 9, 2004 Journal, I am finally beginning to make some progress when it comes to decorating the shelf. However, I have not been able to get much done, as I am not entirely sure where the nest relic will go and how much space it will occupy. Therefore, some of the items which I have purchased will undoubtedly have to be rearranged and adjusted appropriately, but I will worry about that when the time comes. I am still having a bit of trouble finding everything that I need, so I have resorted to simply making what I have in mind. So far, I have fashioned a bead curtain to hang up, though I have yet to decide where I should place it. It feels like there is so much left to do, but I suppose that I have finished up with most of the major things. I have ordered a few items that I will probably be picking up soon, so that should add to my limited collection of lures and treasures. In addition to that, I recently discovered two jars containing little, floating dragons, items that I bought months ago. They will come in handy in my preparations, I am sure. Until I write again, Euph

euphoric Saturday, May 15, 2004 Journal, I do not think that things could get any more hectic. I disappeared for a few days, and so much has happened during my absence! I recently went and picked up my relic from the headquarters, might I add. It is so very beautiful. For ages, I could not seem to stop staring at it. I have finished fixing up my shelf and picked up the rest of the things that I had ordered. I received two gifts for my future Ieldi, as well! I am heaving a sigh of relief that most of my decorating is completed. Now, I have just been spending most of my time on my shelf, waiting for a curious visitor. Speaking of which, the most amazing thing happened last night! I could have sworn that I saw the faintest glimmer of color hovering about my relic! I can still see it at times, in fact, floating silently about. I literally held my breath upon first spotting it and have been carefully avoiding any sudden movements ever since. I am being as cautious as I can, as I would truly love to befriend this spirit. More later, Euph

euphoric Sunday, May 16, 2004 Journal, I think that this visiting spirit is still very, very hesitant. It has seemed bent upon staying as far from me as it can at this point, which is perfectly fine, of course. I am more than willing to give it as much time as it needs to warm up to me. I have not moved from my quiet corner of the shelf since the spirit's arrival. I made sure to stick to the only part of the shelf that has no decorations or lures, as I want this spirit to be able to investigate all of the items without having to fear coming too close to me. I have, however, made sure to keep a very friendly, open air as it explores the various trinkets about the shelf and relic. That way, should it feel brave enough to approach me, I do not seem scary or threatening. I am trying my hardest to wordlessly let this visitor know that I am completely harmless and truly want to befriend it. In the meantime, however, I am also trying to remain as motionless as possible. I'm afraid that even the slightest of movements will startle the poor thing. Until next time, Euph

euphoric She sat in complete silence, silver eyes resting wordlessly upon the spirit as it floated curiously about. To her immense relief, it had seemed to grow a bit more bold, even playful, as it passed the various trinkets that adorned the shelf. It appeared to be especially thrilled with the hanging beads, though it may not have been the beads so much as it was the noise that they made when the spirit rushed purposely past them. After some time of watching the spirit and staying silent and still, she decided to make her first move. It was a slow, cautious scoot forward, nothing more. The spirit did not miss a beat, however, and she held her breath as the colorful presence turned her way, suddenly still and wary. However, she did feel encouraged by the fact that it had not immediately bolted, and she worked up the courage to speak to it in what she hoped was a soothing, gentle tone. "Hello, there. There is no reason to fear me, I assure you; I mean you no harm." The spirit remained very still for a moment, but it finally turned back to the goodies that were to be found in every nook and cranny the shelf contained. She smiled, meanwhile, happy that it seemed interested and relaxed enough to stay, even despite her presence. Encouraged now, she continued to speak to it. Whenever it passed an item that the shelf contained, she would simply say a few things about that item. It seemed content enough with this for awhile, but it grew somewhat bored and returned to rushing back and forth past the hanging beads, seemingly enthralled with the musical tones they made. She contemplated the four gems that lay nearby, items which she had purchased to lure a spirit. However, seeing that this colorful one seemed to take an amusement in musical entertainment as opposed to simply observing pretty objects at random, the gems ceased to be mere decorations and became musical instruments. It was a daring move, really. Should she try it? In the end, curiousity and hopeful wishing won out, and she carefully gathered the gems up, before shaking them in her cupped palms a bit, moving the trinkets to the same rhythm that the beads swished and sang. The jewels delicately clinked together, accentuating the music that her visitor had successfully made it on its own. Speaking of the spirit, it paused in its carefree fun and turned her way again, though thankfully, a genuine wonder had seemed to replace most of its prior wariness. "I know a little bit about music myself," the teenager explained softly, a shy and encouraging smile beginning to bloom upon her young face. The spirit seemed pleased enough with this explanation and went back to its own music, while she hopefully continued on with shaking the gems in her hands, pleased to have found something that she could share with the spirit.

euphoric When I woke up, the first thing that I noticed was that the spirit was hovering expectantly nearby. The remarkable thing about my discovery was the fact that this was probably the closest the spirit had ever gotten to me, close enough so that I could reach out and touch it, had I wanted. Instead, however, I greeted my colorful friend with a warm smile, slowly stretching my arms over my head as I spoke to it. "Good morning. How are you today?" My movements no longer seemed to startle it into hiding, and it flipped about a bit in the air, possibly in an effort to respond to my question. "Are you ready for another game?" This question could not have been met with more enthusiasm as the spirit bobbed gleefully up and down in the air. "Well, I have an idea. There are a lot of items on this shelf, so why don't I tell you a few clues about one of them? You guess which it is, and indicate the item to me." The idea was met with further excitement. We played this game for awhile, but as I had learned with my earlier exploits, this spirit was one who tended to bore easily. Therefore, we switched between the guessing game and hide and seek. As we played, I told it a little more about myself, and it actually seemed rather interested in learning about me. I decided to try letting the spirit be in charge of the games for once and offered to play the guessing game with it, only I would have to guess the item that it seemed to indicate. This idea may have been met with the most enthusiasm yet. Perhaps this spirit likes to be the leader of the fun at times. I had wondered how I would go about doing this. After all, the spirit could not speak, obviously, so I would have to be extremely attentive to the clues it would give me. To tell you the truth, though, I need not have worried. Most of the time, I could easily tell what my little friend meant. For example, once, it drifted up high and fluttered in the air a bit, extending itself as much as it could so that it almost looked as though beams of light were extending from it. This, of course, illustrated the sunlight potion. Whenever I guessed correctly, the spirit seemed at its absolute happiest. I am still wondering what other things I can do to get it to further trust me, though it seems as though most of the big barriers have been broken down. I suppose only time will tell if the spirit has become comfortable enough with me to actually enter the relic someday.

euphoric When she awoke, she expected to be greeted by her happy, fluttering spirit, perhaps hovering even nearer to her now than it had on their previous venture. However, as she slowly sat up, rubbing sleep from her eyes, her stomach dropped. The spirit was not to be found. She suddenly realized that she was very much alone. Was she? She spotted a small, dulled flicker of color from behind the bottle of starlight potion, and she hesitantly crept forward. She need not have approached so cautiously, as the newly found spirit seemed not to be in a mood to flee. Then again, it did not seem to be in the mood for much else, either. Its colors, normally bright, vibrant, and glittering, were noticably duller, as though shades of gray had been mixed with each and every previously dazzling hue. If she had to guess, the spirit was either angry, depressed, or a mixture of the two. Its carriage seemed noticably sullen, and she frowned as she kneeled beside her friend. She said nothing. The spirit was definitely in a dark mood, but it did not shy away from her. Its depression was not connected to her, but she was worried, all the same. How does one communicate to another that he or she is supportive, here should the friend need company? Some things are said better when words are not involved. Without a sound, she reached up, taking down the hanging beads from their post and bringing them down to eye level. Making sure that the spirit was paying attention, she traced a single finger delicately across the beads. The soft tune they made as they lightly brushed across one another was sad and sweet, a note of assurance that needed no words, a hug that needed no arms. The spirit turned her way, and before her eyes, the color began to return, spreading across its small, translucent form. It flitted up into the air, all traces of its sadness gone, and zipped about the beads, creating a happy melody of assent, a song of friendship. Were it able to smile, she was quite sure it would have an enormous grin on its face about now.

euphoric Another day had come and gone since the spirit's depression, and there was truly no evidence that such had ever occurred. Even now, it was fluttering happily about, enjoying games and music. When she had first attempted to move their games nearer the relic, the spirit seemed mildly offended, as close friends might behave when one chooses to mention an event distinctly disliked by the other. However, the spirit was becoming increasingly comfortable with what it had previously rebuked, and she now found it often hovering quite near the entrance. Many moments of breathless waiting had passed, and the spirit always seemed to travel ever closer before pulling away again, almost teasingly. However, even it could not seem to hide the distinct interest it had in the relic, and more often, she now found it hovering there without her encouragement. She just kept her fingers crossed that the moment when the spirit would give to her the last bit of trust that it was still clinging to would come as quickly as possible.

euphoric Tuesday, June 15, 2004 Journal, I think that the spirit is no longer afraid of or offended by the relic. Lately, it has become surprisingly daring, coasting up to the very entrance and examining the inside. I am very anxious to see whether or not my friend will choose to take that last step of faith, so to speak. I am willing to wait as long as it takes. Even as I watch it curiously float about the relic at this very moment, I cannot shake the giddy feeling that my wait will not be much longer. Could it be? More soon, Euph

euphoric Things had been continuing on in their usual fashion. She found herself devoting more and more of her time to the spirit, avoiding other things in favor of getting to spend a few more hours about the shelf. Incidentally, she found herself perusing over books of names, wondering what she would call her spirit if it chose to venture into the relic someday. She did not want to overstep any boundaries, and she especially did not wish to somehow bring about an unlucky spell by trying to decide on a name when the spirit had not yet entered the relic. There was still that chance that it would simply leave one day, a thought that she found quite unbearable. However, it seemed rather content for now, and she ultimately decided that she need not worry, so long as she tried her hardest to keep from offending it. Somehow, common names did not seem the least bit suitable. As she was tapping a pen against her chin in thought, she watched the spirit dance about the shelf, now amusing itself by seemingly bouncing up and down on a stuffed animal. Realistically speaking, it was simply propelling itself into the air and floating back again, but the fact that it was using the toy as a makeshift trampoline amused her greatly. She grinned a bit. The spirit had always been one that seemed full of life, amusement, and games, and that one day when she had seen it in a vulnerable moment only made it seem that much more real. She sighed a bit, trying to think of whom the spirit reminded her of. As she closed her eyes, she could see him. She could see his face as though he was standing before her again. He always seemed to be happy, but he, too, had his fair share of pain. He had always been there for her, but where was he now? She heaved a heavy sigh, remembering all of it, right up to his rather odd nickname. Perhaps that nickname could become something more. She pursed her lips in though for a moment, before scrambling to pick up her journal. In it, she jotted down a few letters, a moniker known only to her, "Kiku." She stared at what she had written. Not only did it remind her a bit too much of her fallen friend, but it still seemed too simple. Sometimes, however, the smallest of additions can work wonders. After chewing lightly upon the tip of her pen, she hastily scribbled two letters after the original contribution. She stared at the result, and then made an effort to sound out what she had noted. She practiced, before finally deciding upon a suitable way to say it. "Kikuei," she mumbled beneath her breath.

euphoric Sunday, June 27, 2004 Journal, I believe that I may have finally found a suitable name for the spirit, if he does eventually decide to take that final step in entering the relic. Right now, I am extremely confused. Should I tell the spirit the name I have selected for him? If you have not noticed, I have started to refer to the spirit as a male. It just seems right; I honestly cannot imagine it as a female, though I could end up being quite surprised. I should stop going off on tangents. Anyway, I am afraid that by letting the spirit know that I have gone so far as to pick a name out for him, I may offend him into actually leaving. As comfortable and happy as he now seems around me, I still feel as though I have reason to fear. What if he simply loses interest? What if he is offended by the name I have chosen? I suppose that I will just keep it to myself, at least until a more opportune moment arrives. Perhaps I am just being paranoid. Until next time, Euph
