What would he say in this time had a voice? He would probably remain stoic and silent as he was so very good at doing anyway. He felt for the poor fox. He was also in the unfortunate predicament of being a strange creature as well. However, he had learned to adjust and except the misfortune, despite how much he had to give up in order to do it.

He reached out with a gloved paw and gently patted her shoulder, telling her in his own and only way that somehow things would turn out

Folding her ears back, a ragged breath left her lips as her eyes opened gently to gaze at the ground. The kind pat on her shoulder calmed her more than he'd ever know that at least someone was there. Even if he was like her and a deadly ninja from the looks of it....it was good enough for her.

"Thank you Snake...I owe you my life." She shifted and sat up, surveying the black muck on her body and grimaced, wiping her eyes with her wrist since it was the only clean part of her arms.

"Listen....are you doing anything? Mind if I hang out with you for a while....I really don't want to go home right now..."

He mustered a single nod. Why was he tired all of the sudden? Usually he could go on for days on end before feeling fatigue. He shrugged it off and looked to his once shiny blade. It too was covered in the same nasty guck that was plaguing the vixen. Scowling at this stuff, he pulled a kerchief from a side pocket on his left pant leg. He used it to try and get the stuff off, but to no avail. He was further perplexed by the fact that the piece of cloth was actually leaving some dark residue behind. He stared at the dark liquid like substance trying to figure out what it was, but the dark forest was not helping him identify it.

Knowing he had better use for a flashlight, he shrugged that off to and pocketed the kerchief and leaned over to the stream, hoping the clean flowing water would rid of whatever was on his blade

Smiling to herself she let out a long breath, finally feeling her nerves return to normal with the light of the flashlight illuminating the area. Tilting her head she watched him try and clean his sword, yet it didn't surprise her that Hoshi's essence wasn't coming off.

"Its pure demonic essence....it may look like tar or something like that.....but hot water or purified water will take that off. I have to get it out of the carpets all the time...." A sheepish look crawled over her face as she gave a halfhearted chuckle, not even bothering to try and remove what was on her. "We could try and get back to the shop? They have hot showers and such to clean your blade...."

Heck, anywhere was better to get out of these woods and into more reliable light for Hoshi to steer clear from. At least there were other foxes at the shop too.

He looked up and listened. Every now and then his eyes would trail back to the black stuff on the blade, but his eyes returned back to her.

After she was done, he nodded and stabbed the blade into the ground to support his weight while he stood. Something didn't feel right. He looked at his left leg to make sure it was in fact on the ground, and so it was. Though he was momentarily perplexed, he shrugged it off once again and stood, waiting for her to follow suit. He shined the flashlight around them one last time to ensure nothing was hiding in the dark

Wasting no time in staying there she jumped to her feet, feeling the stiffness and weight of the black gunk restrict her fur. No matter, a hot shower would fix that soon; and already a goofy face stretched on her face just thinking about it.

Perking her ears though as she noticed his odd way of getting up, tilting her head as she wondered if she should say anything...but figured to keep it to herself for the time being. Striding up to his side, she made sure to keep close as they began their way back towards the shop.

"Have you been out here long, Snake?"

He took a moment to think about the question as he took a step forward. Suddenly that leg came back to life and it didn't feel too great. He winced as red hot pain shot up and down what felt like his entire body, but he continued to follow through with his step, making sure now to use his sword more of a support now than just a walking stick. He'd felt worse than this, and figured he'd just tough it through. No use of gripping over a bum leg. But there was still a question he had to answer.

He tilted his head, but not in confusion but more so in thought. He had forgotten how long he had actually been there so he had to count out the months. He was certain it hadn't been a year yet.

After finishing his step he had to use the sword a little bit more to support his weight. Must have broken from the fall. Ah well..nothing to worry about. Just more reason to take it easy I guess he wasn't happy about thinking about relaxing, but he needed it. Then he slapped himself out of that thought and tried again to answer. He counted down the months from when he arrived in Late December. Finally he nodded and held up five fingers, hoping she would realize they were months and nothing else

A soft frown settled on the vixen's brow as she watched her companion walk along, it wouldn't have seemed like much but considering not long ago he was leaping on the counters and had swiftly gotten to her side when Hoshi turned....it was increasingly worry some to see him use his sword more like a walking stick than anything.

She might not have been a sword expert but that couldn't be good for the blade.

"Five....months? or years?" She inquired when he'd held up his fingers, stepping over an uplifted root as they finally reached the path once more. "Have you found someone special? I've noticed that kind of thing happens fairly fast around here from the amount of work I have..." A smile broke on her lips as she chuckled, she supposed that was a good thing, since it kept her mind from straying to more depressing matters.

Snake Eyes paused at the exposed root and carefully maneuvered his way over it. He was very glad he had actually still decided to continue carrying his sword despite never really needing to use it. As he managed to get over the roots, he tried to keep his mind off of the burden and answered the vixen's question by holding up one finger, hoping she knew he was referring to her first suggestion of five months, not years.

He was glad to be on a smoother path, and a marked one at that. He noticed that his vision was starting to blurr, but he didn't want to even think of what would happen if he fell again.

Kay's question did catch him off guard. He took a moment to stop and look at her. He wasn't trying to be rude, but his mind quickly flashed to those he left behind, including one he had loved, but she had stopped loving him for some reason. When his mind finally came back to reality, he started his pace again, now limping a bit more than he wanted to, but he shook his head in response of her question

"Months hmm? At least it hasn't been years, I don't think I could imagine..." With her tail swaying softly from side to side, her eyes continued on the path ahead yet she kept looking back to make sure that Snake was keeping up. Last thing she wanted was to leave him behind....and he was the one with the flashlight.

However, a sinking feeling rose when she stopped hearing pawsteps and turned to see what the hold up was.

The way he stood silently looking at her was all she needed to know she'd asked the wrong question. Guilt swelled in her chest as her gaze cast down, not even needing to see him shake his head since she already knew. She waited for him to pass before finally moving along the trail as well, slower than before.

"I'm sorry, Snake...." She spoke softly, that is until she could see the visible limp in his step. "...Are you alright? You...have a limp?

He dejectedly waved a paw. Last thing he needed was someone to worry about him of all people. Besides the shop was within sight now. He could see the clearing. Even if he couldn't stand, he'd be all for crawling on the ground, despite how weak and worthless it may have made him look

As they reached the edge of the woods, and the moon light made the changed landscape appear to be more like day, he decided there was no use for the flashlight, so he turned it off and pocketed it. But still, one thing was left he had to wonder. What the heck was that thing?

He looked back to her to see if she would care to fill him in, assuming she got the hint

Biting her lip she didn't like the fast she was being dismissed not to worry about it, but of course she worried about it. Keeping close just in case despite he'd probably not like her helping him she figured it wouldn't hurt to be prepared. Reaching the moonlight meadow like opening to the shop she breathed a sigh of relief and quickly scooted into the moonlight.

Blinking for a moment she tilted her head, wondering what that questioning look was about. Then it hit her.

"Hoshi? He's a Shadow demon, kind of like a Cheshire cat. I found his star that he usually always carries around and he spawned from it....he's such a carefree noodle, a little mischevious but never...." she paused, looking a little shaken as she glanced to the shop. "....never has he tried to hurt anyone like that."

He stopped for a moment, really starting feel the fatigue, but continued onward just a second or 2 later. He was starting to look forward to a couch or chair. He didn't care if he died there, so long as he got to sit or lie down before hand he would be happy. He managed to tune in his hearing to her explanation

Odd if he never attacked before then why now? Well he is a shadow demon. Maybe the darkness brings the crazy in him he thought as he brought one paw up to hold his rub his chin for a moment in thought. It was something that didn't make a lot of sense to him, but having no experience with the demon before, he was at a disadvantage for placing a possible answer

"Mmmm....it is odd. Anyways, lets get going...." She motioned for him to follow and kept moving up towards the shop, glad to be so close to a familliar place. A shower was looking heavenly right now, although she was concerned on how she would be getting home now from her late nights.

Reaching the shop she took the final few steps to the door and the safety of the porch light, opening the door to the warm atmosphere of the shop.

Looking back to Snake, she smiled, hoping he would have no trouble.

It was more of a welcoming moment to step foot back on a hard floor. He paced through the door way and grabbed a counter. The sword would do him no good, so he carefully laid it flat on the surface, taking time to analyze the black substance and the residue from his kerchief.

The black substance was questioning to him. He poked some of the stuff to find it was very sticky. He looked over to Kay for a moment to see if she was eventually going to fill him in on exactly what the gunk was. He stared off into the middle distance for a moment, remembering how much something like this would have been valued for it's information. He thought of course of all his old family for a moment before shaking it off and examining the once dark residue. It came to no surprise that it turned out to be blood, though it was dry, he could still identify it
