I have had good results with basil in pots starting from seed.
I really like the white flowers that basil has and you can eat them you know.
But if you are harvesting basil to eat and use on food the basil tastes better before it gets flowers after words it doesn't taste as good.
So you want to trim the top of the plant if it looks like its going to grow flowers then you trim the top so it can keep the tasty leaves longer.
But if it gets away from you like I said the flowers are edible and they do smell really good. ^_^

Basil is good for making pesto you put the leaves in a food processor and mix it with any seasoning you like. Then you put it in a ziplock into the freezer. It lasts longer this way and if your cooking you can just break off a bit of it and add it to your pan. 3nodding

And if you decide to grow things outside of a pot or if you have some large pots you could grow some tomatoes and when you grow basil, Oregon and parsley next to tomatoes it makes the tomatoes more tasty and helps keep some bugs away from eating the tomatoes.
But if your growing vegetables in pots you want to be sure that you use some vegetable potting soil and not just dirt from the yard and certainly so if you haven't tested it be sure its a good it has a good ph level for growing tomatoes.
Good luck with wink
