"She certainly couldn't have been worse!" Gabbie laughed, feeling some tension drain away. "Gabrielle, though I prefer Gabbie. And I'm a junior at Meadowview. And I think she was too."
Another sigh and she leaned back and watched the ceiling for a moment. Then turning her head, she thought of something.
"Your friend. The ink guy. Is he okay?"

Cordelia drew back again, flopping into the chair she had been sitting in before as though it were the most comfortable chair she'd ever sat in (or at least like she was determined to make it so). She smoothed her skirt again before leaning against one of the arms, a soft smile curving the corners of her mouth at the other girl's question.
"Erik... Oddy..." She laughed, shaking her head slowly. "He's... Okay. Hanging in there, at least. He was just really tired; drained out. There's this silly thing I've been invited to that I'm going to try and drag him to if I can. It's strange trying to get the hang of... Well... Running into people from work outside of work, I guess."

"I can imagine," she laughed softly, thinking of the night she'd carried Khalla to the hospital. "I usually need some weird ice breaker for stuff like that. And that ice breaker sadly seems to be this place."
She reached out a hand and patted Cordelia's.
"But since it's managed to get me in touch with one more person who really gets it, I'm hardly going to complain."

"This is... One of those things that.... Oh, hell." She huffed, displaying a bit of spunk before glancing up, eyes wide and face slightly flushed. "I'm sorry. It's just one of those things that my parents are insisting I attend because they received the invitation before I did. Four months ago I would have been thrilled to receive an invitation to a ball. Now? Knowing what's really going on out there?"
Cordelia shook her head, leaning back against the chair once more. "I bet he would look really charming in a tuxedo, though. As long as he doesn't pick out an outlandish vest..." Knowing him, he would, but that was part of being a teenager still, wasn't it?
"Odd how things work out like that, isn't it? It's not like we can sign up for a social networking site to pair us up with team mates who are like minded... Just imagine what the sorting test would be like."

"If there was a sorting test, it would be made up of one very grumpy cat asking things like, 'How do you feel about monsters? Do you think Twilight is a work of pure genius?'"
She considered what Cordelia had said and grinned. Balls, she thought, if done right could be a lot of fun. But that was if they were done right.
"What kind of ball? And I think one night to go have a little fun would be all right. There're so many of us that I think it would be all right."

"I'm sure, just to spite me, she would put in 'How do you feel about working with the Goddamn Batman'." She snorted softly, rolling her eyes before returning to what might possibly be the more appropriate topic for 'girls their age' to discuss, at least should anyone walk in.
"A debutant ball that's masquerading as a charity event; held for one of the older girls at Crystal. Everyone who's everyone received an invitation..." Cordelia rolled her eyes again, trying hard not to sigh. "I'm sure it could be fun, but..." But she had been one of those girls. She had lived that life, was still considered to be living it by those who weren't questioning her odd new habits and friends. Those girls were mean and they were usually capable of eating people alive.
"... Oddy could probably hold his own amongst them. It might not be a bad idea."

A sudden itch under the cast sent Gabbie into a momentary frenzy of thumping on the fiberglass just above the itchy spot. Once the sensation had faded, she turned a sheepish grin tot he other girl.
"I think you should go and take him. I can't say it sounds like my own idea of a fun ball, but everyone's got different tastes. I do like looking at dresses for stuff like that, though."
Amber eyes took on a dreamy look as she thought of the fun she'd had shopping for a prom dress. SOmetimes, just trying on the fancy stuff was fun too.
"Yes. You should go. And take pictures. I want to see pictures."
Gabbie grinned at Cordelia. She had a feeling that this girl could put most people to shame if she decided to dress up and play the rich kid games.

"I love looking at dresses, and shopping for dresses... Shopping in general, but..." There was a time and place for everything, although deep down she had a feeling that Gabbie was right. "I told him that if I decided to go he had to come with me, so we'll see. I still have a bit of time to RSVP."
At the mention of time she sighed, glancing down at the silver charm bracelet that she wore on her left wrist, turning it so that she could see the one charm with a clock face. "... Speaking of time. My mother is going to worry if I don't check in and let her know how Demetri's doing. If I give you my number you'll call sometime? Maybe we can have a shopping date, or even a patrol date once you're out of your cast. I think I've been spending too much time with the boys anyways..."

"Yes!" Gabbie pounced eagerly on the offer. "I'll call and we can go do girly things. Or patrol. Either's good."
From the almost puppy-like happiness rolling off of Gabbie in near palpable waves, it was clear that she was lonely and happy just to have someone to talk to. And the thought of future hanging out was enough to keep her from going crazy as she lay in the hospital bed.
"Though I think shopping might be a better idea at first since it's going to be another month or so until this stupid thing can come off. "

"I'll swing by again the next time I come to visit Demetri." She nodded, smiling as she stood before stooping down to grab her back so that she could swing it back over her shoulder. "If you're still here, that is... Hopefully you won't be. We'll be in touch, though." Her smile brightened as she nodded once more, actually meaning it when she said that, instead of filling it with the hollow promise of a shallow girl.
Cordelia paused once she reached the doorway, glancing back over her shoulder. "We'll make it through all of this. Somehow." Then she turned again, heading quickly out into the hall so that she could make her way back down to the car that would be waiting to take her back to Crystal Academy.

Gabbie nodded and waved as Cordelia took her leave.
"Of course we will," Gabbie answered softly. "Thank you, Cordy."
Once the other girl was gone, Gabbie snuggled back into her bed and thought. She doubted that she'd be here next time, but she had a phone number now. Once she was out of here and settled back at home, she'd give Cordy a call. And she realized her new friend was right. They'd make it though.
