Edmund tilted his head and listened quietly as she talked about the stars. He couldn't help but frown a little at the parts about Andy and Aiden being sad and not being able to find their other half easily. He frowned even more at the bit about Mira having to risk her life. Without thinking about it he reached out and laid his hand on Mira's. "I don't want Andy or Aiden to be sad...and I don't want anything to happen to you either..." Edmund watched her frown and wondered if these things made her sad too and his hand tightened a little around hers. "What kinds of things doesn't everyone understand?" He wondered if maybe Mira explained it to him he would.
Edmund's eyes looked over her searchingly and he thought that she looked sad. "Do these things make you sad?" He watched her earnestly, his dearest wish being to understand Mira better. "You...ah.. you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, I'm just trying to understand." The last thing he wanted was for Mira to feel like he was being nosy.

Mira blinked lightly as Edmund grabbed her hand, her heart fluttered once again and she looked away for a moment, almost ashamed as though she'd be scolded for thinking negatively against the stars. She managed to muster the courage to continue talking, she wanted to answer, and despite the stars, she was determined to do so.
"Mira doesn't want them to be sad, but there's nothing that can be done. She knows they will never listen to reason. And Mira doesn't want anything to happen to her, but if she does nothing, Mira's friends will die." she seemed to be protesting now, as though forcing herself to continue on, as if something was trying to hold her back. "This makes Mira sad, she doesn't want to-..... she doesn't-..." she paused, still trying her hardest to confess what she really wanted to say. "Mira doesn't want to follow the stars." she finally spoke in almost a complete whisper, hanging her head slightly, becoming a bit exhausted from trying to fight whatever was stopping her from speaking her mind.
"They don't want Mira to disobey them. She has to do what she's told, or they'll do bad things to her." she admitted, as she buried her face into her hands. "No one understands... that Mira is a slave to the stars... Everyone goes about their business and never realizes the stars are watching them. They control everything and everyone. There is no escape from them. Mira doesn't think there's anyone that can save-.." her rambling had been cut off as she suddenly began to cough badly, trying desperately to breathe. It was hard, her chest hurt, and the coughing didn't seem to stop for a good while. And the whole time, she held on tight to Edmund's hand, too scare to let go.

Edmund listened quietly and patiently as Mira said all the things she wanted to say. His brow furrowed with worry about how Mira was seemingly being prevented from saying what she wanted to say. Were the stars really so powerful? Edmund's eyes widened in fear as Mira had her coughing fit and as she held tightly to his hand, he squeezed back. He didn't know what else to do for her except for hold her hand. After hearing what Mira had said before he couldn't help but wonder if it was the stars punishing her for speaking against them. Once Mira finally started to be able to breathe again. "Do you need water?" he gave her hand another squeeze as he asked.

Mira breathed deeply, recovering from her coughing fit as she leaned back in the bed, resting her head back as she sighed lightly. She heard him off to get water for her and she frown a bit. "..p-please don't leave.." she begged softly as she held tight to his hand. She didn't want to be alone. Mira knew that the stars could have done worse, and probably would have if Edmund had not been there. She was scared, and didn't want him to get up or leave her side. Mira stared downward as though staring at the floor for a while. She felt bad that she was defying the stars, but she just couldn't stand to be controlled anymore. She wanted her own freedom from them, and she could never find a way to get away from them. They would never let her, and Mira knew it.

Edmund turned and settled back into his seat. "Ok, I won't leave. I promise." If Mira wanted him to stay by her side, that was certainly what he would do. He took her hand again, more shyly then the first time as he was more conscious that he was doing it.
Edmund fell quiet again while he tried to pull his thoughts together. "There's no way around it? There...has to be some way?" Edmund wasn't really sure. What he was sure of was that he was determined to find a way for Mira not to be sad or hurt.

"Mira cannot think of any other way.." she confessed as she sighed lightly. "...it seems so hopeless.." Mira looked around as though searching for an answer to reason with, but came up with nothing. "She guesses there is no changing what is already decided... Mira will play her part in this world... She'll do what she's told.. All in the hope of one day being free.." she decided as she then looked to Edmund and gave a reassuring smile. "Do not worry about her, she is fine. Because, even if everything goes wrong and makes her sad, she still has confidence that you will be there for her.. Is she correct in believing so?" her smile grew a little as she spoke. She was feeling a bit of confidence, but it was only to mask her sadness of not finding a way to defy the stars that commanded her actions.

Edmund smiled with a hint of sadness in return. "Yes, I'll be here for you. No matter what. You won't be alone Mira." He squeezed her hand. He hoped that no matter what happened he'd be able to make Mira smile again, making a promise to himself that he would try. "We don't have to think a way to defy them now...but maybe one day there will be a way." He added hopefully. Another silent promise was made to himself to protect Mira. Maybe there was a way he could protect her from being hurt. He didn't know how, but he was definitely going to try. He gave her hand another reassuring squeeze.
As Edmund's feelings of worry for Mira started to be pushed aside, he noticed more how he was holding his hand. His heart started beating faster happily and excitedly. Holding Mira's hand felt nice, hers was smaller and softer then his and he liked the way it felt in his.

Mira smiled back to Edmund, growing more and more confident. She felt happy that Edmund would be there for her, it make her heart flutter and made her felt warm inside. She bit her lip for a moment as she blushed even more than before. A voice rang out in her mind, it told her something as she searched her mind for a response. Mira could come up with no reason why she wouldn't want to follow such a command, she wanted to either way, so she didn't mind. Mira pulled on Edmund's hand a little, pulling him close to her as she leaned forward and attempted to kiss him on the cheek. Yet, since she was blind, she really didn't know how accurate her aim was as she just did so and hoped for the best.

Suddenly Edmund found himself being pulled forward. He made a little questioning noise but then noticed Mira was moving forward...like she was going to kiss him! His brown eyes went wide and his heart beat at a frantic pace. Before he could decide what he wanted to do about it if anything, Mira's lips met his own. He wasn't really sure what he was doing but he did his best to kiss her back. It felt nice to be kissing Mira but he pulled back a little shyly after a few seconds. His eyes remained wide and his face took on a red shade. He brought his hand up to touch his own lips lightly, unsure of what to say. "I......" He fell silent again, his brain wasn't producing anything useful to say anymore. "Th-that was...I liked it." He finally settled on.

Mira had kissed him, but she quickly realized that what she had pressed her lip against was not Edmund's cheek. In fact, it felt like another pair to lips, she had just kissed Edmund. Before she could react to apologize, he kissed her back. Her eyes were wide with surprise, she hadn't expected Edmund to kiss back as her face became flushed with a red tone. As he had pulled back, she took a deep surprised breath and blinked her eyes in amazement. She stared at him, almost frozen in shock. As Edmund spoke, her expression softened into a smile. "..mira liked it too.." she whispered softly, as she brought a hand to her mouth and began to giggle. She began to wonder if the stars had planned this all alone, as if they were telling her this is who she was meant for. It was a strange feeling, but she couldn't deny that this was all happening for a reason. Which she didn't mind one bit.

Edmund wasn't really sure what to say now. He smiled as Mira giggled and stated that she liked the kiss too. He fiddled with the pen he had been given a moment a little awkwardly. "I'm glad you liked it too... Did you want...me to read to you now?" He blushed a bit. He'd be just as happy to keep talking to Mira about anything but his brain still wasn't supplying anything useful, so maybe reading was the better bet. Taking a deep steadying breath he willed his heart to return to a normal pace.

Mirabelle smiled and nodded. "Mira would love that!" she exclaimed as she then thought for a moment. Blushing slightly, she then looked away for a moment, "Mira feels kind of cold... would you like to sit next to her while you read?" she offered with a bashful look as she scooted over to make enough room for him to sit with her on the bed if he so chose to take her request. She wanted him to take the offer, she wanted to feel him close to her, she knew it would make her feel good just to hear his voice so close. She knew all this because the stars told her so, and she trusted their judgment for now. She felt butterflies in her stomach as she await his reply.

Edmund was pleased that Mira wanted him to read to her, and that the awkward wasn't there to stay. As she asked if he'd sit next to her he gave a little blush and a slow nod before realizing she couldn't see it. "Ah...yes I'd like to sit next to you..." he stood from his chair and settled in next to her. He laid his books in this lap and left the pen on the chair so it wouldn't get lost in the blankets. "I brought Tuck Everlasting, The Hobbit, and The Phantom Tollbooth. Which one would you like?"

Mira smiled as Edmund settled in next to her. She was happy to be close to Edmund, as she was really growing to like him more and more. "All of those sound so interesting... You choose which one you think Mira would like.." she answered, smiling even more, she leaned over a bit, rest her head on his chest as she waited to hear which book it would be. Mira was very fond of being read to, and was now even more excited that it would be Edmund reading to her for a change.

As Mira laid her head on Edmund's chest, his heart began to beat a little faster. Having Mira so close was...nice. Shyly, he moved one arm around her and pet her hair. He loved having his hair pet so much that he thought maybe Mira would feel safe and happy like he felt when someone did the same for him. He found that her hair was soft under his fingers and he enjoyed the feel of it. "Alright then..." he looked at each of the books and pondered a moment. "I think you'd like Tuck Everlasting." and with that he opened the book with his free hand and began reading.
