Sachi still smiled. "I do understand. When I say anything, I mean anything. Our parents traveled together... And I can help with whatever you need. A waterbender can come in handy!"

"You might have come in handy when they scanned for the next Avatar."
The water was crystal clear and cool, but it chilled down to the bone at Yana's statement. The wind seemed restless, twisting around the trees headlessly. "The reincarnation cycle has been upset. The Avatar's lost out there."

Sachi sighed. "That's terrible. Now I really want to help."

"Sachi," Yana became stern, "You were filed among the many children thought to become Avatar when my father died. You weren't chosen, despite your potential, and did not fill the requirements. This isn't something a normal mortal, or bender, can handle. It requires a medium...me. I can't let you risk your soul's existence simply because I was careless."

Traveling along their normal route, Kyoujin and his group were passing by a village that held quite a few waterbenders. Some of the group had to sit in the back for their faces would give away their identity as firebenders.
Kyoujin was one. He despised the waterbenders with a passion, and snarled at them from behind his mentor. But Kyoujin was important to the group of merchants; No one would buy from a smelly old man with an over-grown beard, but almost everyone would buy something from a clean-cut and healthy child.
Still making their way on, two girls around his age caught his attention as they passed a lake.
"Augh...waterbenders..." he complained, then his mentor shot him an awful look. He hurried along to them, knowing that if he didn't try selling them something his mentor would smite him.
"Hello fellow villagers," he groaned in an over-practiced voice. "Are either of you young ladies looking to buy something that is rare?"

Yana shrunk away. She'd never shopped before, save for one clumsy attempt to buy bread once in the local village. The sudden arrival upon so crucial a moment with her cousin was both intimidating upon a girl who'd seen more spirits than people and embarassing as the said girl had to attempt appeasement, or escape.
"I....we're fine. Sorry," she muttered in embarassment. It was easy to be serious with her cousin. It was difficult to speak with a boy who had no real relation to her family.

"Are you positive?" Kyoujin kept on. "We got valuables- gold, silver, maybe a little copper. We got food. Everyone needs food, right? Bread, oats, vegetables, meat!" He then paused for effect, getting closer and closer to the girl's face. "I think we might even have a few animals traveling with us...ya know, the cute, the creepy, the bizarre! Not your average and ugly cat, no, we have exotic mix-breeds! Liiiiiiike..." he thought, tapping his chin, "A cabbit! Feirce like a cat, cuddly like a rabbit!"

Yana was about ready to buy the entire caravan if it meant getting this far stranger than normal boy out of the way. But she wasn't that rich, Avatar's daughter or no.
"I..incense." She finally guessed, "Not...not too much..."

"Incense?" Kyoujin asked with a little exasperation. He crossed his arms and gave a little nod. "We got some, but what's a waterbender got to do with incense?"
