Zaitus frowned a bit and looked away when Illidan questioned his family. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched the stallion bump the tree, his eyes widening at the sight of fruit raining down.

"I don't know. I can't really say. I guess that would really be scattered. I know my first sister keeps our mother company most of the time, while my other sister keeps my father company since...well...I can't say I know the male except from what my mother tells me, and...maybe a quick visit now and again..." He shook his head and just shrugged as he trotted over to the fruits and looked them over.

"I don't think my mother worries much as long as I visit now and again to show I am still alive. She knows I like to wander around and do my own thing."

Finding a nice looking pear, he began to nudge at with with his snout and hoof. "I never said I wanted my apple just so I could eat it. I guess, it is just one of those things, you know? You want it cause...well it's yours and you don't want anyone else to have it, not cause you are going to do something with it at the time. Haven't you ever been that way with something?"

"Yes," Illidan replied, watching the colt. "Before I came to this land, I lived in a barren valley. There wasn't much to eat in the way of grass or fruit. As a kalona, I'm able to eat flesh, and often did. Sometimes I would hunt down game and keep it away from the others there, not because I wanted, but I didn't want them to have it."

The stallion tilted his head a little. "You don't have a good relationship with your parents? We are a little alike in that respect, then. My family turned their back on me when I changed."

"It's not that I don't have a good relationship with my family or anything." The foal stared down at the pear and lightly kicked at it. "It just..gets lonely, you know? I mean I am left with my mother and sister, which gets annoying at times cause I'm the only boy around, and hanging out with females can only do me so much good. I love them and all, but still..."

He shook his head and just sighed before looking up at the stallion with curiosity. "Why would you family turn you away like that?"

"They were frightened of what I'd become. I don't know many that willingly allow kalonas near," Illidan said, shrugging. "I never had sisters, just a brother. We were close until we started growing out of being foals." He looked down at the colt. "You can always come visit when you need a break from the mares."

Zaitus let out a huff and trotted his way towards the other male. Though logic of species told him not to get so close, his lack of ears towards logic told him to just help himself to what most could call dangerously idiot.

The young wind foal nudged the male's leg with his head, and grinned as he stared up at Illidan.

"Yeah, well those who always listen to what others warn them about never get to see and experience stuff straight on, right? See, I could have run off when you came along, told you that you were going to eat me and tear me to shred, but I stayed, and I'm still alive...so far. Plus, if all Kalonas went around killing everything I don't think there would be half-Kalonas running around, right?"

"I suppose this is true." Illidan agreed. "I doubt all Kalona are interested in destruction, but a good number are, so you should be wary of the breed if you meet any aside from myself." He moved a wing to pat the colt on the head. "You're very brave, though. That's not a bad trait to have."

The young foal grinned in pride as he fluttered his wings at the older stallion's approval. He wasn't one to get many compliments, just comments and criticisms towards what others find negative about him. While it hurt at times, he would mostly scuff and just use his anger to push him forward. As he always told himself, he would show them they are all wrong, every single one of them.

"Are you really sure I can get stronger one day and become something better? Will you really just openly take me in and teach me everything"

"Yes, to both questions," Illidan told the colt, moving to look down at him. "So long as you're willing to do as I ask so you can learn all that I wish to teach you. The first of these lessons will be controlling and focusing your anger into something more constructive. While you're young and not as strong yet, I'll look after you as well as I can."

Though his new found teacher was something that most would fear, Zaitus found comfort and meaning in his simple words. Maybe this was some kind of sign from life that something great would come his way, or that he would at least have the starting of some path to follow, if anything at least some company.

"Alright then! Whatever you ask, anything, and I'll do it!" He nodded in determination. "When will be the first lesson anyway? I want to learn whatever you have to throw at me! I'm ready! I'm fired up! I want to do something!"

Maybe he had a little too much fire and determination in him...or maybe that apple had something in it.

Determination didn't bother Illidan. He found the trait admirable in the young. "Perhaps the first lesson should be how to listen. Not to anything specific, but just awareness. You can hear much in silence, and learn much." He looked around, spreading his wings slightly. "Why not tell me what you can hear in the forest tonight?"

Zaitus raised a brow at the simple task given to him. He say no real point in the lesson, at least not yet, but he would not complain. He trusted the stallion and trusted these lessons would not have him walking in an endless and unimportant circle of no meaning.

Nodding, the young Wind foal stood steady, his ears flicking and rotating as they tried to pick up any slight sound.

He heard the gentle sound of the spring breeze flutter through the trees, the leaves ruffling against one another in a calming manner. He heard the sound of small mammals rustling amongst the bushes and the forest ground as they made their way to who knows where for the night. He picked up the steady beat of his own heart and breath.

"I hear...well lots of things, but nothing important other than the fact that I'm as alive as I have always been..."

However, he lacked the fact that one of those rustling mammals happen to be his new raccoon friend whom made his way back to steal another fruit from the pile before quickly scurrying back.

"I, didn't hear that..."

Illidan stomped a hoof down before the scurrying raccoon, scaring it into dropping the fruit as it hurried away. He nudged the untouched fruit back to the colt. "If you're aware of surroundings, you will hardly ever be surprised. It will keep you safe from attacks or keep things from being taken from you."

The stallion lifted his head, listening to follow his own advice. It wouldn't do for any creatures of the night to come upon them while he was with the foal. He dropped his head back down to Zaitus' level. "Sometimes your ears can tell you more than your eyes can."

Zaitus' face scrunched up as his ears rotated in a harder attempt to hear beyond the obvious movements of the forest surrounding the two of them.

Biting down on his tongue he continued with his strained concentration on the task before him. It was his first lesson, and there was no way he would let himself fail at it, even if it was the first go. 'This would go a lot faster and better is I was some kind of dog or something...'

It wasn't long before he gave a huff in irritation and just pinned his ears back in anger. "Can tell you more than your eyes, huh? How do you know what exactly is coming your way if you can't see it? I mean, you can probably hear it coming your way, but you won't know how big or what it is exactly unless you see it, right? Or can your ears answer that for you too?"

Illidan looked at Zaitus. "I'm blind, young one. I have to rely on my ears." No need to explain his "sight" right now. "Sometimes silence is more telling than noise. The forest always goes quiet before a storm or in the presence of a predator. Have you ever noticed?"
