"Uh-huh!" Izzy said, nearly bouncing as they headed back toward the lighthouse. She once again held her new friend's hand.
"It's not all that exciting," Henri said, unlocking the heavy metal front door and swinging it open. Unexciting indeed. The lighthouse-inside was simply a semi-rusted spiral staircase trailing all the way to the top, where there was a door. It wasn't a museum or a tourist attraction, as it was still in use, and it was very dark. Henri flipped a switch and on went some dim lighting.
"See?" Izzy said, pointing straight up and getting dizzy as she looked, "It's huge."

"Woooooooooow! It's biiiiig! And it's got a spirally stair like at Grampa's other house!" Maggie exclaimed, stretching her arms out and staring in amazement. "Can we run up the stairs?"
Vance shook his head at that. "No. That's dangerous."

"Definitely," Henri nodded, speaking gravely. More than once teenagers had sneaked in and...regretted it.
"If you want to walk up and see the light, we can, but it's quite a ways up."

"That's okay, I've got energy." Maggie said with a big smile, walking carefully up the stairs with Izzy, Izzy's Daddy and Vance.
Vance shrugged, "Mm it's well cared for."

"Of course it is," Henri smiled, "The man who hired me isn't very...handy. I'm solely in charge of its upkeep."
It took perhaps fifteen minutes to reach the top. Behind the door was a little office with a generator, desk, chair, and computer. A few of Izzy's toys lay scattered in a corner. Up a relatively small wooden flight of stairs brought them to the light itself.

"You do good work." Vance agreed, nodding and keeping an eye on his daughter as she eagerly talked with her friend.
"Woooow." Maggie said, looking at the big light and then out the windows at the view. "So pretty! Iggy'd like this place."
Turning to Izzy, she grinned, "You can see the whooooole beach from up here!"

"Mmhm," Izzy nodded, pointing at a window. There was a quasi-widow's-walk all the way around the outside made of black metal grating, and even though there was a gate, she wasn't allowed out there.
"We only really come up here for storms, when the light has to be on. Other places have auto...automaton lights, but we do...manuals."

Maggie nodded, "That's neat. Must be tirin at night durin a storm though."
The girls talked and looked around for a bit, before Vance noticed the time. "Okay Margret, I have to take you home now. Say goodbye to Izzy and say thanks to her and her Dad then we have to go, okay?" he informed his daughter before turning to give polite goodbyes to Henri.
Maggie smiled, darting over to give Izzy a quick half-hug type thing. "Thanks for showin me around here. We'll have to play again sometime, k?"

Izzy nodded and gladly hugged back. When the embrace was over, she tucked some hair behind her ear.
"Yeah! We live in the little house next door, so we're always here."
"It was nice to meet you," Henri said to the girl's father, offering his hand, "Henri Donateaux."

"Vance Altressor." the other man said, shaking Henri's hand.
The brunette nodded emphatically, "I'll come visit and we can play with my soccer ball next time."

"Yeah!" Izzy chirped, pointing at Margret as if she'd made some brilliant deduction. She liked soccer!
"I'm sure I'll be seeing you again," Henri nodded, putting his hands in his pockets, "Let me walk you down."

"Okay. THanks." Vance said, turning and picking up Maggie to carry her down the stairs - he didn't want her getting forgetful and trying to jump them.
