"Scare me? Why would he want to scare me?" As Sophie knew, Howl tended to be on the cowardly side when he met someone of power equal to his own. "Breakfast always tastes the best," Howl said defensively. "If you wouldn't insist on serving things you know I don't like..."
Devin sat at the table, and so had quite the comic effect. He couldn't reach anything. That was, until Howl picked him up, sat down, and with great care, set the toddler in his lap. "No messes, Devin," he told his brother.

"Maybe so you wouldn't steal my heart?" She teased. Of course, her brain meant literally while her guardian took it figurativly. "Oh, please. How am I ever going to know what you like and don't like when you never eat?"
Sophie felt guilty for placing Devin in such a position, but with Howl at the rescue she felt better. "What do you want to drink, Devin? Howl?"

Howl looked puzzled for a moment. He saw no point in stealing something that already belonged to him. "Sophie. You stole my heart, not the other way around. Though I think that in exchange, you gave me yours." A pause, in which he gave her his brightest smile. "There, you see? You know I don't like it if I don't eat it. Oh, and water's fine."
Devin thought about it. "Milk?" he suggested. "Juice?"

"Ah, but that doesn't apply here, does it?" She retorted. However, she couldn't help, but to smile. Under her breath she murmured, "Oh heartless man..."
The rest of the meal went as planned, once Sophie had Devin his milk. And even with Adrian peeping in through the window the witch felt right at home with her new 'family'.
