Dani was still too overwhelmed and, to be honest, a little panicked, to react appropriately to the stern cast to his voice. She just nodded, and when his hand left hers, she brushed his bangs away from his forehead. Long hair was something she'd never really liked on a guy, but it hadn't ever bothered her with Parker. There were a lot of things about Parker that didn't bother her, that maybe should, but she looked past them because he was Parker. It was funny, because most of the time, she didn't even have to tell herself to look past them.
That should have been a glaring clue to her about what she felt for him, but it was too much to process, so she filed it away. She would think about it later. Later, when he wasn't sitting on the edge of her bed, and they weren't tiptoeing toward being sort of what they used to be, but also something else entirely.
After a moment, she lowered herself to the bed beside him, her thigh brushing his. She placed her hand palm-up on her leg, inviting him to take it. "I promise that from now on, I am not going to meddle like that." It was a hard promise to make, but she was going to keep it. "When you say stop, I'll stop, Parker. I didn't mean to hurt you, either."
She sighed, leaned her head against his shoulder. "I'm sorry."

Her growing proximity made it much more difficult for him to retain the fire of his anger. It was something that they would revisit. He knew that. Not only because it upset him, but because he felt compelled to know exactly what had happened. Dani was officially the only other person in his life who had met his father. That was significant, but Parker wasn't sure if it was positive or negative. His baseline personality whispered negative, but he let the smell of Dani's shampoo push it away.
The words had been said. There were others in his little notepad, little things he knew he had to tell her at some point in their relationship. Dani, I never learned how to cope with things. Dani, I don't know how to accept people's affection. Dani, I don't know how to trust with all of myself without becoming dependent. Dani, I am afraid I am dependent on you now. Dani, sometimes I think there will no one after you, that it is just you and me, and that terrifies me. These were things for another time, or maybe just for his journal.
Parker looked down at her hand. A hand? He brushed it off her leg, and then cupped his hand behind her neck. It wasn't smooth. If anything, it was fumbling, but Parker wanted to kiss his girlfriend in that moment, not hold her hand. He leaned in, lips brushing hers. It might be shallow, but Parker was a teenage boy. He suddenly felt less angry. If they kept kissing, maybe all of the anger would go away? Parker was certainly willing to try.

Kissing was something that she'd missed, and it was with a sigh that she leaned into him, closed her eyes and let go of the worries of the day. It was good to just be back with Parker, to be able to sit next to him and kiss him, and despite him brushing her aside, her free hand sought his free hand. It was a contact she'd sorely missed.
It occurred to her that her parents would be furious if they were aware that she was sitting on the corner of her bed kissing her boyfriend, but she didn't care. She didn't even care when they broke the kiss the breathe, and she pressed her cheek to his, feeling more centered and happy than she had in weeks.
They still had things to talk about, of course, and there were bridges that needed to be mended between them. That was important, but the most important thing was that they were them again, not Parker and Dani, separate.
She figured they could handle most anything when they were them.
