Nightfall accepted the nuzzle from his aunt with glee. He liked this new family member. Really, he planned to like everyone he met today, but so far had only really talked to her. Sure, it was only a hello so far, but for his little foal heart, it was enough. She was kind and gentle, and he was glad to have met her.

He looked up in time to see the new stallion greet them. He introduced himself as 'grandpa' and was just amazing in the colt's eyes. He was big and strong, but his voice was kind. Night saw that he had wings and a horn just like the little colt did, they looked similar in that respect. Nightfall was fascinated.

Their father's father certainly had to be someone amazing (as his father was already wonderful and strong), and just by looking at him Nightfall could tell that he was. The colt's adoration of his grandfather was almost instantaneous.
"Mamma said I got my wings from you," he blurted. "Is that true? Why do we have wings?" he asked, glancing at his aunt, too. In truth, there were many things he wanted to ask but that question was the first to find its way out of his mouth.

---

Katell flushed at the words of Orion's mother, and was pleased that it would be difficult to see on her black coat. "It is certainly in my good fortune to have met him," she responded. Her life had been overflowing with joy since meeting Orion, and she certainly did thank fate for that. She glanced at Echo, and then at the two new winged Soquili. Her family had grown again, in just a matter or moments. Truly, it was a happy day.

Her ears twitched as she caught Echo's soft musing. Still unkind? What would that mean? She wanted to know what the mare meant, but knew it might not be her place to ask outright. Katell worried a bit that she was out of place to say anything to the mare, however, she had felt the need to say something. They were now family, and she knew Orion would not abandon his mother. Where Orion went Katell went, so she felt the need to show her support.

"Surely fate's unkindness is but a blessing in disguise?" Katell said quietly. She meant the words to be encouraging and supportive. It was her philosophy, that there is always a silver lining to the storm.

Ty grinned widely, nuzzling each of his grandchildren before he began. He had so much to tell them! "Well, Nightfall, you did indeed young one. You come from a long line of Soquili with wings." He turned to his granddaughter. "And you, beauty, come from a strong Unicorn as well. Where to begin... With my grandparents then." The Alicorn settled himself in for a long story. He hoped he could prove to Lyrical that she she should be just as proud of her blood as Nightfall.

"My grand father is a Unicorn, Benoni is his name, and his is a strong stallion. My grandmother, Kila, was an Alicorn, like you and I Nightfall. My mother, is an Alicorn as well, and her name is Anemone. My aunt, Reina, is another Unicorn..." He glanced at his granddaughter, smiling widely. "My father, Balrog, is a wind, like Delphy. Now, all of his children have wings. My brothers both have wings, and my brother Firestorm is another Alicorn. My other brother, Hephestos, is a wind. Your grandma is a ground, and I am an Alicorn. Delphy got her wings from me, and your papa got his unicorn from me as well. So you both have a lot to be proud of. Your mother is a strong uni, as is your father."

Delphy smiled, giving her niece another nuzzle before listening to her father speak. She'd heard this many times, but she never got tired of it. It was nice to hear how strong her line was, and she hoped that her niece and nephew would be just as proud of their blood as she was.

"Why do we have wings?" She laughed, nuzzling the foal again. "Now that is a question that we cannot answer. We don't really know why. But having wings, or having a horn, makes us special. You both are very special." She beamed again.

To say that Orion had learned a little from his father's speech was an understatement. He had had no idea that the family line was that huge. And here he was as just a tiny little piece in the puzzle. It gave the stallion an interesting view on just how connected he was to a lot of Soquili that he did not even know of.

Raising his eyes he caught Katell and Echo talking with each other. It made the stallion glad that two of the most important Soquili in his life seemed to be getting along well. He was close to Echo still and as he gazed at her he wondered how long she'd been with foal for. It was a puzzle for sure.

Echo glanced swiftly to Katell. She hadn't meant to be overheard but it was too late to take back now. She gave a false smile to her son's mate before shaking her head slowly. She wanted to tell all of her gathered family about Dradneos but something inside rebelled at the idea. It was too confusing to put into words on how she felt about the dark stallion. Surely they aught to know. But the more she looked at it the more absurd it was. Drad was both her tormentor and her comforter.

"I suppose that you are right in your logic. But some things just seem to outbalance the other."

Lyrical gave an inwardly bored sigh at her grandfather's speech. It seemed as though her brother was drinking in every word though. While it was interesting to hear about the family line and where she came from even the most patient Soquili could be bored to tears. Lowering her head to her foreleg she rubbed her horn against her leg before secretly observing her mother and grandmother. It seemed as though they were getting along just fine as well - discussing something in hushed tones. The young filly sighed loudly this time before letting her front legs fold and lowered herself to the ground. It seemed as though they might be here for a while. This reunion thing might have been a good idea but it was starting to get boring. Lyrical wished that something exciting would happen.

Nightfall listened with curiosity to his grandfather's words. It was a lot for the little colt to take in, but he was excited to hear so many names, and they all sounded grand. He probably wouldn't remember most of the names~but he did understand from his grandfather's tone that everyone he spoke of was someone to be admired. "Wow," he said in a hushed tone, trying his hardest to remember who had been mentioned.

He grinned his aunt's answer to his question. If the adults who had wings didn't know why, maybe it was just one of those things. Those things that just are, like why the rain falls or the sun rises. That was good enough for him. He gave a small hop of joy when she called them special.

"You hear that?" he said turning to his sister to find that she was relaxing on the ground. "Aunt Delphy says we are special, and Grandfather says that all of our family is amazing and strong. Isn't that amazing? And wonderful?" Night was reeling with joy. His family before him was wonderful and amazing, and it sounded like so many others were, too. He looked from his Aunt to his Dad, and then at his Grandfather. As far as Nightfall was concerned, he had the best family that there ever was.
"I am so glad Dad decided to come here, this might be the best day ever!"

---

Katell smiled a small smile in return. It was difficult to tell, but perhaps there really was something troubling the mare. She flicked the end of her tail in quite thought. If Echo wanted it to be known, she would speak. If not, then she didn't need to. Of course, there could be nothing wrong. Katell hoped that was the case. She wished for no ills to befall her new family.

Either way, it was not her place to pry. Nor was this the time.
"Yes, I suppose the balance does sway from side to side," she replied.

Lyrical harrumphed from where she lay as Nightfall prattled on. She couldn't deny that it had been exciting to meet other members of the family from her father's side but now the young filly was thinking of a way to just escape the crowd. She wouldn't run as it was not a polite thing to do. There had to be some way to make the day more interesting. Rising back to her feet Lyrical bumped into Nightfall's side horn first before backing off a bit. She let a surprised look on her face as she spoke quickly. "Sorry Night. I didn't see you there."

------

Echo's Song looked towards Katell before sighing softly. There was nothing to say in response to that statement. Her thoughts meandered back to her predicament before a shiver went down her spine. Her gaze flicked to the horizon briefly before tamping down on the rush of fear that wanted to swamp her. Dradneos was close. She could tell.

Her attention though was suddenly diverted as her granddaughter rose to her feet and 'accidentally' prodded her brother's side with her horn. Something didn't ring true in the filly's words as she tried to apologize for the accident. Echo's gaze narrowed briefly as her right foreleg scuffed at the ground in agitation.

Nightfall wouldn't have noticed the fact that his sister was ignoring him, or the fact that she didn't seem nearly as fascinated as he did. He wouldn't have noticed when she stood up, either, if she hadn't bumped into him. It...wasn't just any bump, either.
“Ooww!” he let the word drag out as he turned his head towards his sister. “That hurt!”

He exhaled sharply at her apology. “What do you mean you didn't see me? I have been here the whole time!” he snapped at her, shifting his back legs so that he was facing her. He hadn't moved at all, there is no way that she forgot he was there. That would mean that she did it on purpose-He ruffled his wings in annoyance that was quickly turning to anger. He hadn't done anything to her. Nothing at all.
“You did it on purpose,” he mumbled, stamping his foot and ruffling his wings again as he glared at his sister.

---

Katell had followed Echo's gaze in time to see Lyrical backing away from Night. Katell's tail twitched as she heard Lyrical's apology. Katell knew that Night wasn't going to take that well. Oh, and it had been such a good meeting until now.

As Night began to fire questions at his sister, Katell sighed and took a step towards her children. 'Foals will be foals, she though to herself. However, now was certainly not the time for quarrels, no matter who started it. Katell cast a quick glance in Orion's direction, hoping the foals wouldn't put a damper on his reunion with his family.

Orion had been watching his sister and father when he heard the exclamations from his children. Shaking his head at the argument brewing the stallion moved swiftly to stand between the pair. Orion glanced down to his son's side and examined the wound left there before turning to look at his daughter. Why did his children have to act up now?

"Lyrical, Nightfall. That's enough! I do not wish to see this behavior from my children. Petty squabbling is unattractive - especially in front of other family members," he softened his voice a little as he glanced from one foal to the other, "I know it's been a long day. If you need to take some time apart from each other. Just stay in sight of at least one of us."

Lyrical Sky stamped her hoof on the ground as Nightfall turned to face her head on. Seeing the look on his face was priceless and worth any bit of trouble that she might receive as a result but she had been bored and in a way feeling left out of the "special" crowd of her extended family that bore wings. Call it jealously ... but the fact was she hated that everyone that her grandfather had mentioned bore wings and she didn't.

Looking at anything except her sibling Lyrical muttered, "I still didn't see you."

Her eyes then widened as her father strode over and began to address both of them. She ducked her head before hearing the last words that Orion had spoken. Lyrical glanced around quickly before breaking into a canter that took her to the base of the hill that everyone else was on. She needed to be far away. At reaching the bottom Lyrical paused and looked at the happy little reunion before ducking her head down to graze silently. The heavy sound of hoof beats reached her and she glanced up in time to see her grandmother join her.

Echo's Song sighed as her son effectively dealt with the situation. There was no real punishment doled out but he'd given his children the option to go and cool whatever tempers they might have had. It didn't seem to surprise the mare that her granddaughter immediately took off to the bottom of the hill. Echo glanced once to Katell before silently following the filly. She would keep a watchful eye on Lyrical for now. As she reached the filly Echo's head lowered as she too began to graze.

The dark stallion stood in the shadows. He'd been there for some time, just silently watching his pregnant mare, and the family she seemed to have. He was silent, his grey eyes just looking over the other mares, stallions and foals.

So... Echo had had children before meeting him. He vaguely wondered why it hadn't worked out between her and that winged stallion. No matter. Dradneos had her now. That was all that mattered to him.

He walked up next to Echo as she bent to graze and gently nosed her neck. "Little Mouse... There you are. You shouldn't wander without telling me," he said softly to her, glancing around at the other Soquili.

To say that Echo was still startled when Dradneos approached her silently would be an understatement. The mare side-stepped nervously. Her gaze shot up to meet the stallion's before taking a deep breath. In the back of her mind she was curious as to how Drad had found her. He always seemed to be able to locate her when she wandered off. This time it was odd. Her family was just a short distance away and Dradneos was the mare's dark secret.

Calming her erratic breathing Echo glanced towards Lyrical Sky's questioning look before nuzzling Dradneos in return to his greeting. "Dradneos - I'm sorry. This meeting though meant something important to me," The mare's tail swished back and forth as she spoke, "I thought that I could make it here and return safely after a little time spent with family."

Lyrical Sky's gaze caught a dark shadow moving towards her grandmother and she gasped before nickering in alarm. Who was this? Her mind whirled in confusion. Did anyone else see what was going on? A quick glance up the hill showed that the rest of her family was still talking? Even though the stallion showed no aggression just his presence exuded an aura of dark intensity. Back-stepping the filly gazed back and forth trying to understand what was going on.

Suddenly it clicked in Lyrical's mind. This must be the new mate of her grandmother. Although he seemed threatening the filly heard the gentleness in the stallion's voice. Curiosity overcame common sense and she stepped forward. Her hoof stamped the ground near the stallion as she examined his coat markings. "Excuse me. But who are you?"
