LET THE QUESTIONS FLY:

1. When considering candidates for impression, is it based solely on personality matching or is activity/writing/etc also taken into account? For example, is a candidate who has been RPed a lot more likely to be considered for impression or is it all in the air dependent on if their personality is the closest match?

2. If we have riders/dragons from other shops on Gaia that are either inactive or that we no longer play in, is there a chance that we might transfer them and their dragons for a fee as though it were custom? If so, does that also apply to bronzes? (Assuming it doesn't for golds since that would probably end with 2380932840927840327 goldriders)

3. Do you all accept bribe offers or will you be sticking only to first come, first serve customs?

1. To keep things impartial and fair it's based solely on personality of the character. There will be events and opportunities that reward activity and writing prowess, however. For Hatchings, though, it needs to be kept even, fair, and impartial and the only way to do that is to go by the submitted/approved profiles.

Just to be clear, Impression is a group decision that the shop staff discusses. If a staffer has a character (not a custom) in a Hatching they are excluded from the discussion to keep things a surprise and to prevent bias. I hold veto power on all matching, however.

2. Transfer characters are most definitely welcome. There will be special slots and a custom availability will be fairly frequent. I'm a little wary to say yes for bronzeriders because the bronzes and the golds are to be limited. It will probably be a case of 'accepting bronzeriders this round' and 'not accepting bronzeriders this round' with the various opportunities. For any and all transfers, I ask that they have reason to ICly be transferred and that their history be adjusted to this canon - in particular how the Old and New views and the Atypicals play into their opinions.

3. This shop is 100% free, which means no bribes unfortunately. Staff can do pet trades (I must confirm this prior to anything being done) so you might be able to arrange something via that method - to inquire about a pet trade, please PM the shop mule. Everyone has equal chance to earn things. I may, however, offer real life unique lined customs in the future, depending on how things go.

It was mentioned earlier that Atypical Dragons have been around for 200-300 Turns. When were Trine and Malvren Weyrs founded in this time?
PostPosted: Tue May 11, 2010 2:44 pm

Between 50 and 150 years after Atypical dragons were established. There was much social change in that time and it took a bit for things to settle down. The Atypical dragons are more or less a major reason for the seeming divide between New and Old Weyrs. Within that time frame is when Malvren and Trine were founded.

I’ve got some questions to clear up so I can make an entry to the semi-custom raffle.

1.) What is the general stance of the inhabitants of Benden Weyr on Atypicals?

2.) I believe I read somewhere that Ancientcraft is more like an obsessive hobby then an actual craft. Going on this theme, could someone have a dual craft – say Bakercraft/Ancientcraft – with Ancientcraft being a sort of dirty secret or side job?

3.) How exactly would an Ancientcraft character be handled? Would they be expected to just never get any AIVAS technologies working, would the staff give a list of approved technologies, or would the role-player need to ask permission for whatever technology they want their character to possibly get working?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 15, 2010 11:34 am

Here's your answers:
1.) Benden generally views the Atypicals as weak and a drain on resources, to the point that they're not worth the time. A comparison of mortality rates between Traditional and Atypical colours would should that not nearly as meany Atypicals survive as do Traditional. It is because of this uncertainty that Benden, and most Old Weyrs, just don't approve of them. It's something that separates the Old Weyrs from the New - the Old Weyrs don't actively hatch their Atypicals, a dragon must be strong enough to break its shell to survive.

2.) They could indeed! There's no real market for the goods from Ancientcraft so those who take it up are either poor, holdless, or eccentric/insane. That stigma generally means there's a definite rift between normal society and an Ancientcrafter. Most don't even find a Master to learn from and just tinker with that they find.

3.) Depends on what 'field' they'd be most active in. In general the pieces found will be just that - nonfunctioning pieces like circuit boards, random keys and buttons, maybe a broken screen, and lots of wiring. On the most part, it's small stuff - not everything handles thousands of years of decay all that well. For getting large/important stuff to work, the player would have to run it by staff, otherwise small things would generally be okay. If you have specific items in mind, include them in the app for review =3

Hopefully that helps!

I have a couple of questions regarding this shop's version of canon. <3

1) What technologies were recovered from AIVAS and are considered "acceptable?" ie, surgery, papercraft, instruments, etcetc.

2) The specific technology in question: telegraphs. Were these used or abandoned?

3) In regards to the previous questions, would the RunnerCraft be considered an acceptable craft for a character? Or would the runners have been "phased out" during the Long Interval where dragonriders could take messages to other places much faster than a runner or rider on runnerbeast? And with the advent of Threadfall again, would this craft have been revived or completely forgotten?

4) Considering the Huge Event of the double hatching coming soon, are there any Weavercrafts men and women planning on making commemorative tunics celebrating the event? =D *shot*

1) Various medical techniques and tools were learned, as were a variety of paper and plastic-making things. Long-range communications was also adopted, along with data storage. However, with AIVAS' failure to properly deal with the red star, nearly all the technology was abandonned. To be precise, the only things that have really continued on are papercraft and some medical techniques - though both have adapted in the interm. Plastics and long-range communications are shunned entirely, though due to the materials that make them up, fragments and relics can sometimes be found.

2) They were used, the technology in its infancy, when the planet wide abandonment of AIVAS tech occurred.

3) Runnercraft is most definitely an acceptable craft. If you're looking for long-range communications Pern style, drummers and light signals are very much still in use.

4) I imagine there's a few doing so, if for no other reason then to celebrate Trine's luck and rub it in Benden's face. xD

Is there a list of (edit) Non Rider NPC's for each weyr or are they created as needed? (I'd like to RP with one but I don't know what to request!)
Or do non RIders like senior healers count for NPC RP requests? TY!!
PostPosted: Sun Aug 08, 2010 11:20 pm

The main NPC characters that aren't Riders are the Headwoman, who is responsible for carrying out the Weyrwoman's orders. She's third from the top in authority (first being Weyrwoman and second being Jr. Weyrwomen) and conducts the domestic affairs.

There are also healers, cooks, and a variety of other essential personnel who run and maintain the Weyr.

If you want RP with someone like the Head Cook, the Headwoman, or the Weyr's top ranking Masterhealer, you'd have to request it, otherwise feel free to make NPCs as needed =3

If you're unsure about a specific NPC or job or the like, toss an IM or a PM my way (AIM: skieborne) and I'll be happy to clarify~

okay i have a few questions
on the dragon certing thread is that certifying them to breed?
what does the line through the information mean on the certing dragon information?
is all previous hatching information found on the site somewhere?
what does it mean when an event is open or closed
can one person have more than one pernese character going if so how many?
how do you apply for a fire lizard egg?
and in a hatching in order to be considered do you have to place a post so the master of the event knows you are there?
thank you for reviewing my questions

Sorry I didn't see this before now!

I'm just going to list the answers =3
1) the dragon certing thread is for when you obtain a dragon. you post certing information - name, colour, weyr, rider, player, etc etc so that the staff can put the image on a card that you can display in your signature. For breeding, players must obtain the Owner's permission prior to creating a Flight thread for breeding crimsons and golds, permission need not be obtained for greens, as they are infertile.
2)Struck up information means they've been certed and have been posted in the main thread for pick-up by the dragon's owner/player
3)What do you mean previous hatching information? Like hatching threads and touchings and things? All previous events are moved to the archives once they've been completed. You can read through them as needed.
4) An event that is open is open for posting and participation. An event that is closed is over and complete, no more participation or posting will be allowed. usually an even that is over gets locked.
5) You can have as many characters as you can keep active. however, quality over quantity is stressed and submitting several characters to a hatching does no guarantee any will impress and is generally an unreliable, and disliked tactic.
6)Fire lizard eggs and firelizards are given out as rewards for games, events, and other such things. The best place to hang out if you want one is to participate in the main thread's activities. Just post stalk the mule if you don't know where the main thread is.
7) If you've signed up for a hatching, then the character's presence is assumed. We know people get busy so it's not required to be present buuuut generally posting once or twice at least is a good idea - it's always more fun if you participate.
8 ) If, by keep, you mean obtain all rights to: no. The rights to the art is owned by the artists who coloured/drew the dragon but the character is yours from Impression onward, and you can save the dragon picture but the art may not be edited, altered or otherwise used without the artist's permission. You are welcome to display the image in your signature and post with it on gaia and use it as reference in the commissioning of character art but I don't want the art used off of Gaia or outside this RP. To post it, just use standard image tags (User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.) as per normal. Do save the image of the dragon and the cert to your own image server, however.

Alright, question time! The topic of my question today is Bespeaking.

I know in the series that dragons can bespeak other dragons from most anywhere on Pern, but what is the policy for regarding this regarding RP? If a Trine dragon met/sort of befriended a Benden dragon during the previous meta for example and wishes to have a short conversation with the other on a matter, is that allowed? Is there any limbo place in the guild where it would/could be held, or would it have to be taken to PMs since it's technically in both Weyrs at once and is only really them conversing via mental telephone? XD

The dragons would be able to speak to one another across the planet but.... it would be likely speaking through a crackly, poorly connected phone for example. It's not something that's a preferred method of communication. And, really, the ones with the best ability for long-range communication would be golds, since the Weyrwomen of Pern do coordinate things on occasion.

As for location in guild for such an RP, I will say either of the environs for the Weyrs of the speaking dragons.

Keep in mind that the prejudices of the various Weyrs will also come into play as dragons tend to suit their home. I also don't want this to be a common occurrence =3 I trust you to have discretion with such things.
