Novi flattened his ears against his mess of black hair, looking fretful. "I-I'm sorry, Emmie. I dunno what just came over me." Ohno, she was looking at him strange... Would she guess that he had a dark-tempered man inside his head, that laughed at him and mocked him sometimes? He didn't want Emmie to know and he looked positively spooked.
But when she offered a doll, he blinked, confused. Then he leapt at the chance of a coverup. "Y-Yeah! That's right... I really want a stuffed toy like Caek, someone to sleep with at night, cuz I had a nightmare last night about a guy...That's why I was growling." He nodded quickly, vigorously, and then hugged his tail again. "Will you show it to me?"

Emily nodded, took his hand, and together they began to walk to her room - first floor as her parents wanted it, like she couldn't brave the steps on her own! "It's okay, lil bro, everyone wants a doll once in their life. Perfectly normal," she explained to him gently. "It's just that not everyone gets one. I think I'd have nightmares too if Caek wasn't with me. I think he secretly enters my dreams and watches over me like a dreamyguardianangle thing-friend. But don't tell him I said that," she added in a whisper. "He likes to think it's all a big secret because he doesn't want to look like a softie."
At length the pair found themselves in Emily's room, a modestly furnished niche covered mostly with pillows on the ground and odd hats she had collected: a LEGO astronaut helmet, a thimble she had counted as an unfashioned knight's helmet, and the cap of a water bottle she sometimes put on Caek if he wanted a hat too. "Let's seeeeee . . ." Emily parted from Novi for a second, digging through the masses and eventually giving a cry of satisfaction as she pulled out a doll around Caek's size, perhaps more eaten up but still recognizable as a gray hamster. "I think it has sand inside or something," she commented, presenting it to him with a big grin, "so be careful not to break it. Or him or her."

Novi gave up his hand without a fight -- he loved his little sister -although she was a bit more mature than him (just a bit!) -- and padded along quietly beside her, tail slashing to and fro as she spoke. He was a boy...but a doll wouldn't mean he was sissy, right? Bary'd prolly nag him. Vik would definitely nag him. He flattened his ears and wished for a better place, then they were in Emmie's room.
He reached for the worn toy, cuddling it to his chest. "I will name it Muffin," he declared, feeling giddy about having a toy of his own. "Muffin can be Caek's sister!" Letting the toy drape from his arm, he glomped Emily, glad that Vik had settled down enough for him to think clearly. "Thanks, sissy." He beamed at her, then glanced towards the door. "I'm gonna go visit Ms. Gwin... Wanna come?"

"MUFFIN!" A singular exclamation that expressed within it Emily's utter joy over the name. "Muffin, muffin, muffin! I love it!" she said, just in case it wasn't registered the first time, and quite eagerly hugged Novi when she was glomped, laughing and nuzzling him. What a momentous occassion! "My pleasure, Noviiiiii. I'm sure Caek'll be happy he has a sister~" Ah, there wasn't any sort of better happiness to her than to make someone else happy, and Emily was practically flushed with pleasure the way her brother was elated with Muffin as a gift.
"Sure, I'll come. Just don't tell her I still have one of her sketchpads from the closet~ Let's hurry!" Ms. Gwin could be the first to see Caek's new sister! And thus together the happy pair went out, Emily completely forgetting Novik's strange growl and questions in the wake of the happy event.
