Rivener felt himself pulled to a stop and for a moment wondered if he'd offended Zul. What would the demon possibly want, that he'd stop them in their errand? Zul was normally so easy-going, he'd not protest something as small as changing the direction of their walk, would he?

Rivener's unspoken questions were answered a half-second later, as a finger-less gloved hand slipped against his cheek, Zul's azure eyes closing as he leaned closer, warm lips melting against Riv's. Dark eyebrows arched up over startled red eyes that quickly fluttered shut, the Sigel moving into the kiss whole-heartedly. Riv's free hand lifted to Zul's upper arm, a small shadow of the hug he REALLY wanted to give...

The frei moved away and declared they could go on with their chore now, and Rivener found himself just floating there with a dumb grin on his face for a few heartbeats. Zul's subsequent question snapped him out of it, thankfully. "Ah-uh, wh-wha? Oh, uhm... We need a-... plane sander. Yes. Let's uh, go inside." Clearing his throat to dissolve the last bits of himself looking like a fool, Riv turned back towards the hardware store and floated in, the tell-tale "ding" of the door announcing their presence to the staff.

As much as Rivener didn't want to admit he knew nothing of plane sanders, there was now no choice: he had to ask. Otherwise they'd be wandering in here much too long and Aphi would just call again. Swallowing his pride, the Scorpion approached someone in the red button-up shirts all employees here wore. "Ah, excuse me, where do we get a plane sander?"

Despite the surprised look on the young man's face and the quick glance at the two Raevans' missing lower bodies, the employee was very helpful. He led the pair directly to the proper area and suggested which one to purchase, which Rivener picked up (cursing the need for two hands to carry the rather bulky box). As Rivener paid, he pointed towards the phone set up in the shop's entryway. "Zul, can you call the cab for us please? It's a direct line, I think, so just tell them where we are." Riv smiled, fully believing the frei could handle that. Then they could go back to being alone together as they waited for the cab to arrive.

The demon was pleased with his Scorpion's reaction, quite visibly preening in the way he smiled, the way his wings fluttered with contentment before settling against his back again, floating with pride at the Sigel's side. Rivener's stumbling over words did little to deflate Zul's ego on the matter, grinning a bit widely until the other said what they needed. A plane sander? "What is he up to...?" he mulled out loud, trying to imagine why Aphismet would have a plane to sand. Or why he'd want to put sand on a plane. Or where he got one to begin with!

Keeping his questions to himself, certain that his Scorpion knew better than he, he breathed deeply of the hardware store and turned a slow circle while the elder Raevan spoke with the clerk. The smell! It was so...so unusual! He followed the two towards the indicated row but still retained a curious and distracted look about him, deciphering all he was smelling and seeing as quickly as he could; grease, rubber, wood and metal all conglomerated into one, and for some reason, Zul found it rather agreeable.

He would have liked to have looked around a bit more, having never been in such a shop before, but his Sigel was asking him to help and the demon was not inclined to ignore the request. Granted, Zul had no idea what the Sigel was talking about with a 'direct line,' but he picked up the phone and did his best anyway, cradling the plastic between bare shoulder and long pierced ear. "Taxi," he said rather clearly to the voice on the other end, startling it into silence. There was a few beeps and a question of where they were, to which the Frei looked around the store again in contemplative wonder. "Hardware store, for plane sanders," he explained unnecessarily. "Durem." A pause. "No, I don't know what it's called. There's a car lot on the corner..."

Luckily, the person on the other end had more of a clue than the Raevan did, and when told there was a taxi en route between five and ten minutes, he contentedly returned to Rivener's side with a smile. "It smells nice in here," he commented idly, as one might praise a bakery or restaurant. Blue eyes turned briefly towards the box - that was definitely not enough sand for a plane, and they had the picture all wrong! - but he was not one to say. Aphismet was definitely on his own for that. "Taxi will be here in five." Zul tested the words out and found they came out rather natural, smiling as if he hadn't been as oblivious as he truly was.

By the time Rivener was done paying for his guardian's plane sander, Zul returned and announced that the taxi was on its way... and that it smelled nice in the store. A wide grin split Riv's face, pleased to learn even something this small. "You like this kind of smell?" he asked, lugging the bulky box off the counter and floating lazily towards the exit. If Zul liked it in here, then they'd stay in to wait for the cab, instead of idling outside. "It smells like rubber and oil. Weird that you'd like this stuff... OH, you should go hang out in a garage or mechanical repair shop, then! It smells like this in there too. Only, without the woodsy undertone."

If was obvious Rivener was elated, trying to help his Zul think of ways to experience this smell on his own. It wasn't unpleasant to the Sigel, but he didn't particularly enjoy it either. He was more of a... hm, what smells DID Riv like best? Coffee, for one, he enjoyed... And hothouse smells. Ebony's greenhouse had been really nice! And ah, hot sand on the beach. Sunscreen. Riv's smile turned a little thoughtful, as getting to know the demon frei forced him to get to know himself a little better, too.

"Ah, I see the cab coming. That was fast... C'mon then, let's go I guess." With a sigh the Scorpion headed for the door. He didn't want their outing to be over already! But, they'd still be together at home, so it wasn't all that bad.

For one moment, Zul's expression froze. He looked at the Scorpion with an uncertainty in his unyielding smile, but eventually, his face softened into a bittersweet reflection. "Dayo lived at a mechanical repair garage," Zul commented in a slightly off voice, his eyes turning towards the entrance of the shop and the windows flanking the door. "Maybe that's why I like it." It held fond memories for him, chasing the Eagle wildly through the metal and cement establishment, though it had ended when she'd ducked beneath some drawers and his molted horn had caught them and sent a shower of bolts around them like heavy confetti...

Blinking, realizing he'd fallen into a sort of reverie, he nodded to the Sigel's words and quickly moved in front of Rivener, getting the door for him. It was something he'd seen Alex do for people who had their hands full of groceries or children; more to his token interest, it was something he'd seen Bear do for Zeke. Zul had not forgotten that it was their time out, errand and memories aside!

He wordlessly moved to the taxi just as it stopped, opening the back door for Rivener in the same motion. The demon dropped his blue gaze towards the stunned looking driver, giving him a winning smile and uttering, "Plane sander," while indicating the box in the Sigel's hold. If there was any doubt to who had called the taxi, certainly that would solve everything.

Zul himself only entered the taxi after his Sigel was situated, his ribbon curled lazily over the back seat as he maneuvered himself against Rivener's side, leaning against the stronger Raevan. Tilting his head back, he gave the Scorpion the smile he wore just for him, a happy expression with a touch of warmth and the hint of something vague and dark like a promise just beneath. "That was fun," he purred, lifting a hand to draw his fingers over the other's jaw. "And nice. We should do more errands." The demon grinned; if this is what dating was like, he could certainly understand the appeal.

Rivener thought it was incredibly sweet of Zul to get the door for him like that. A sly, flattered grin spread over the Scorpion's features and he let himself be doted on slightly, even if it WAS supposed to be HIM doing the "manly gentleman" things (or so he thought). The truth was, he secretly enjoyed being treated this way, nicely and considerately.

The cab driver was shocked to see two half-bodies, of course, but Rivener was used to this kind of stare. He simply sat and chuckled at Zul's catch-all explanation of "plane sander". The demon settled against Rivener's side, the Sigel softly informing their driver of the destination. It'd be a pretty long ride, more private than a bus... not so bad, all in all.

Zul echoed those sentiments, declaring this to have been fun and nice. Riv let his eyes slip closed at the feel of fingers along his jaw... Ugh, Zul could make him shiver with such little touches! "Mnh, next time let's go on an errand that won't be such a hurry. I had lots of fun too." Riv's grin was of a more honey-coated kind then, his ruby eyes taking on that bedroomy quality he reserved solely for Zul now. Ignoring the driver who may or may not be peering at them through the car's rear-view mirror, Riv tilted his head over to place a kiss on the other Raevan's lips, letting a soft contented sigh escape from around the point of contact.

The "date" had been all too short-lived, but once they got home Riv promised himself not to let Zul escape away. They'd play video games or watch a movie, do something together for the rest of the day.

The demon was all too pleased to be the bearer of Rivener's affection; his head tilted back to receive and return the kiss, unable to repress the slight curve of his lips into a smile at the sound uttered from the Scorpion's lips. Sky-blue eyes lidded into a most feral and content expression, soaking in the sultry smile that Rivener gave him and returning it with his own brand of affectionate come-hither. Zul could not have been more content in that moment if he tried.

Leaning against the Sigel more fully, he rested one hand on the Scorpion's chest, the other on his jaw slipping further beyond and into his hair, touching his horns only briefly before tracing through the bound locks over his shoulder. If the taxi driver was watching, he neither noticed nor cared; he would take the long ride home to dote on his Rivener, to tell him all he felt without using words. "Maybe Afi and Alix will leave us alone for this," he practically purred, his smoky words coated with sugar. They had done an errand to benefit Rivener's man - surely, it would afford them time to do as they pleased...

His wings tucked against his back and time seemed to escape him. If they could find the time to do this more - even if it was doing something as menial as human chores like grocery shopping or going by the bank - Zul decided that he could easily be more helpful around the house. He needed only the right incentive, the best of which he was curled against and nearly purring on, plane sanders be damned.

Maybe Zul was growing up a little, but one errand was too early to tell. All he knew for certain was they would have a much needed and over-due 'date' of their own, spending the rest of their day the best way they knew how: together.
