In the tomboy's mind, there were two types of people in the world. Dog people and cat people. You are undeniably one or the other. Occasionally there would be the rare exception who could classify as both, but there was no such thing as a person who couldn't classify as one or the other.
A least, there was no such thing in Ellie's mind as a person who couldn't classify as one or the other.
There were a lot of things you didn't tease Ellie about. One of them was something that had dared to fall out of the redhead's lips. Without any explanation, the girl set the dog's paws down on the ground, and rather swiftly jutted her elbow towards Barnaby's stomach.
"Don't ya ever say that again, Price," she warned. "I'm goin' easy on ya t'day, 'cause ya got yer dog 'ere." The blonde still didn't explain a word as to why she just suddenly assaulted him, which probably left the redhead simply wondering WHY?!!

Indeed, there were two kinds of people in the world when it came to animals. All of the cat people seemed to be stuck up in Destiny City hospital, awaiting the arrival of some domestic kitty to sit on their lap and purr. Though their luck was certainly taking a turn for the better, Barnaby distinctly remembered several visits in which the presence of Minnie Mouse had not gone over so well. Poor Sue. He hoped he hadn't traumatized the boy too much.
But there were more distinctions in the world than just those who liked cats and those who liked dogs. There were also those who used their words and those who used their fists. It appeared that Ellie fell into the latter category.
"Dude, what the ******** was that for?" Barnaby tugged his dog closer to him as long she needed more protection than he did. Flying elbows were definitely not on his list of "things to do today", and if Ellie was going to just nail him without any warning then he had to make sure Minnie wasn't going to get in the way. Hitting him was one thing. Hitting his dog was another thing entirely.
He made a dismissive gesture at the "going easy" part, still frowning. "Easy or not easy, you don't just hit people because they tease you. What are you, five?"

Was it a bad thing that Ellie was already smiling again and once more giving attention to the dog? Probably, but the tomboy didn't care. Her hands were flopping about the dog's ears some more as Price complained.
"Seriously man? I thought ya were made of tougher stuff. Guess that makes ya a p***y." The girl's voice sounded disappointed. Even Jared didn't whine so much when he got hit out of the blue.
After contenting herself for a moment longer with Minnie's ears, she then stood herself up straight again and looked the boy over. "There's teasin'... and there's below th'belt teasin'... ya can tease me up an' down... but never go below th'belt." She looked him dead in the eyes, as if trying to read his thoughts through the simple eye contact. Her mouth twisted up slightly, shifting from the simple smile to something more serious and thoughtful. Her hand edged out, and soon enough was being held out about the level of her stomach.
"Think ya can handle that?" Wait, was she expecting him to shake hands and agree to not teasing her about her gender?!
You better believe it!

She was touching his dog? After she'd nailed him in the stomach? Totally not cool. Clearing his throat, the redhead oh-so-casually stepped between the blonde and his dog. If she could flip her lid that easily for one off-hand comment there would be no telling what she could do to Minnie Mouse. He liked his dog friendly and in one piece. He didn't want her becoming aggressive towards strangers who couldn't keep their fists (or in this case their elbows) to themselves. That just wasn't how it's done.
Both his eyebrows shot up at her explanation of her actions, looking more and more like he was dealing with a crazy person. And, not only did she want him to keep it above the belt (What? He hadn't insulted her mother or anything) she wanted him to shake on it? Not today.
"Yeah…. Uh, we have a walk to finish, if you'll excuse us." Barnaby didn't give Minnie the slightest chance to say good bye, dragging her around Ellie and down the sidewalk. The faster they got away from her the better.

Barnaby Price just did something completely wrong. He just snubbed Ellie Spectre. Her request had been reasonable, and he just up and left. His excuse was lame at best.
Her expression easily shifted from something vaguely pleasant to absolute anger within 3 seconds.
"Yer a f*ckin' sexist p***y, Price!" she shouted out behind him before tromping off to tend to her own business. Hank and Phil were completely baffled as to what had put Ellie in such a bad mood. It wasn't like the girl actually talked about her feelings.
That was just much too girly.
