o9. The Sister
As determined as Harley had been to stay awake until midnight, it had become obvious early on that that wasn't going to happen. The jackalope boy lay curled on the floor in the fetal position, sucking his thumb (Nathan would really have to quell that habit early with those teeth of his) with his ears folded back, dead asleep. Midnight had come and gone, and still no object had turned into a child of any kind.
Nathan was lent to relief and disappointment when the time rolled by and nothing had happened. It was good both to have a child and to not have a child, so he was torn with that at least. A small part of him believed that Switch had been playing with him, pulling his head so to speak. He should turn in for the night, but before that he needed to know what was inside the trickbox (if anything). He sat on the floor, sliding panels this way and that, twisting and pushing and pulling and often backtracking. When he reached the final step, he simply pulled the front of the box off.
The sound was indescribable. It was something like a "woosh" and a "bang" and a "whee" all at once. Whatever it had been, the box collapsed into 6 square pieces and dulled to black, and the cardboard within more or less evaporated. Sitting on the collapsed structure was a small child, peering up at Nathan as if he had somehow wronged it.
"Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" Harley yelped, having been awakened by the noise. He had really, really been hoping for a Transformer sibling, rather than a creepy one. Nathan just laughed and gathered the child in his arms, taking a quick peek before wrapping her in a blanket. Well then.
"Be nice," he chuckled, reaching out to ruffle Harley's hair, "At least you still have all your cars."
"Put it back, put it back!"

Growth Prompt:
Harley's an energetic - if not single minded - toddler. His life seems pretty interesting thus far, and certainly having a new sibling around is just adding to it! Especially a sibling that he seems pretty hesitant about. But, alas, he has to try and accept that he has one creepy little sister. How does he come to terms with it? Does he get over his mild fear of the little girl, or does it stay in place? How does he handle suddenly becoming a big brother?

1o. The Prompt
Harley had stared over the table at Riley all through breakfast. He had slept the night in Daddy's bed, having readily offered his own to his new baby sister. They had talked long into the night about how Riley was just like any other baby, and just because she looked different didn't mean she was evil or scary.
Harley wasn't totally sure he was buying it.
Riley was eating quietly, every so often looking up at Harley, making brief eye contact, and then looking back down at her plate. She wasn't messy like a lot of babies. She seemed to have this eating thing down pat.
Pancakes and eggs were had, and then Harley looked up to Daddy, ears perking.
"May I be eskoosed?" he asked. There was a trip to the mall planned today, and he wanted some time to play before they left to do gross girl shopping. It was so hard to go by the toy store and not ask for anything!
"Sure," Nathan nodded, and stood to take the plates and clean them before adding, "Take Riley with you."
Ughhh. Harley's ears folded back, but he took his new sister's hand and she smiled at him. Gosh, that smile...it was so creepy! To his room the pair traveled. Harley released his sister's hand as soon as they were inside the door and went to the corner where his dinosaurs stood, beginning to set up an elaborate spaceman-dinosaur battle.
It was what happened when you traveled time, yenno.
Within moments, though, he heard a soft clink and some strange noises. Growling? Was Riley GROWLING AT HIM?! The jackalope boy turned slowly, ears folded all the way back.
Riley sat on his rug, driving a car fast down the hooked roads and making noises to fit. She seemed so involved in her game that she didn't notice her brother's glance.
Harley's ears relaxed, going erect again, and he smiled softly.
Maybe this whole little sister thing would work out after all...
