Skadi merely sent her aunt a sidelong frown at the comment. Of course she knew that Skuld had cleaned her as a cub. She hadn't had any other parents back then. And sorrr-ry that she hadn't had any cubs of her own yet! Not everyone could get "friendly" with strange hybrids out in the wilderness and...
She paused for a moment, looking down at the cubs again. Skuld had been like a mother to her, and now... The old lady finally had some cubs of her own.
That would almost make them... Siblings. Kinda. Sorta.
With that thought in mind, Skadi sank down until her belly laid aginst the ground and her nose was level with the squirmy little things.
"Hi, Urd," she murmured to the whitish little cub. It was really amazing that something so small, and so helpless, could be so... Alive.

It hadn't been Skuld's intention to rub Skadi the wrong way, and yet she had. It had gotten better after she came back, but sparks still flew between them at times. The moment of friction passed as her niece finally relaxed and really connected with the little one. Skuld allowed herself a proud smile. Things would be all right now. She had told herself that she didn't care, that she didn't worry what others thought. Now it was finally true. Skadi had offered her silent approval, and that was everything she needed. Everyone else could just stuff it, because the most important member of her pride had met her half spirited cubs without rejecting them.
"And this is Ilo," she said, settling down so that the two cubs were safe and sound in the space between her body and Skadi's, "And like you noticed he really takes after his grandfather."
