Emi hadn’t known that there happened to be someone just outside the door of the building. Moving quickly because of the cold, it wasn’t until she was at least six or seven steps from where the door had swung open and hit a man. The only reason she stopped, knowing something had happened, was because of the moans of pain that reached her ears. However, the teenager could only stand still for a few seconds before turning around to see what caused all the noise. Face it, when sudden moans that sounded like they were coming from a banshee reached you, you might be a bit freaked out.
The sight that she saw was not one she expected, to be frank. Rushing over to the man on the ground, the female took note of what he was wearing. Oh great, a private from New Eve. Or at least she was guessing he was a private. Kneeling down, Emi lifted the male’s head of the hard ground and placed it on her lap. “I’m so sorry,” she apologized and for once, sarcasm didn’t drip from the words. “I had no idea you were right next to the door where you would get hit.” Great what had she just gotten herself into? Not to mention she was in a short dress, kneeling on the ground. Why was she going to the ball? Her beloved FlameFrost was forcing her too. Probably cause he would want to see his mother and sister if he could. Could the night get any better?
A black haired male silently wandered near the ball. Most everyone who was there at the moment was gathered outside, waiting for the even to begin. His eyes scanned the area, falling on a familiar head and someone he was most sure he had seen at the bonding caves the same day he bonded. Skillfully quiet, Jace slid up close enough to catch the female’s teasing words. Heh, why not have some fun and annoy his baby brother? Hey, it was fun and that was all that mattered at the moment.
The male had his arm slung around the female’s shoulders in a flash. He gave her a quick wink to tell her that he was just messing around with Lysander and it would be awesome if she played along. “Why hello there, Lysander. You wouldn’t happen to be the one who asked this pretty lady out before I did, would you?” The teenager pretended to think for a moment. “Then again…” he trailed off. Oh, this was so much fun.

Good-bye, cruel world... Rayan thought as the white dots started to fade away from his vision, only to be replaced by total darkness. He wondered if this was what death felt like, so calm and serene, the voices of angels calling out to him. If the warm hands that now cradled his face were the welcoming arms of heaven, then he welcomed his fate. For such an end would certainly be better than the misery Darkheart would put him through for the rest of his unfortunate life.
You would only be so lucky.
The sudden snarl that entered his mind had Rayan reeling back to the cold reality, where he found himself lying on the snow-covered street and surrounded by the shadows of the night. However, as the ache in his head ebbed away and his vision focused, he finally noticed the face of a beautiful angel hovering above him with such sincerity. A lazy grin found its way onto his face (and had he known Emi was in a short dress, he definitely would've tried to reach out and hug her, awkward angle insignificant).
Rayan looked over her soft features with appreciation, and would've allowed his eyes to roam further down had he been able to. But as it were, the fact that his head was in her lap made such a feat difficult... wait a minute, his head was in a girl's lap? "Have I died and gone to heaven?" A cheeky grin crept onto his face. "...or am I just dreaming?" Rayan reached up and pretended to pinch himself in the cheek. "Nope, doesn't hurt! Then you must really be an angel!" Corny? Most definitely. Did he care? As if.

Emi sighed gently as the male started to come around. Relief slowly traveled her face, finally reaching her eyes. Shaking her head the man’s questions, the female couldn’t help but laugh at him. Such corny words, he had to be a pretty confident person. Leaning down so her hair loosely fell around her face, she shook her head again. “Sorry to tell you, but you’re not dead, and I’m not an angel. I still have a lot of fun ahead of me. But really, I’m sorry. Had I known you were there I never would have swung the door open like that,” the black and blue haired female told the New Eve member.
A white frosted, blood red wolf padded up to the two humans. Coming close to the unfamiliar man, FlameFrost nuzzled him gently. One ear of his dropped gently. He… I can't pick out if he as sister's scent on him, he told his bonded and earned a nice, gently hand running over his ears. He really wanted to see his sister. When the two of them bonded with their humans, they ended up going to different forts so he never even learned what name she had been given.
Don’t worry, Flame, you’ll see her soon, Emi told her wolf supportively. “So, my guess is that you’re headed for the ball.” That was about as much she could figure out. Why was he all the way here? And where was his wolf? If he was indeed a Private that is. “You should get up now. Not too good to stay laying in the cold, now is it?” In all actuality, the fact that she was kneeling in that same snow, with bare legs, was a pretty big part in the decision.

Now this wasn't very practical at all. Here he was standing outside in his dress uniform, which had a jacket, or coat depending on your opinion of the matter, but two of the women standing near him had nothing to keep their backs warm at all. Maybe it should be time to let everyone go inside so they wouldn't freeze out there and get sick. The two young men, well frankly he could really care less with the poor show they were doing. Honestly.. teasing and flirting.. pigs.
The firm thought in mind to get away from the "show" playing out in front of him, and see if he couldn't offer anything to help things run a little faster along inside so the doors could open and the women wouldn't catch colds, he promptly pushes the door open and slips inside. Oh... he'd forgotten for a moment about the male Captain. Not to worry though he'd just speak with his own Captain about it, then he wouldn't have to face the man. It's just a shame that Eustace is standing near him, but he could easily be ignored. And Alirien was quite gifted at ignoring other men.
Lightly clearing his throat, he makes his way calmly to the three. He only gives a nod of the head to Alister before zoning in on Eustace, and by default Calla as she is standing beside her, and of course.. female. "Captain, is everything ready? People are starting to gather outside, without the proper attire for standing in the cold." He keeps from mentioning the two men he'd personally found to be acting fools. But then of course they were.

An exasperatingly pathetic sigh escaped his mouth at her response, and he placed a dramatic hand onto his forehead. "I'm not dead, you're not an angel, and I'm invisible. What a horrible night this has started out to be," Rayan stated in a depressing voice, before spreading his fingers apart so he could peek up at the woman with wicked ruby eyes. "The only good thing, I suppose, is that I'm still being held in the lap of a beautiful young woman."
Before he could continue with his usual flirtatious flattery, however, Rayan soon found the familiar cold wet nose of what he could only describe as a canine nuzzle him gently. His first reaction was that Darkheart had found him, and so Rayan jumped up with a surprised (and somewhat girly) scream. But in his haste, he clumsily tripped over his own feet and... fell face first into the snow right next to the young wolf.
Don't insult me. If I had snuck up on you, you'd be missing a limb already. Foolish human.
Spluttering as he lifted his face from the snow, Rayan took a quick glance at the reddish wolf before he burst out laughing -- best way to avoid embarassment, he'd found, was to laugh at yourself. "Well, that was stupid," he said as he stood back up and dusted the snow off his uniform. "I thought you were...something else. My deepest apologies, young wolf." aWith a quick half-bow to the wolf, Rayan turned his attention back to the woman, noticing that he was skimpily dressed (but in a very nice dress, nonetheless).
"I am headed to the ball, miss, and I suspect you are as well?" He took the time to look her completely over, and realized that she was probably cold with most of her (nice) legs bare and without a coat. So he quickly took his own black coat off and offered it to her.

The black and blue headed girl was about to say a retort in turn, but felt her breath hitch as she saw the man’s eyes. Sharp, practically piercing red eyes peeked at her. Her own soft ocean blue ones stared at him for a minute before laughter seeped into them and started to twinkle. “Why thank you for the complement. I’m very sorry that I’m not an angel, but it is a simple fact,” Emi informed the man who found himself face first in the soft snow because of a fiery young wolf.
FlameFrost simply looked at the man with curious eyes. He hadn’t meet a person like him during his time at the fort. Sure, Abigail was a bit clumsy, forgetful and stupid, but she gave off a sisterly feeling towards his rider. This man, it just seemed like he was trying to get away from some… thing, as the man had said. Flame was sure to keep an eye on the New Eve person. The iced wolf didn’t want his bonded being pulled into any unnecessary situations. They already were on the bad side of the Alphas. Well, it was actually Emi who was but either way, it affected him too. Tell him it’s okay, the topaz eyed wolf told the apprentice.
Flame’s beloved female rider nodded her head at his request, but it was ever so faint of a motion. Gratefully taking the offered coat, Emi stood up. Before covering herself, she ran a hand down each of her legs, dusting off any lingering snow. After encasing herself in the warmth, she answered the man. “Yes, I’m headed that way as well. But before we both get on our way, do you mind me asking your name?” The female would probably feel bad if she never got the man’s name. Especially if she didn’t return his coat later.

Rayan had the inkling that something was watching him carefully, but considering the fact that his neck hairs weren't standing on end (which they always were if Darkheart was leering at him from anywhere), he hoped it wasn't the big bad wolf come to get him. Nevertheless, he threw a quick cautious glance over his shoulders, before looking back forward and finding himself staring at the golden eyes of the red wolf. For some reason, Rayan had the feeling that this wolf wasn't too fond of him (it seemed that all of the wolves he came across had it out for him).
Fortunately, Rayan's attention was quickly averted back to woman as she rose and ran her hands down her legs -- an innocent motion, to be sure. However, Rayan's mind was far from innocent and the dirtiest thoughts managed to cross his mind. However, he could tell the woman was young (probably a little too young for him), and he really didn't want to push his luck at this point -- maybe later in the night when he was nice and drunk. But for now, he'd behave himself.
"Oh, how rude of me! I didn't even introduce myself to you," he chided himself with a disappointed shake of the head. "Rayan Delamere, private of New Eve, at your service," he responded with an extravagant sweep of his arm into a low bow, before straightening and giving her a playful wink. "And may I ask, beautiful young maiden, for your name?" Then he bent his left arm and offered her an elbow, all accompanied with a charming smile. "For I would like to accompany you to the ball, if you don't have another gentleman waiting already." Another wink.

Eustace's change of subject had been blatantly obvious. Going from something like her love life to the preparations for the Ball (which was the more pressing of the issues at hand anyway) could only have been interpreted as a major subject change to take the attention off of herself. Eustace might have called attention to Calla's dress or somesuch, but after how long it had been since she last saw her, for all she knew, Calla wore dresses all of the time. That is to say, when she wasn't wearing her uniform. Her attention was called elsewhere when none other than Alirien Ten arrived. It seemed that few people had thought to bring jackets with them. Though there was a lack of forethought on their part, Eustace couldn't help but think that preparations had simply taken too long. In any case, she had already given her okay about everything.
"I guess it can't be helped. If you would, return here after instructing everyone waiting outside to enter," She replied, "I'll have an announcement to make as soon as everyone's inside that concerns you in particular." It was convenient that he showed up just now. If he hadn't, then Eustace might have had trouble finding him. Or worse, he might not have showed up to the Ball at all. It would have been embarrassing, at least, and a bad start to his career. Come to think of it, Eustace didn't know if he knew about his coming promotion. She certainly hadn't told him, but she assumed that his wolf, GoldDust, would have. Then again, maybe he had known before Eustace ever had. LunarFlare had a habit of keeping things from her and for all she knew, he and GoldDust could have been together for quite a while before she ever found out about it.
Looking in the mirror, John Knight straightened his uniform and made sure that not a hair was out of place. He normally didn't put much work into his appearance. Jack would comb it back, using the slightest amount of hair gel to hold it in place, and on the off day, he might shave that constant stubble, only for it to appear again later that day. Today, he didn't see the point in shaving, but he wanted to look presentable, at least. It wasn't as if Jack thought he might find someone there, but viewed it more as his professional duty to attend looking his best. What's more, after his last venture into the dating world had ended in the worst possible way. He could go the rest of his life without another disaster like that.
Satisfied with his appearance, Jack put on a nice jacket and walked briskly from his family home in The City toward the building where the Ball would be held. It was a short walk there, but he was already feeling a bit chilly. And then it looked like they weren't letting people inside yet. With some of the outfits those girls were wearing, Jack was surprised they could stand it. Even with his jacket on, he felt the chill of the wind. Those girls would probably get sick. Then again, Jack had never liked the cold. It kept the centipedes away and for a good reason. It was damn near unbearable. He could appreciate its uses, but he would be damned if he was going to stand outside for half an hour, enduring it. Jack stood impatiently near the doors, already in a hurry for them to open.
Lysander didn't know how to react to Alexis's words. From her tone, he thought that she might be joking, but he could never really be sure with her. He wouldn't have had a problem with her finding someone else. After all, it was only meant to be a fling in the first place. Even so, he'd asked her there first and that she'd found someone else (and so quickly) was a bit disappointing. Oh, was that her date there? Wait. No. "No way in hell," was all he could think to say after Jace showed up. This just wasn't right! It defied everything he ever knew about his brother (not that he knew much at all). Not once had he ever seen Jace with a girl. Not once! And Alexis could do way better than that- that poop nugget!
Maybe that was just his brain in denial, but Lysander simply couldn't accept that his older brother had just usurped his gir-fling right from under his nose. This just wasn't fair! Lysander saw her first! Still, in order to not ruin his chances with any of the other pretty ladies around, Lysander amended, "That is, uh...." Damn it. If it had been anyone, anyone other than his brother, this would have been light years easier to accept. Gritting his teeth, he smiled as genuinely as he could given the circumstances (which turned out to be not at all) and said, "It's such a coincidence that you would be with Jace right after me." He paused. Maybe Jace hadn't told her. "You know he's my brother, right?" It was enough that Lysander had completely missed her question and the little jab about being in White Shadow before him.

╔══════════════════════════╗ ║ πλεαςε λετ τhις νιγhτ λαςτ fορεvερ .║ ╚══════════════════════════╝ It all happened so fast. She teased Lysander, some man came up and acted as though they were a couple, winked at her, though whether it was flirty or telling - she didn't have time to decide, but Lysander had time to decide that it wasn't acceptable. She furrowed her brows momentarily before deciding that it was all fun and games, this man must have known that, why else torture Lysander so? "Ah… I'm sorry, I didn't think the two of you would meet like this! But… Lysander, I didn't think you would mind! I mean… We're just a fling." She said with a slight smirk. She had no idea who the man was, and she felt a bit awkward using him in such a way. But, he must have been fine with it, right? He willingly, and on his own, walked into the joke! She didn't suck him in, he entered willingly and freely!
Her eyes widened momentarily as Lysander spoke after a moment of regaining his composure. "Ah, no I had no idea. Jace," She heard Lysander say his name, "and I hadn't gotten that far in our… Discussions." She said calmly, though she felt a small blush nipping at her neck and threatening to invade her face. The fact that it was his brother… Well, it certainly explained Lysander's first response, and why the man had entered the joke so quickly. When she felt as though the blush was going to take over her face and she could hold it back no more she finally took a step away from Jace and towards Lysander, planting a solid kiss on his lips and smiling, "I'm just teasing." She admitted, grabbing his hand affectionately. It was the correct thing to do with one's date, right?
She smiled, looking over towards Jace, "It's nice to meet you, Jace. I'm Alexis, Lysander's… Err… Well, let's just say friends." She said. She had a feeling the meaning would get across, but if not that was fine with her, and she didn't exactly want to come out and say it. She wasn't exactly sure what to do with Lysander - if she tried to comfort him, would it be crossing into girlfriend territory? She certainly didn't want that in the Academy, and now that she had bonded and he hadn't, it was even less likely! But she didn't exactly want to let him sit there uncomfortably. Oh well, what was done was done, and she felt as though she had acted suitably in the situation. "So, when do you boys think they'll finally let us in?" She asked casually, trying to make a bit of small talk.Ι wαντ το δανcε τhε νιγhτ αwαy

The man seemed nice enough, that much FlameFrost could pick out. Then again, no one was always what they seemed like. Tail swishing against the snow dusted ground, he made his way to his rider, standing next to her. Emi, don’t do anything stupid. Especially when we actually get to the ball, he told his partner. She most definitely should have seen that coming.
A smile graced the female’s face as she stifled a raising giggle. “Private Emi Cross, White Shadow of course,” she informed the man called Rayan. He should have been able to deduct that she did not belong to his fort since the number of riders in both strong holds had dwindled since that one plague that wiped out most riders. He would have seen her face by then if she was a part of New Eve.
“No, I don’t have anyone waiting on me.” Of course she didn’t. Not enough boy candy to go around. That, obviously, was just her excuse for not being the kind of beauty a guy would want to go out with. “And, thank you for, actually, wanting to join me for the ball,” Emi mumbled gently. Her cheeks were lightly flushed from the tempter and she was shifting from foot to foot, gracefully, yet inconspicuously. For the moment, she was still trying to work out how exactly this happened.

Alirien gives a nod, but looks a bit confused for just a moment. He quickly schools that expression away though as he realizes there is still another man around. You can't look even remotely vulnerable around them, never. "Of course, Captain." He turns on his heel to head back to the door, puzzling in his mind for the moment why he'd need to return to that group. Or what the announcement could be. Unless it had something to do with GoldDust's oddly secretive behavior as of late.
She had been acting a little off, to him, the last few.. what was it, weeks? Perhaps the Captain knew something about it that he didn't then. Though it would have been nice for his wolf to not keep him in the dark about whatever this was. Sure she did enjoy teasing him from time to time, but keeping secrets for so long that possibly the Captain was in on? Here he thought he knew the female mind better than that.
He shakes his thoughts away quickly though and opens the door widely. "The Captains say that you are all allowed to enter now." Well, alright so one Captain said it but he didn't need to say it like that. He steps aside to give a nice wide berth for the women standing there to enter first before he heads back over to Eustace, Calla, and regretfully Alister, as requested.

Of course, Rayan repeated to himself. If she had been in New Eve, he most certainly would've come across her already. Then again, he hadn't actually been paying attention to most of the new riders that had come in the past year, which now that he thought about it, he couldn't imagine why. There must've been a few pretty girls...
"Well, it would be honor to join you, and you must save a dance for me," he reponded with a playful grin, enjoying the effect he was having on her as evident from the flush in her cheeks -- but that could've just been from the cold. "So, shall we be on our way before the merriment begins without us?" Rayan continued, once again holding out his elbow for her to grasp.
Too late. Seems like they're letting the little insects in now. I wonder if I can fit through that door...
Rayan mentally froze at the tone of that sadistic suggestion, and started to hurry Emi along. "Don't want them to run out of beer before I get there!" he continued with a nervous laugh, trying to hide the fact that he was in fact rushing to the ball to prevent what he deemed the next apocalypse. Darkheart, you better behave yourself, or the Alphas will have your hide.
The only response he got was the sound of sinister laughter. This can't be good.

It really was too much fun to make fun of his younger brother. A smirk curved itself onto the teenager’s lips as he watched Lysander. But in all seriousness, he was glad that the female decided to play along, even if she had no clue who he was. Which wasn’t surprising since, well, Lysander tended to not speak to his flings about him, his old brother, Jace Kinsley. Mean as it was, it was true. “Another fling? My, my, such a playboy,” the apprentice said, clicking his tongue. At least he used the nice… term to what he referred to his brother as, usually.
“Nah, I’m just chopping at your nerves, Lysander,” he finally admitted after his brother blew up his cover. It was obvious the new fling was very surprised at the little block of information that she had just received. Jace slide his arm off of the female letting her travel back to her date, who she kissed right there. He had to practically choke back down the laugh that threatened to erupt from his throat. Well, she certainly seemed to be the first to have a actually, physically obvious interest in, possibly, becoming his little brother’s girl. Well good god. His brother was actually getting lucky for once.
“Nice to meet you too, Alexis. As I’m sure a smart girl like you picked up on, I’m his brother, Jace. His older brother to be specific,” the teenager introduced himself. He was now surer on his assumption that Alexis had bonded in the cave along with him, Kade, and well, Quincy. Speaking of which, he hadn’t seen the male around the fort that much. “Are you really sure about that? I mean, anyone else might make the guess that you two are an official couple and not just a… well, you get what I mean,” Jace managed to squeeze out before some guy announced that they could all go in. “Well, looks like, now,” he said in reply to the female’s last question. “Couple first,” the male stated in a joking manner.
Still slightly lost in her thoughts, Emi simply nodded to Rayan’s hurrying. Either way, she could tell something was bothering him, but decided against saying anything. “Alright, let’s go,” the female said, laughing in a soft and gentle voice, hoping it would relax the man a bit. If it didn’t, then oh well, she might end up running in heels. Oh joy, what a great way to get around, she thought, her words dripping sarcasm. The only comfort she got from her partner was a laugh, which really wasn’t that helpful.

Finally they seemed to be letting people in, oh god the warmth would be so loved! She swore her toes were going numbed. Of course the bad thing about them letting them into the building was that she couldn't chicken out and just hike back to the barracks. Though at this rate the frost bite to her bare toes wouldn't be worth it.
With a sigh it was soon her turn and Serenity Everheart made her way inside. A noise of utter joy left her at the warmth and her body slumped foreword slightly. Oh warmth, sweet warmth! The others could say what they wanted about her, should they see her, but she was a wuss when it came to the cold. An utter wuss and she'd proudly admit it. And she fully planned on staying the night, just so she wouldn't have to make the cold trip back.
Once her body had returned to it's normal body temp, magenta eyes glanced around in search of a place she might be able to hide out for the night. Near the food of course, as she hadn't eaten much earlier in the day. With another shy glance around, the pale girl moved to make her way further inside.

For a while there, Lysander was unsure of how to respond. Of course he knew that he and Alexis were just a fling. Their entire relationship depended on that understanding. In fact, his entire selling point (other than his dashing good looks and charming personality) was based on that type of relationship. There was no point in acting childish. If he was at the Ball without a date, then Lysander would just have to find some unfortunate (or fortunate as the case may be) single lady to fill the role. "Yeah, but you could have told me you were going with him so I could find another date." Unless she was planning on going with both of them. Threesomes were only good when there were two girls and the fact that that the second guy was his brother made him gag. Lysander wouldn't dream of denying a lady, but in due of all the circumstances, this was an offer he had to refuse.
Wait. No. Seriously? Had it all been a joke? What kind of tomfoolery was this? It was enough that he couldn't react to the kiss at all. Perhaps it was better that way, though. If Lysander was going to kiss a girl back, then he was going to go all out and he didn't want to do something like that in front of his brother. His face contorted into a look of disgust when the thought of the threesome surfaced again. Another gag. Why did he have to keep thinking of that? Ugh! Well, if they were so eager to play jokes on him, then there was only one thing to do. Get revenge! When Jace motioned for the two of them to go on ahead, Lysander shook his head and gently ushered Alexis toward his brother. "Actually, Alexis did bring up a good point. It is just a fling and I would rather she be with someone I know like my big brother than some other sleaze ball," he said, smiling as convincingly as he could. "Treat her nice, will you? I know where you live."
Abigail had a home in The City, but rather than going home, she had gone to find a bar where she could hang out until the Ball started. She certainly wasn't going to wait outside in the cold. Not with what she was wearing. Her dress stopped just above the knee and left most of her chest and shoulders bare. Even her neck was in danger of being numbed by cold since she'd even done her hair up all special for the Ball. In all honesty, she didn't know how she was going to get from the bar to the Ball without getting frostbite. She really should have brought a jacket with her. Abigail never claimed to be smart, but if anything she was practical. She should have known to bring something to keep her warm. Oh well, she supposed her date would have to suffice. The thought made her chuckle. Taking a look at a clock mounted on the wall, she decided that it was about time she left.
It was strange to think that the entire time she was there, Abigail didn't drink. She just sat there at the bar, having a friendly conversation with the bartender and whoever happened to sit next to her. She would have liked to have said that it was because she didn't want to get drunk before the ball or scare off her date with her drunken rambling, but truth be told, she just never got around to drinking anything. That being said, she stood up walked to the door, exiting and making her way toward the building where the ball would be held. It was a surprisingly short walk there. It had taken her longer to get to the bar when she arrived in The City. Perhaps the fact that she was freezing and walking much more quickly this time around was what made the difference. Luckily enough for her, though, by the time Abigail arrived, they were already letting people in. Not seeing her date anywhere outside, she didn't hesitate to take the invitation.
When Abigail got inside and saw Alister and Calla, her coldness was forgotten and she made a bee line toward the two of them, heels clicking on the floor as she walked. There were a couple of unfamiliar people there, who she just assumed to be the Captain and Lieutenant of New Eve. She would have greeted them, but a more pressing, absolutely shocking sight caught her attention. Calla was wearing a dress. "Now ain't you cute? For a second there, Ah thought you were gonna go in yer uniform! But look at that, made up all perty and wearin' a dress!" There was no helping it now. After all that work that went into the way she looked, Calla definitely deserved a hug. Without a second thought, her arms were around the woman and squeezing like she'd never squeezed before. "And don't think Ah forgot about you!" Within another second, she'd turned toward Alister and thrown her arms wide open. She would give Alister a choice this time. Either he was going to give her a hug or she was going to take it.
When the doors opened, Jack walked slowly toward the door so that the people who needed the warmth more than he did would be able to make it inside ahead of him, particularly the girls. As much as he disliked the cold, he was wearing a jacket and some of them were so scantly dressed that he didn't know if they would be found inappropriate or not. When he made it inside, Jack was quick to find a table before all of them were taken. He didn't have a date to dance with and he certainly wasn't going to spend the whole night standing up. He really shouldn't have attended, but really he was planning on leaving after the announcements were made. Either that, or he'd be playing solitaire the whole time. Oh yes, he had thought ahead of time to bring a deck of cards so that he wouldn't be completely bored.
