Echo yelped in surprise as Shock practically buried her in snow. "Shhooocckkk!" she whined, shaking as much of the wet snow out of her fur as she could. "That's c-cold!" Her body heat was melting some of it, making cold little rivulets of water run down to her skin.
This deserved revenge. Echo looked around for a source of vengeance, and grinned to herself. While Shock distracted himself with his victory dance, she climbed into one of the trees above him and perched on one of the branches. "You're doomed now, 'Phim!" Echo quickly bounced up and down on the branch, shaking out a huuuggee pilo of snow into the male.
"Now I win!"

"Well, doy, it's sn--hey, where'd you g--ahhh!" Shock's many trains of thought all ran together as he was finally covered in snow; and completely covered at that!
"No f-fair," Shock whined at Echo, pouting adorably once he'd managed to shake most of it off. "Okay, we're even now, okay?" Shock asked, padding back over to her. Without even asking, he sat down next to her and wrapped his wings around her--for warmth purposes, of course. Of course. Not 'cause he liked being close to her or anything, not at all.
If all her tribe's members were like this, it was no wonder there were so many of them. How could any of them not like each other! Shock certainly liked Echo--a whole lot.

"It was totally fair," Echo huffed playfully. "I don't have wings to blow up all the snow, I had to do something." She giggled at one last little pile of snow on top of his head and used the tip of her tail to brush it off. "There, all better."
The feel of his wings around her surprised Echo, but only for a second. She hadn't expected to enjoy feeling so close to a male, leastways not since Sachio had disappeared. But Shock was warm, and...comfortable. She couldn't help but burrow close to him and take advantage of his shared warmth.

Shock laughed as she brushed some snow away for him, then smiled as she leaned back against him. Her fur was warm and fluffy and comfortable, and he liked it being so close to him.
"All better," Shock agreed, smiling brightly down at her. There was a few moments of happy silence that Shock found he didn't mind, but then a thought crossed his mind. "Hey Echo? Would it be okay if you showed me your Tribe? I wanna see it, it sounds like it'd be a lot of fun," He grinned winningly, hoping that he was right when he thought they were friends--and friends showed each other their homes, right?
But more than that, he wanted to see where she lived, where she'd grown up. Something about her fascinated him.

Echo paused to consider that. On the one hand, Shock was tecchnniically intruding on tribe territory. But it wasn't like Loki had strict rules about people wandering onto the land. And besides, Shock was nice! Loki was her grandfather, he'd trust her judgement on this.
So...it'd be fine!
"Sure I can show you," Echo finally nodded. "My grandfather won't mind, I don't think. And if he's grumpy today and does, Mama will set him straight." Ko snickered and squirmed out of his wings. "Come on, it's this way."
She set off at an easy trot towards the lake, tail swaying happily.

Shock grinned widely and folded his wings behind his back, trotting to catch up with her. Her grandfather, huh? That was exciting! He'd never met his own grandparents, if he even had any, so he was especially looking forward to meeting hers.
"What's your grandfather like?" Shock asked curiously, tilting his head down at her.

"Grandpa Loki?" Echo repeated. "Well, he's not technically my grandfather, I suppose. He took care of my mother when she was a kit, so he pretty much became her father. And my siblings and I certainly pestered him like grandkits do when we were little." She chuckled and shook her head at old memories.
"Anyway, he's one of the Elders here. We have another, but she's never here. Some of the members have never even seen Sahari. Grandpa's nice, though. He's not super stuffy and serious like some of the other Elders. He likes to laugh, but he's really good with advice like an Elder too. He respects people who respects him, isn't quick to fight someone. I bet you'll like him."
Echo easily weaved through the trees until she was closer to the tribe center; it was noticeably getting colder, which was always a godo sign you were going the right way. "I'm sure the others'll be nice too."

Shock kept up with her easily, listening with rapt attention as she talked about her family--they all sounded so nice, he wasn't sure who he wanted to meet first!
"Of course I'll like him, silly," Shock responded with a laugh, pulling his wings closer about him. Was it him or did the wind just get a lot colder? It was probably just him, because he was always imagining things that other people didn't see.
"Is there anyone not-nice at your Tribe?" Shock asked, headtilting curiously at her.

"Not nice?" Echo mused. "Well, not that I know, no. I guess...well, there's Skype. She's pretty not-nice. She's only here 'cause Grandpa Loki doesn't want her to wander off while it's still this cold, she doesn't need to go off dying. She's gotten better, but she mostly sticks to herself. Some of the others are shy, but not mean. And some are just kind of sad these days, 'cause some mates have wandered off in the winter and stuff. 'S not good."
For some reason, Echo really hoped Shock didn't leave. She'd been lonely since Sachio was gone...and now she didn't feel so lonely. She had a feeling if he was gone, even if he'd been here for such a short time, that it wouldn't feel right again.

"Skype. Right." Shock said, committing this name to memory and so that he could be sure to stay away from her. If she was only being allowed there so she didn't die...well, that didn't seem like she was a very nice fox if they couldn't come up with any other reason, right?
Well anyway, he'd be sticking with Echo. Because he liked Echo, and he knew her. So Skype wouldn't matter anyway.
"I'm sorry," Shock answered, ears and wings drooping lightly as she mentioned mates disappearing. That was just so sad. "Well, no need to be sad about it now, right! They'll be happy that you found some new wayward fox to bring home, right? I can bring some excitment if they need it~" Shock said wit ha laugh, his normal grin coming back to his face as if it had never left.

Echo smiled in spite of herself at the sound of Shock's laugh. "Right, I'm sure they'll love having a clown around," she teased. The vixen kind of doubted Shock could really cure everyone's unhappiness-- it was more than just one or two foxes that had left--but that didn't mean he couldn't try if he wanted to.
"Annnyway, here we are," she grinned as she stepped out of the treeline. Before them was the valley with the huge, unfrozen lake. It stretched all the way off to where its tributary, a thin line in the distance, and from there that went off to the mountains on the horizon. "This is where we spend most of our time, except in the baddest part of winter. We stock up our caves in the mountains so that we can go live in them for awhile if the blizzards get too bad. None of the others are around right now, so I guess they're out wandering in sleeping in their own little dens between the tree roots."

Shock had to admit, it was kind of beautiful, in a cold way. But that was okay, because he liked the cold, and this was where Echo grew up and he had wanted to see it, and now he had so he was happy.
Smiling, Shock nodded. "Okay," but then he paused and added, "Oh, if they're asleep in their dens, should we not go down there so we don't wake them?"

"I don't think it'll matter. Most everyone sleeps in the trees right now, for the extra shelter. So as long as we aren't suupppper loud, no worries." Echo nodded and trotted down the familiar hill and towards the lake, tail waving happily behind her.
"The tribe thinks this is where our Modeity is," she added. "The lake I mean. Since it's the only unfrozen thing in the land that's not a hot spring or something. And since the water's still, it sohuld be frozen! Must be something special that keeps it thawed." She smiled simply and went down to the bank, peering at her reflection.

Shock followed, nodding in relief when she said that as long as they didn't shout or anything they wouldn't wake anybody up. He wouldn't want to make anybody unhappy, and especially not Echo's family and friends--and he was hardly ever happy when someone he didn't know woke him up suddenly.
He shook his head to clear it, following her to the lake and listening intently as she explained about the lake. She was right...it should be frozen! But it wasn't! That was so cool that the Modeity lived in the lake...
"That's so awesome..." Shock breathed, joining her at the bank's edge, peering down at it intently. "Have you ever seen it? Your Modeity, I mean?" He cocked his head curiously, halfway tilting an ear towards the lake, just to see if he could hear whatever might be living there or not.
