"....." Well, that was interesting to say. Jadamirei couldn't decide if she was being praised, advised, or slapped in the face by Canoake's words. She glanced up, watching the sky, until Canoake spoke again.
Again, it was an interesting proposition. "Let me see your hands." she said finally. Harpers were well-trained in how to keep their hands; fingers were their instruments. If a Harper lost the use of their fingers, they would have a hard time playing the gitar, the harp, or the flute. They could not write down the music they dreamt of.
To decide if she could help Canoake, or to even know where to start, she would have to see the girl's hands. It wasn't that she cared about Canoake's patterns, but... well, she could consider helping the other girl to keep her hands nice a thank you for the ill-gotten headband.

Coolly, Canoake showed Jada the same hands that she had shown the one called Tofir. The one who acted so indifferent to her. She wanted to frown at that one but refrained. Her nails were just barely past her fingertips though one or two were obviously bitten off in frustration. Her cuticles were poorly kept. Still, she held them out with the thought of gaining something from this alliance.
"I have been working on it. A nervous habit really. But one that is embarrassing and must be stopped." Canoake thought of what she could trade the girl in order to make sure they were even.

She reached out, examining them carefully. They were rough and worn, but not beyond repair. "I have a few things that I could suggest to you." she said finally. "I have a softening cream. A very small amount rubbed into the hands in the evening will protect from the cold air. It will take time before your hands start to reverse any damage though." she frowned. "I could probably get my father to send some for you, if you would be willing to compensate him the marks. It isn't that much. 1/32 of a mark worth of cream will last half a turn, and it doesn't go bad. And I'd suggest seeing a healer for something else to soften them."
She frowned again, thoughtfully. "As for stopping the habit, start dipping your fingers in vinegar once they have started healing. That is how my Masters broke me of the habit as a child." she reached out, stroking her hands over the nails. "I may be able to show you how to do a basic manicure as well. Seeing the positive change may help, morale and all?"

Creams! Just like the lady holders or master craftsmen! Canoake was pure woman and pure vanity at heart. She wanted to look her best, be the best and would make sure everyone knew it. She currently had 5/32 of a mark and some random pretty and valuable pieces of clothe. Briefly, Canoake wondered if there were creams for her face and feet as well.
Continuing to listen, she made a face at the mention of vinegar and kept her face neutral when Jada stroked her hands. It wasn't that Canoake didn't like woman. But they were far more useful out of bed than in it. "Sounds like a plan. As for now, I am sure that there is some random task that I must do that ALL candidates must do. Since it is nearing mealtime, I would rather be serving than having to clean. You would be wise to stick with me. I can get you into the easier tasks and out of the harder ones. I am also very good at getting 'lost' for a while."
Taking her hands back, Canoake looked once more at her hands. Oh yes, she would definitely get some of that cream.
