A Doll Named Mouse OH MAN! I used to live in VA and HATED IT!! Then again, I was multiracial and in Dinnwiddie... You either get hit on aggressively for being "Blasian" or threatened for "forgettin where you came from", which I always found absurd, since my grandpa is Cuban, as are several in my upper family, and many mixed cousins, so I don't see how I owe my existence to the "black community" when I'm mostly hispanic and white... O__o "Forgetting where you came from"? My word! That's the stupidest thing I've heard in recent memory. Even if you weren't mixed heritage, it's your lifestyle, and that has nothing to do with your background. I'm just trying to imagine people of European descent trying to pull that off in this day and age. Now I'm imagining the resulting protest.

Karate kick Cupcake Oh cool Razeasha! You live in my area of Virginia! Norfolk can definitely be a dangerous place and especially if you're not paying attention of your surroundings. Wasn't a student mugged on that campus last year or am I thinking of another school? Students are mugged here about once a month. It's worse right before the holidays. @ Mouse: I'm sorry that people gave you crap. Also, country towns can be worse than cities sometimes, especially if the inhabitants are closed-minded.

You said you studied martial arts for a year, what form of martial arts may I ask? Because I am interested in learning how to defend myself and I dont know where to begin as a beginner. My fiance has taught me a few tricks to bring down someone if they were to try to grab me but I want to learn more defensive maneuvers.

*story time for me!* Okay. Well, lets start with the beginning. I lived near the bad part of Detroit, Michigan (like 1 mile from the famous 8 mile) and i wasn't always standing out. My neighbors (which i knew all of them) were cool and nice. I even had a friend that lived right next door 14 years out of the 16 that i lived there. Then i saw a guy i liked, and that started my whole "gothic revolution" thing. So i lived in a bad part of town and stood out badly. But i didn't mind, because i grew up not really caring what other's thought of me, just my family and relitaves. Then i moved. I now live in a nice city, with nice people as my neighbors (older people, naturally) and no one really bother's anyone. But the kids around here that are like HS age, they are normally and (to me) the worse kind of kids to hang out with. They all like to drink and smoke pot and stuff like that (i never gotten myself into that kinda stuff) and i didn't like it, so i dropped those "friends" right away. Then i noticed that alot of the kids were like total wierdo's. I didn't really feel safe here, first of all, because i am newer to these people, and 2nd of all, because i really don't know people in the town in which i can go to or call and be safe with. That's when i started carrying a pocket knife with me. It sounds serious. And it is. But i know that lolita is a calm way of life, but when you live in a place like this, you can't be certain. When i am out during the day, i am okay with walking alone, but i always check my back. And when i have to go out at night, i always carry my heavy purse and something that i can hit someone with. I never took any martial arts or anything, but one time in gym class, we had an aerobics portion in which we did tae-bo. The kicking high and low and all the punches we did really helped me to learn a few things that i could do to get me out of a tough situation. Ok. i will stop blabbering on now. But its something to consider, like the other said about walking and listening to music and stuff. I do, but i always check behind me and i am normally aware of my surroundings.

The first... and last day I ever wore lolita to high school. I'd worn it all day with almost no problem, just some laughs and giggles here and there, but people were used to me wearing weird stuff. But at the end of the day I'm climbing onto the bus to go home and some dumb a**'d ghetto b***h decides to come in my face and say, "Oh! So your one of those stripper maids!" WTF? Really? Ignorant jerk. She just giggled and walks away to her throne in the back of the bus. I'm in such shock I have nothing to say or reply to that. (Now granted this was when I'd first started wearing lolita and the first time I'd worn it outside of an anime convention, and looking back now I was a total ita but she had NO REASON to say that s**t.)

That's horrible. She wasn't raised right. You don't say things like that to a woman, let alone a girl. It's bad enough that genetics force us to fight for self esteem as it is, you'd think being a girl herself she'd realize just how hurtful something like that can be. Time machine. You need a time machine. Go back in time, wait for her to get off the bus (but make sure you don't reveal yourself to your past self or you'll cease to exist sad ) and punch her right in the face. Better yet, kick her, kick her right in the face. Just ruin her face. Then tell her the lolita are always watching...

My friend lived in a bad part of town, and got alot of trouble... I have yet to adventure out in lolita, but when i do i am with my Boyfriend who is a big 6ft'4 guy. So I doubt i will get much trouble sense i won't be alone and have a scary looking bodyguard who seriously would be hesitate to teach you a lesson for saying bad things toward his "little girl" eek Though if he dresses in Oujisama with me, he will most likely get trouble with me, and the people who 'cause the problems will most likely be hurting afterward. (thinking sense he is in lace, he can't hurt a fly, kinda thing. Dead wrong. ; n ; )
I love him~

Oh wow, that's so scary! I just recently finished my first Lolita outfit after admiring it for a couple of years and finally being able to afford some, so the only time i wore my outfit out in public was yesterday going to my bf's house.
I usually get cat calls and whistles and strange things yelled at me when I just wear a frilly skirt, i can't imagine what I would get when wearing a Lolita skirt. But my friend and I, who are both proud Lolitas, are planning to wear our outfits to school sometime soon. I can only imagine how many strange looks and insults I'll get behind my back for dressing like a "doll."

I think my funniest event was when I went to the final book release of the New Moon series, the 4th book sucked balls BTW. And I entered in the costume contest to win the first spot in line to receive the book. I wasn't in a costume... but I was in lolita and it was better then anyone else's attempt at a costume there so I said why not. When the girl running the contest tried to name what my "costume" was she called me Bo Peep. I nearly laughed out loud but I just went along with it. The end of the story was is that I won the contest and got the first spot in line for the book. Big disappointment. -_-
And thank you guys for the support. If and when I go back in time I'll deff wear lolita. XD Leave a frilly print in her face.
I wore lolita to college a lot and no one seemed to have a problem, and no one bothered me about it so I just hated high school. XD

I know everyone's just joking around, but I just want to say physically attacking someone for saying you look like a doll is a little extreme. I mean, we want to look like dolls. They may mean it in an insulting fashion, but that doesn't mean we have to take it that way. Also, there's a difference between someone making fun of you and actual harassment. There's also a great deal of difference between someone who doesn't know what lolita is asking stupid questions (so it's a fetish thing?) and harassment. That said, I have never been so much as made fun of while wearing lolita. I think that is largely because I didn't know what it was until I graduated high school. High school is largely a "Who can be the biggest jackass" contest. I'm not condoning this behavior, but expecting anything different is wishful thinking. The reactions I've gotten have all been pretty much the same. People smile at me and I get the feeling I made their day a little brighter, or at least a little more surreal.

Well, if you guys think being made fun of for lolita is bad, how about being made fun of for just being yourself?! Not only do i love Lolita, but visual kei and other japanese fashion as well. I got a picture taken of me by some girl in my past school and she put it on her myspace, making fun of me. Not only was that harsh, but also illegal. I got her good. XD But i am not a normal person. I like other different things that not everyone here likes. I don't like following trends or fashion-forward things in the USA, and i definately don't like being "normal"... >.< why should i get made fun of for something that i am and for being something that i don't want to be? I don't think it makes alot of sense. But i have lived with the ridicule and haters, so its pretty normal to me now. Here are a few of "school" outfits that i have been made fun of for:

(This was just a cosplay of Kyo from Dir en grey, no one really wanted to mess with me) XD

And i still get made fun of for my normal look:
I think its horrible, but i also think that the people who make fun of others are just jealous. ^_____^

Wow, you'd fit right in with my crowd. I don't think you're weird at all (or maybe we're just weird too), just artistic. The body is a canvas too. And that cosplay is pretty wicked. smile

You've had good fortune with people, and I really hope it stays that way. People can be nasty, but a lot are kind, so I hope the kind ones are all you'll be exposed to. Some places are a lot nicer than others, thank goodness. And yeah, I think being out of high school helps. The stripper maid comment was actually a form of harassment, when someone makes a sexual jest or insult, you don't have to tell them to stop before it's harassment, it already is. But I totally see where you're coming from, words don't call for physical violence. Don't worry, I don't think any of us would stoop so low as to beat someone up for their words. At least I hope not. We'll save the face ruining for if someone tries to throw us in the back of a car.
