Kenth didn't need Alex to remind him of his role, for the doctor already felt quite uncomfortable the way Zul handled his subject. Theoretically speaking he should not be against two Raevans interacting with each other. In fact, he should be making observations instead of feeling upset. Yet, that was what the doctor felt at the moment. The newly named Raevan, Xuelian, was his subject, yet she certainly did not regard him as her guardian. Furthermore, like Alex said, Xuelian was learning not from him, but from Zul. This made Kenth felt incompetent, and certainly was not happy in that regard.

"Indeed." The doctor replied gravely, though he didn't move. He had noticed from the beginning that no matter how curious and excited he was about meeting his new subject, as soon as Kenth saw her his mind became blank. There was no more urge to do approach Xuelian, as if the female Raevan possessed some kind of unknown repellent that was only effective on him. She was...in short, too brilliant, not in an intellectual way, but from the aura she emitted, like how the shadow always stayed on the opposite side of the sun, Kenth too, felt that he should not get too close to his subject, at least not at the moment.

"I will...get used to it." Kenth continued stubbornly, eyes remaining on the two Raevans. The dark skinned woman knew him well, did she sense his fear too?

The sudden change in temperature around Xuelian's palm when she touched Zul's skin sent a shiver down her short spine. She blinked several times, curious at what the new feeling was. There was no time to feel the feeling again however, as her mentor moved her hand to point at the whole man. Xuelian absently followed Zul's words, repeating them to herself as her hand was led to move. Yet, her mind was stuck on the warmth of Zul's chest. What a strange feeling, Zoo felt weird, but it was a good sensation. If Zoo was similar to her..would she herself feel the same too?

With that thought Xuelian used her other hand, bracing across her own chest. She felt a little warmth, but not nearly as heated as her mentor's. Confused at the difference, the dainty Raevan reached out and placed her free hand on Zul's chest again, shifting back and forth and absorbing the heat until her own palm became just as warm. When she no longer felt a difference in temperature Xuelian withdrew her hand, looking down and her palm and then allowing it to touch her own cool skin. She jumped a little at the change again, then giggled like a toddler, certainly intrigued by her new discovery.

Her green eyes rested upon the doctor's profile, perfectly aware that he was stubbornly refusing to look at her and instead focusing on their Raevans. The irony that their charges would get along so smashingly when they failed at being civil was not lost on her. Part of the notion made her heart ache, knowing she'd wanted to be so close to him. Even now, it was hard for her not to reach out and push his hair out of his eyes or smooth a wrinkle in his jacket. Alex removed her arm from his shoulder and stuck her hands in her pockets, reminding herself to be careful when treading the waters of this particular shore. It still had a tendency to bowl her over from time to time...

"Will you?" she asked, though the question was automatic and with surprise. Kenth? Teaching by touch? The smile that suddenly crossed her features was rueful and self-deprecating. No man could change that much, she was certain of it. Alex shook her head and looked to the Raevans, ignoring the discontent that settled heavily in her chest. "You'll figure it out. Always do." Falling silent for a moment, she rolled her shoulders in a shrug and turned to look towards the door. "In any case, we have a name, which I'll put on the contract. If you have any questions for me - or for Zul, now's the time to ask. I'll make sure you have a sheet with all our current owners and their numbers if you need any help afterwards." Alex didn't pretend for one second that he'd call her if he needed help. That would be admitting he needed help to begin with, and she knew the man well enough to know he wouldn't lower himself to such a position.

The demon watched Xuelian with an intense sort of intrigue, noticing that she had mostly ignored his introductions in favor of - touch? He floated a little closer though was immediately stopped short as her delicate hands rested on his chest again, a motion he did not discourage, eyes of bright blue resting upon her soft features with immense interest. The hands lifted, and when Xuelian jumped at touching her own skin, Zul lost his composure and laughed. It was a type of mirth that came from as deep in his chest as it was formed, still soft with the smoke quality his voice held but earnest and whole. She was entirely too charming!

With a full grin on his face, he looked to the humans to see if they'd noticed, but instead found his woman was looking at the door. That must mean their time was about to come to an end. Feeling the threads of disappointment settle in his shoulders, he wrestled his mirth into a smile and returned his attention to the femme, extending his hand to her again. "Now try," he offered, the temperature of his fingers plummeting. They weren't icy cold - he didn't want to do that to her! - but they were cooler than the sterile room, as if he had put his hand against some cold metal for a time. He was curious to see her reaction to these things, and lamented the fact that he couldn't take her home to teach her, if not just for the sake of seeing her delighted response to all he was trying to impart in their few remaining minutes.

The doctor frowned unconsciously as the dark skinned woman left his side. Under normal circumstances he would be glad that Alex decided to leave his personal space alone, but the situation here was different. Kenth did not know how or why he had the feeling of disappointment in his mind, having focused so much on the Raevans made him forget that he was that close to her. He tossed a quick glance at Alex, noting her rather bitter looking smile. The expression made Kenth’s mood plummet further. Did she not believe him? The doctor signed in frustration, but it was not in his personality to argue back. He nodded firmly, taking a step closer to the two Raevans as if demonstrating that he was making progress toward becoming a capable guardian.

“Of course.” The rest of Alex’s instructions brushed against the surface of his thoughts briefly before disappearing into the back of his brain. He had no further questions for her at the moment, one of the reasons being the lack of doubt that Kenth would meet Alex again, or perhaps, he was looking forward to meeting her again. Of course, the latter intention was without the man knowing consciously. Walking closer to his subject the doctor coughed out loud in an effort to make his presence known.

Xuelian stared at her mentor in wonder as Zul suddenly burst into laughter. At the same time, the corners of her own mouth curved up as well. If there was one thing she learned immediately from Zul, it was that Zul’s current impression looked pleasant to her, and she liked seeing it. Seeing someone smile made Xuelian feel a little warm inside, and it was a good feeling. The dainty Raevan was unaware that she too was smiling and even laughing like her mentor did, though her laughter was much softer. When Zul’s laughter subsided into a smile Xuelian’s expression dropped a little also. She wanted Zoo to smile bigger! Taking what her mentor was offering eagerly in her hand, the girl hoped that the smile could return, but instead she was hit with a sensation of coldness, not just from Zul’s fingertip, but also from the presence of the white haired full-man. Not letting Zul go Xuelian turned, her eyes meeting wth Kenth’s glare. The full-man’s eyes were the same beautiful color as Zoo, but something was different about them, what was different? Unsure, the girl shifted a bit closer to Zoo, looking up and studying his eyes, then looking back to Kenth’s behind the glasses.

“Zoo?” Using the only vocabulary she could remember, Xuelian whispered carefully. “Kens?”

“I am Kenth, your guardian.” The full-man responded in a formal tone. “I am looking forward to working with you.” It was half-truth; the other half consisted of dread of spending time with a newborn female. The words didn’t matter at the moment though, and Kenth was right, the newborn didn’t understand what he meant. Deciding not to waste anymore words the doctor offered his hand to Xuelian, hoping that gesture could resolve the difficulty in communication. Much to Kenth’s frustration though, his subject hesitated to take his hand. She did not hesitate to touch the other Raevan, and even placed her hand on his chest! Instead, Xuelian was looking back to Zoo again, as if she needed his permission.

This was not going to be easy…

Kenth's sudden approach to the Raevans was akin to casting a cold shadow over a warm sunny play date; the way Xuelian shifted closer to him made Zul immediately warm his skin and rest an arm around her dainty back. It was a protective gesture, but less against Kenth and more to keep her near so she could understand: this was who she had to go home with. The demon would not be able to hold her hand beyond the door, which was where she had to pass through once the doctor had asserted his dominance.

Zul's smile slipped a little. If any of the Raevans he'd ever met needed someone to lean on, it seemed Xuelian was it. She was curious, enigmatic and adoring, but there was something so very pure and naive about her that spoke loudly to the demon. With her minty eyes on him, he nodded to Xuelian, extending his own hand to take one of hers. "He belongs to you," the male Frei said kindly, moving their joined hands and carefully resting her delicate digits into the doctor's palm. "He will take care of you."

In silence, Alex watched the three, her heart sinking a little. The innocent words and motions all tore at something squashed deep in her memory, feeling like an old scar was just sliced open effortlessly. The woman shook her head, wordlessly turning and propping the door open, leaving the room to gather the paperwork for Kenth. She had nothing more to impart to the white-haired man...nothing professional, anyway. It just seemed safer to get out of his way and let the two do what bonding they'd need to.

"Good luck with that," the Italian muttered under her breath to the empty hallway.

"Belong..?" The teal Raevan tilted her head, puzzled by the new word. She peeked at Kenth quickly before looking back to Zul again, still uncertain about the gestures that both males were making. Quietly she allowed her hand to be led toward Kenth's. The moment her fingers came in contact with her guardian's sent a shiver down to her short spine. Kenth's hand wasn't cold, not compared to Zul's anyway. However, it felt different, the texture, the tone...coupled with the blue glint the doctor's eye gave off. They were similar...yet opposite to what she felt with Zul.

She blinked, her small fear transforming into curiosity. Xuelian squeezed a little on Kenth's hand, finding his skin smoother and more similar to that of her own. "Kens." She whispered to herself, eyes rapidly moving back and forth between Kenth's face and his hand.

The doctor stiffened at her touch and visibly swallowed. He didn't think he'd be so nervous, but his body betrayed his expectations. He had expected to take the Raevan's hand, but instead of shaking it the dainty thing decided to take the gesture with much more intimacy, however unintended. He could not remember the last time he had been held like this, and it partially frustrated him, as it seemed that Xuelian was already beyond his imagination.

Well, he would have to teach her to fit into his expectations.

Taking her hand with his other Kenth forced the Raevan's hand to change position so that it appeared that she's shaking his hand, Kenth shook it firmly. "This is a greeting, hello, Xuelian." Using the few words she knew, the doctor hoped that he could at least get a start on the education.

The familiar word triggered a reassuring smile on the girl's face. She mimicked Kenth's motion and shook his hand back. She then took the liberty and extended her guardian's hand to Zul, as if asking the male Raevan to shake it as well.

"Hello Kens, hello Zoo!"

"Yes," the demon confirmed, bowing his tri-horned head with a light smile to the newborn, "belong. You'll understand in time." Zul watched the aloof doctor for a moment, noting the change in the grip on her hand and the greeting he shared. It was so much more formal and distanced than the other first 'hello' he'd seen -- even his own had been filled with closeness and touch. For one brief moment, he couldn't help but feel bad for the dainty femme; she seemed like she'd be happier in a warm embrace than with a simple shake.

But she was happy now, and to Zul, that counted for something. Gingerly taking her hand and shaking it as asked of him, he chuckled his greeting in the soft curl of smoky tones, "Hello, lovely."

It wasn't the best start, but it was something, and that would have to be good enough.
