well, i when i was little my sister borowed the movie from a friend and we watched it together.
i didn't get it back then. (i was still new to anime) i was like eek ... ninja because i just didn't understand
but, then after a few years later i started thinking about it. i would remember some of the scenes and i slowly wanted to see it again. i was disapointed becasue i when i was little i never picked up the name cause i wasn't interested at the time.
i would ask my sister "you remember that movie that we watched?" i would describe all that i could remember, but she didn't know what i was talking about. she didn't get what i was trying to explain cause i could barly remember it myself sweatdrop
then finnaly after about a year, i was looking through her anime movies bacause she said that i could borrow some. i came accrose Akira and it didn't phase me at all what it was.
who knows how long after, i finnaly looked back at the akira dvd, considerd that it might be what i was looking for, then puting it back because (im an ideat) it still didn't phase me.
after who knows much more time, i finnaly figured that it could be it. i probly kept douting it so much cause when your little movies tend to be more exadurated in ones mind.(like i remembered there was a secen whare someones body was deforming into something else. but since i was little it differed what i thought/think of it today.) soi put that into concederation and finnaly watched it.
and sure enouph.....it was the movie i was lookin for. im so happy that i finnaly found it(last year)becasue the movie is so awsome! i mean, i was little when i watched it for the first time and didn't understand a thing and was weirded out by it. but, it still stuck in my head after all those years, and i finally got it mrgreen

At the age of 8 i saw a clip of it while sneaking out of my room to see my uncle and some cousins watching it...It was at the end when Tetuo bloats up.
I swear, i nearly crapt my pants
i was so scared.
But then, after years of video games and horror movies to harden my inards, I watched it again...and fell in love with it. heart

I got the movie from my friend for my 19th b-day of 2005, she said that if you are an anime fan you have to watch this, so i did and fell in love with it. when I watch the end of it, i was shouting that there has to be another one. and I found posters for an Akira 2 and 3 so I am so confused... xp

I learned about it through my uncle one summer day he told me that I should really see the movie because it would put a whole different perspective of anime in my mind. So my birthday came and he had given me his copy for my fourteenth birthday biggrin so a couple days later I began watching it ( and when I mean began, I mean it took me like four days to complete since I had been so busy at the time) and when I finished the movie I was like WOW that's awesome! So a little later I began to read the manga and the manga is just as good ( if not better ) then the anime itself.

I first caught a glimps of the DVD at a local rental store while browsing throug the Horror/Sci-fi section. At first I thought it was set somewhere in the mountains or somewhere really snowey. This is probably because the cover was the one of Kaneda walking towards his bike and the grey of the concrete was so light I mistook it for snow. Not to mention the back cover had a picture of the explosion and I mistook the buildings for a forest of pine trees. Anyways, I read the synopsis on the back and I was mildly freaked out by it.
I finally decided to go ahead and watch it. Truthfully I was actually kinda scared. When I finished watching it I didn't really know what to think of it but I forced myself to like it. I later asked for it for my birthday, seeing the DVD boxset in a shop somewhere. I didn't really touch it untill we had to watch a film for homework (It was music, we had to pay attention to the background music) and then I found I actually did like it. And since then I bought the manga and now it's pretty much my favorite series.

Greetings!
Oddly enough, I am only a new recruit to the world of Akira and Tetsuo. I have not even been able to get hold of the manga yet and have only seen the animé once. I hope to improve on this lack of knowledge, and to be fair this it part of the reason that I am here.
I found out about Akira from the Gaia member Master Tetsuo and their wonderful roleplay Cataclysm in Barton Town. Joining a fan-based roleplay with no knowledge was something that I had done before, but I realised very quickly that bluffing wasn't going to get me through this time!
So I'm here to learn, really. And to thank Master Tetsuo and Rhiannon Bloodeye for all the work they have put into training me in what I needed to know...

I first learned about Akira through a friend back in my freshman year of high school, which was the 2001-2002 school year. (In fact, it was October of '01) She was telling me alal about it, & wouldn't stop talking about it in gym class.
It was only about a week before Halloween, when my friend & I stayed after school. We went into the library, & she put in a VHS copy of Akira in one of the VCRs that the library had. We watched about an hour of it, & when we had to go, she showed me a few random scenes, including one of Tetsuo during the Tetsuo/Kaneda fight, just before the military used SOL.
A week later, on Halloween, she came to school dressed up as Tetsuo. She showed me the battle scene so that I could compare her costume to Tetsuo. She pulled it off really well. She had the cape with the tear, & fake blood underneath... The veins on the face.. The outfit.. She had even worked on her hair to get it to look like Tetsuo's!
It wasn't until April of '02 that I finally got to see the whole movie. While wndering around at an FYE, I found it on VHS. It was $20, but I bought it anyway & watched it that night. I've been hooked ever since.
And earlier this summer, I FINALLY got around to buying a DVD copy. My VHS copy is worn out. xd .:: ::.
