Fallon agreed with all of Quinn's points and nodded to show it. "It's a lot of fabric for you," she said, reaching out and lifting the girl's skirt. "With your height, a short dress might look nice. Pair it with great shoes, and you would be anything but swallowed up by it." Even that dress might be nice if it were cut above her knee. Granted, some girls weren't big on short dresses. Fallon was a bit particular about lengths, but for prom, she knew she wanted a long one. She had the height to do it too.

When Quinn began to evaluate her look, Fallon spun to look at herself in the mirror. "The fabric is too shiny," she said, touching at it. "I prefer a more matte finish." Personally, Fallon preferred her bodice, but she understood what Quinn was saying. When Quinn poked fun at the skirt, Fallon smiled. "I like more order to a skirt. Even ruffles, if there are ruffles. But I'm not really a ruffly kind of girl."

Turning around, Fallon glanced at herself over one shoulder. She wanted to prod Quinn for more information, but she wanted to be careful about it. "How long have you been in Destiny City? I only just came here from France." She pointed at her mouth. "No accent, I know. I was born in DC." Her eyes flickered back to the mirror.

"Maybe," Esen responded to Fallon's comment regarding her best dress choices. "I was never big on short skirts, at least without leggings - or really, being a fashionista at all." Fallon might have found this ironic, from what the bright-haired girl had been saying about the dresses, but her knowledge was because Esen had certainly paid attention in art classes, a favorite before she ever had science classes, when she was younger. She was a big fan of the color wheel until she discovered science. As for the dress being bigger than her? Because she wore it, she would know, Esen thought while touching the material herself.

"Better than a suit of armor, though, Fallon," she spoke in response to the issue Fallon had with how well the dress had the ability to reflect light. "I wouldn't normally wear ruffles either; they're a nuisance for what I do."

Fallon created very-decent-quality dishes over hot stoves and ovens, while Esen dealt with chemicals in glass to observe their reactions. Both hobbies had their risks, but even if they didn't, neither of them liked stains in the first place. Extra fabric in the way meant, if not higher unnecessary risks, more space to stain. They were similar in that aspect.

Taking a quick look through what she was able to see reflected past Fallon, Esen mentally groaned as she backed up, groaning in reaction to the dress. Her voice was still apathetic. "I'm sure my father probably went to France at one time or another, but mother has a store to run. I'm surprised she's kept it running for so long... I think it's nearing twenty years, according to her. Considering its close distance to the Academy, well, that's your answer... oh." Esen's footsteps, while light, could be heard going back to her dressing room, though the curtain did not close. Rather, Fallon probably overheard a few beeps, and a one-sided, unemotional conversation.

"Is Rica Saylor there? Thanks. ... Mother, it's- ... Nothing's wrong, I wanted to know if you could pick me up later? ... okay, then. Hope to be there soon, see you then."

A beep ended the phone conversation, and Esen poked her head out. "I'll be trying on another dress. I'm not sure if I'll have time for both of the others, because I have to go soon. DCTA isn't the most convenient public bus service I've heard of." Then the curtain swiftly shut.

Fallon wasn't really sure what to make of Quinn. She seemed pleasant, but also not. Something rubbed the cinnamon-haired girl the wrong way. It was something about the "suit of armor" comment. What did that have to do with anything? Fallon said she thought it was too shiny, and Quinn told her it was still better than a suit of armor. Was that a joke? Was Quinn making fun of her? After a few moments of quiet contemplation, Fallon surmised the girl was talking down to her.

From Barren Pines, Fallon recalled that Quinn was some kind of science-y person. It had never been a good subject for Fallon, though it was considerably better than history. She liked the order of experiments. She liked the idea of controlled conditions. It was the working with others that bothered her. But most of the people she knew who loved science tended to be pretentious, or at least she perceived them that way. It was a bit ironic as Fallon herself could be quite pretentious too.

When Quinn slipped back into the dressing room, Fallon stayed in front of the mirror, eying herself. Suit of armor? She was still confused. Quinn was on her phone, and more and more, Fallon convinced herself that Quinn had meant to condescend to her. She couldn't explain it, but once the decision set in her mind, she couldn't get rid of it. Fallon slipped back into her dressing room and got out of the dress, moving back into her normal clothes.

Yes, Quinn must not like her. Quinn was trying to make fun of her, even if she couldn't figure out precisely how. Maybe she was lying about not remembering Barren Pines, too, just to upset Fallon? It was just a feeling, even if it was paranoid and presumptuous. Fallon didn't intend to stick around to confirm the feeling. When she felt any kind of misgivings, her gut reaction was to run. And so she did. "Don't worry about it," Fallon said, collecting her purse. "I should go. I have a meeting at school soon." Fallon was already out of the dressing room and heading for the door. "Take care, Quinn." The door shut with another chime, and Fallon disappeared without another word, brows furrowed over the girl who couldn't remember Barren Pines and who gave Fallon off-putting feelings.

The armor comment had to do with the fact that, since they were usually made of metal, it would likely have been very shiny if it were polished. It was not meant to make her feel bad; Esen was simply opinionated.

As for the phone call? She was calling her mother to check if she could stop by the store later so she didn't have to take the bus. It wasn't happening, so she had to take the bus home - there was no choice.

She heard what Fallon was saying through the curtain, but she was struggling with the dress, so Esen didn't respond to Fallon leaving the store.

Was it coincidence, or was there some other reason? Esen was telling the truth. Fallon only said she had to do something at school...

Those thoughts ran through Esen's head as she took herself out of the difficult dress and changed into her original clothes. It wasn't like these dresses were worth missing the bus.
