"Whoa, kid," Shade said as he opened the door. "This is an old door, you know? You here for Antony? Right now he's at work, but--"
The shirt black skinned man was dressed in a pair of baggy, ratty looking jeans and a T-shirt with Hendrix on it in psychedelic colors. He wasn't wearing socks or shoes, showing he had been lounging around during his weekend, and there was an open beer can in his hand.

Had Kash really been serious? This guy was supposed to be the answer to all his problems? Really? Touda frowned up at Shade who, short though he was, still towered over the child.
"Mister Shade..." He almost choked on the word Mister. Touda didn't call anyone Mister. He didn't believe in titles of respectability. "I'm here to see you, not Antony." It didn't even occur to Touda that Shade would have no idea who he was, having never actually seen him before.

But he knew the voice. "Touda?" he said, things clicking in his mind. "What happened, kid? Come on in, we can talk while I put some shoes on." He walked into the old house, putting his half empty beer on the nearest table and heading for his room. "Where are we going?"

Touda grinned with pleasure that Shade had somehow known who he was, but his expression sobered almost immediately. He waited until Shade had put his shoes on before talking.
"It's my sister. She was taken. To another place. And I have to get her back but the mirror doesn't work anymore. Kash from the magic shop said maybe you could make a door for me?" He spoke carefully, not wanting any misunderstanding.

"I can open a door," he said as he finished tying his shoe. "But I can only open the door if you know where it goes to. Do you know where she is? Is it another planet? Another dimension? There's a lot of places out there, Touda, and finding one just because a mirror connected to it once isn't possible without more information."

The boy's shoulders drooped a little - he hadn't thought of that. "I saw the arm of the thing that pulled her through the mirror..." He started slowly. "I know the place is called the City of Lost Angels, and that it's hidden from the eyes of divinity." Touda shrugged helplessly. "Thats all I really know. Nobody at the place I'm staying talks about it much outright." That couldn't possibly be enough information. Touda ran a hand through his hair in anxious agitation.

"There's lots of places called the city of lost angels. But it sounds like the people you live with have a clue about where it is, even if they aren't telling you, right?" he said.
He ran a hand over his face, seeing trouble on the horizon. "Look, I'll go with you to talk to them, how's that sound? Maybe if I'm going with you they'll be more willing to tell you where you're going." He lifted a hand, bringing a finger down through the air. Where his finger went a hole appeared, bursting open as if he had torn through the fabric of space.
He reached into the hole, pulling out a piece of paper and a pen. "Let me write a note for my kids."

Touda shook his head. "Oh, no... we can't go talk to them." His eyes widened a bit. "They... they wouldnt be helpful. There has to be another way. What if I brought you something of my sister's? Could you find out where she is that way? Or if I showed you the mirror she dissapeared through?" His voice bordered on desparation.

"Is there anyone else you know of that might have a clue where she is?" Shade asked. "Anyone at all."

Touda shook his head miserably, fingering the two charms around his neck. "Thats it, then? Theres no way to get there without someone whose been there before?" He sighed. Church would kill him if Touda brought Shade around asking about the City. He'd certainly never let Touda go there himself.

Shade frowned. "Well, we could go planet hopping," he said reluctantly. "But that would take quite a while, and you might guess wrong."

Touda shook his head. "I dont think it's another planet. It's like heaven. Or hell. They exist but they dont, you know?" He searched for an explanation but fell short. "Like another dimension or reality or something."

"Then you have no choice," Shade said seriously. "Because the two places I haven't been to are Heaven and Hell. And trust me, I don't plan to go to either unless it's for a very good cause and a very short time." He jotted down a note then stuck it through another hole. "That should do. Now let's go find someone that can help us."

Touda's shoulders slumped slightly and he chewed his lip in thought. "It wouldn't go well if I brought you to their house. They'd get mad. What information do you need so we can get there? I can find it out and then bring it back to you." This would be less speedy but would at least save him the uncomfortable job of explaining Shade. Church would definitely not appreciate that.

"Coordinates, any places that are joined to it, whatever you can find out, find out," he said. "Then bring it back to me."
