Barnaby could appreciate that philosophy. It sounded a lot like his own, in fact, only his didn't have the 'study your hardest' bit in the front.
The redhead let her finish her lunch, working on his in a comfortable silence. An apple, a swig of kiwi strawberry fruit juice, and the remainder of a poptart from this morning and Barnaby was raring to go!
His answer to her question came a little bit quickly, but he tried to keep his face as open as possible. "Here's good. Lunch, free periods, whenever." The idea of going over to a girl's house (even if it was just to study) was definitely one of those things he didn't want to think about. Well, that was only a partial lie. He just didn't want to think about going to Ellie's house. If this was the kind of girl she was, the redhead could only imagine what kind of parents she had. The whole thing just reeked of disaster, and he'd done way too much tempting fate recently to think he'd be immune from this.
"I got work and stuff after. Don't think you wanna do this kind of stuff over the phone to a pizza place," he added almost as an afterthought, realizing that there was a small chance he had hurt her feelings. Ellie had suggested school as the other option, but girls were weird about things like that. Sometimes they only gave you an option just to make you feel like you had choice.

Ellie, hurt over something so stupid as having a guy over to her house? Nawww! His preference had been school, and the moment he voice such, she had nodded her head. There was no change to her cheerful expression, and as he added the small explanation about quizzing over the phone, she had started working on draining the rest of her water bottle of its contents. Naturally, she nodded her head, which caused the water in the bottle to slosh around before she set the container down again.
"Sure, no prob! Guess that makes sense 'bout work!" If anything, she was completely sympathetic. The blonde leaned her head upon a hand and looked Price in the eye. There was nothing shy about Ellie. She was very direct about things.
"I guess lunches at school work, though, I might ask ya t'meet me at the auto shop. That way I can work and study at the same time." She chuckled lightly before adding on "Maybe I can teach ya some stuff as well! Y'know... t'repay ya fer helpin' me out!" Figuring everything had been settled, she tucked her water bottle back in her lunch bag, then retrieved her DMV booklet. The girl unzipped her backpack and quickly stuffed the booklet inside before looking back to the redhead with a grin.
"Well, I guess I'll let'cha get back to yer homework!" Rather easily, she hopped back to her feet and rounded close to Price, extending a clenched fist for a friendly fist-bump in departure.

Phew. It looked like he was off the hook this time. There were some times in his life when he was thankful for boyish girls like Ellie. Though he found interacting with them extremely awkward on his part, at least they didn't make a habit of concealing their true intentions. With the blond he could be ninety percent sure that whatever she said she meant. One always had to leave an extra ten percent uncertainty, especially when one was dealing with girls.
"The autoshop's fine. I usually get Wednesdays off, so if you're there then that'll work." Hopefully there would be other people there. The idea of having one-on-one time with a girl still made him antsy. Maybe it was because he didn't like having to stay in one place for too long against his wishes. Barnaby had never liked feeling contained. At the mention of lessons in exchange for his help he grinned. "Depends on what you're teaching. I'd listen to some bike stuff." She may be able to give him a few tips and tricks for the Scarlet Bandit, which was something he wouldn't easily pass up.
For a second the redhead looked between the clenched fist and Ellie, eyebrows slowly crawling up his forehead. Did she really want him to fist bump her? Really? Barnaby's nose almost crinkled, but he seemed to think better of it and gave the blonde a very gentle (and probably somewhat awkward) fist bump. Just because she shook like a man didn't mean he had to treat her like one.
"Later, Ellie. Don't study too hard."

Her mouth twisted slightly in puzzlement at the rather lame attempt at a fist bump. "Wow, yer bump is weak!" That was Ellie, just saying what she was thinking. Shrugging it off, she followed up with a simple "Well, if ya wanna learn bike stuff, then sure. I'm also up fer teachin' care stuff too, if ya actually care!"
Not wanting to linger too long, she waved a hand before jogging off. She called back a simple "See ya!" while weaving through a small crowd of students. It was far from graceful, and it almost seemed as if she was in a rush to get somewhere. As suddenly as she had appeared, Ellie vanished, leaving Barnaby Price there to sort out his thoughts and his math homework.
