"Hhmm.." she said, sticking out her bottom lip. Her arms were still folded, she wasn't quite finished pouting yet.

But Leafia was the type to never stay mad for very long. Just after a few moments, her eyes with bright with ideas. "Oooh, we could explore the beach! There's always neat stuff washing up.." Smiling, she place a finger upon her chin. "I think I saw a beach cave a little ways up, too! We could go check that out." She was standing on her tip-toes, excited as to what was to come.

Hem was glad the other girl wasn't mad anymore. She liked pranks to make her laugh not make people mad... or was that it?

She listened intently and smiled. "That does sound fun. Okay!" With that Hemlock walked to the shoreline and began looking to the ground. Her toes kept getting splashed with water, but it was nice. Just the amount of water she liked.

Leafia happily followed after Hemlock. "Ooooh, lookit that!" she pointed out a small hermit crab with a spiral shell crawling ashore. It crawled passed them, ignoring them. It left funny little tracks in the sand.

There were bits of little shells everywhere half buried in the sand. Leafia began to scavenge through some of them.

Hemlock watched the crab for a long while. It was interesting to her. She had never seen something like that before. She was used to looking at plants not other forms of life.

The girl then looked to see Leafia getting shells. They must have come from those creatures. That was odd.

"Oooooh, lookit this one!" She held up a purple and blue spotted scallop shell. Leafia continued to scavenge through the sand, throwing bits of broken shells aside. She would dig a little and then move up a few inches to a new spot.

As she moved up to a new location, she pricked herself on something sharp poking out of the sand. "Ouch!" Leafia sucked on her finger a bit. "That hurt.." she pouted, but her attention was soon drawn back to the beach. She began to carefully dig out the object and soon discovered what she had hurt herself with. It was a small chunk of a white porcelain plate or bowl, with intricate pink and purple flowers hand painted on it. It was quite pretty.

She turned it over in her hand, admiring it from all angles. Turning to Hemlock, she held it out for her. "Here you can have it!" She said, smiling.

Hemlocked watched the girl did and find shells. She looked at them herself. Many were very pretty even if some had been broken. "Very nice." She said as she picked up a white broken one.

Hemlock looked at Leafia's finger once she cut it and then the bowl she had pulled out. "Are you okay?" she asked first. "Oh yeah? Thanks." She said as she took the plate and then inspected it.

She nodded. "Mmmhm!" Although it had hurt, it wasn't serious - it didn't even break skin. "You're welcome," she replied, smiling. "Sometimes you can find really cool stuff that been washed ashore from boat wreckage and stuff.." She paused a moment before beginning again. "Oh!" she gasped, "One time I saw a message in a bottle!" She jumped up and down excitedly. "But.. I couldn't read it, so I threw it back."

"Oh yeah?" Hem hadn't thought about where it had come from. In an odd way she had thought about it being from a really large crab. This made the girl giggle to herself.

"Really? I wonder what it said? I wonder if the person ever got help or whatever they needed." That was a fun thing to think about.

Leafia shrugged. She had never thought of the message as a cry for help, she had always romanticized it being a note of love. Two lovers trying to communicate over the giant expanse of a ocean..

She shrugged once more, clearing her thoughts. "I think I remember the beach cave being just a little ways up here. Let's go!" She grabbed Hemlock's hand and began pulling her forward.

Hemlock was then pulled along to the cave. She didn't worry to much about the bottle as she knew she didn't really need to. "Okay, is it scary?" She asked as she looked ahead.

"I'm not sure," she turned while sprinting, causing her hair to blow in her face. "I've always been too scared to go inside by myself!" She stuck the tip of her tongue out.

It was just a little ways further until the cave was in sight. It was where the sand met the forest - a rocky outcrop with rich, green forest grass growing atop of it. Where it met the sand looked like it had been dug out by water erosion. To view the cave from the side looked as if nothing was there at all - but when they rounded its face, the rocky walls and sandy bottom begin to slope downward, creating a tunnel that slowly sunk beneath the earth and ran under the forest.

Leafia stopped at the mouth of the cave, and peered down inside. Light from the sunlight lit part of the tunnel until it was all completely swallowed by darkness. "Are you ready?" She turned to Hemlock, her eyes wild with excitement.

Hemlock walked over to the cave and starred up at it. It was dark and a bit spooky. Sure, she could make darkness and all, but she liked light. She was mostly plant after all.

The girl looked to the other with a head shake and gulped. "Okay, I guess so." With that she began to move forward into the darkness of the cave. It was slightly damp inside, which is what she first noticed.

As the pair walked further in the tunnel, the sandy floor soon brought way to uneven rock bed. Moisture dripped from the ceiling, creating little puddles of dark water in the spaces between the rocks. Large roots and vines jutted from the tunnel walls and ceiling, as if they were trying to break free from the soil. They were gnarly and dark and were homes for cave dwelling insects.

Leafia took all this in as best she could. It was quite dark, and although she could partially see, her eyes were taking some time adjusting. She turned to Hemlock. "How well can you see?" her voice echoing slightly against the rock.

Hemlock looked around. She could see a little. Maybe that was because of the darkness she was able to use? Maybe it helped her vision a bit. "A little. I wonder if..."

She made darkness, right? Or was it more that she moved it around. Moving it to where she wanted it? With that thought in mind Hemlock tried to move the darkness in front of them so that they both could see. She wasn't sure it was working. "Is that better?"
