"Well I...I..." Diona was actually tripping up. He had a point. What if she (and her cousin) were the weird ones. She didn't have too many examples of pae, what if she was supposed to be like him? Her lip pouted as she looked at her feet and perhaps a missing tail, having a tail would probably be pretty sweet. "Oh yeah... cool things..." she said sadly as she got up and started walking away from the beach sort of slumped over. About 15 minutes later she came back with a pinecone. "Do you have these?" she asked him, she hoped not.

If Toli had been a bit more emotionally perceptive he might've stopped Diona to ask what's wrong. But he isn't, so he just sits on the bank and taps his toes together until she gets back. He looks at the pinecone. "Hm, no, I don't think so. Cool! What is it?"
He goes to take it from her to look at it more closely, but a sharp edge pokes him and he drops it with a yelp. "It bit me!" he exclaims, looking from it to Diona and back. "....COOL!"

"Its a pinecone and care-" she squinted as he yelped in pain "-ful..." Diona giggled though when he shouted cool. He liked pain? She was pretty sure that meant he was insane. "They fall off trees and look..." she picked the pinecone off of the ground and pulled a seed out from in between the leaves. "The seeds can fly" she dropped the seed and watched it flutter slowly to the ground.

"Woooow," says Toli, hypnotized as he watches the seed twirl rapidly toward the ground. "That's sooo pretty...." he says. "Do it again!"
He tries to think of something equally nifty to show her from his underwater world, but nothing would work that he could bring to the surface.

Diona smiled, excited that she had found something cool, she thought it was cool too, but she didn't know if he would. "Alright!" she exclaimed excited to do it again. She slipped out some more seeds and put one in the boys hand. "Here you can try!" she told him as she dropped one of the seeds again and watched it twirling.

Toli tosses a seed way up high and watches it flutter down. He giggles madly at this seemingly magic seed, clapping his hands. "Man, this is the coolest thing ever! Thank you for showing me this!"
"Hey, hey!" he says. "I know! I wanna show you something I got in my room at home. Can you swim?"

Diona watched the seed he threw up into the sky and then smiled proudly. Yes, she had found the coolest thing ever. She was so proud of herself. "You are welcome!" she replied. Swim...? Uh oh, they had somehow gotten back to that problem. Her ego was so high right now, she didn't want to deflate it by saying she couldn't swim, but what if she said she could and then ended up sinking when she tried to. Diona would just have to tell the truth. "No, I can't swim, I only been in the water up to my knees" that was as far as they could go.

"Hmmmm," muses Toli, tapping his chin. "Well see, I have a pet snail that I wanna show you, but he can't come out of the water. But he's down deep where I live. How come you can't go in past your knees? The water won't hurtcha."
[His power is he can give non-waterbreathing Pae air to breathe underwater, but he's gotta breathe into their mouth to do it. /mwahaha
He knows he can do it but it only lasts for a few minutes at a time before he has to do it again. xP]

"A pet sn-ail?" she wasn't sure how cool that would be, there was lots of slimy, stinky snails crawling around on the ground up here. "I know the water won't hurt me." She frowned. "I just can't swim that is why I don't go deep." Gosh, how many times did she have to admit that she couldn't swim.

"Well maybe I can teach ya!" he exclaims. "Swimming's easy once you learn...although I never really had to learn...at least I don't remember learning...." He trails off, tapping his chin.

"Well okay, we can try that." She had really wanted to learn how to swim anyways. "Its not too cold is it?" it wasn't summer anymore so she didn't know if the water would still feel as nice as it had. He never even had to learn how to swim? "You sure you can teach me? You won't let me die?"

"I won't let you die!" he says earnestly. "We're like friends now or something, aren't we? And friends don't let friends die. Besides, check this out," he says, showing her the palm of his hand. There's a rune branded on it. "I found this box a while ago and it had a bubble in it and when I touched it, it popped and gave me this thing. And now if I think about it hard enough I can make you breathe underwater. But I don't wanna unless we hafta. It's gross."

"Yeah okay, we can be friends." Diona agreed with a firm nod of her head. Plus, it sounded like he would let her die if she chose not to be friends with him, oh no. Diona looked at the boys hand curiously. "Did that hurt?" she asked him, it sure looked like it would have hurt. She didn't understand how a scar could make her breathe underwater, but this kid was already weird so any more weirdness made sense. "So are you going to teach me or what?"

"Teach you to swim? Swimming is easy! Come on, I'll show ya!" He crawls back toward the lake and dives in. Instantly his legs meld back into his natural tail. He wiggles it comfortably.
"First we gotta see if you get a tail too or if you keep your silly toes."
