And no, books written by the show's writers do not count as canon. If they couldn't be bothered to put it in the actual show, then too bad for them.

I couldn't agree with you more.
I notice that a lot of people who find the books cannon, they seem to hate the idea of looms and try to forget they exist.

My guilty pleasure is bringing it up among book fans... sweatdrop

Sadly, no. While just some of the books are amazing stories and worthy of a TV show, only few get that chance.
Because it's in book form it's easy for a new writer to come along and dismiss it later on, not so easy to do that when it's on TV. So anything wrote in books has the chance of usually being we-wrote in TV Show, in later years. It could be Sydney Newman's book titled "True History of The Doctor" (I know it's not real) But it would still sadly be non-cannon.

And in the mist we all get lost.
