I haven't seen the movie yet but I heard in Japan many of them were very upset that chinese people were used and not japanese people.

And little to no japanese people were used which is rather ironic

i love japanese and chinese movies! there is just something about the lighting, and the artistic quality of the movies that just stuns me.

I am planning to see it this friday with one of my best friends who should join this guild soon also. I just finished the book and I dont think I have read a better japanese book in my life! It had be completly addicted from the first page. I hope the movie is just as good.

As to the Geisha= whore thing ... well I have personal experience with that. I was a geisha for halloween although the costume was more of a robe then a kimono! It didnt even have an obi! Anyway when I was a geisha everyone (even slected teachers) thought I was being a whore! I got in quite alot of yelling at people moments then. Also when I was reading the book everyone was like "omg youre reading a book about whores!" once again more yelling at ignorant people!

I thought it was kinda of bad. It didn't match the book to well. It was like a summary done by someone who read half of the book really quickly and made up some parts. Characters were taken out of the story all together and for others, there image was totally wrong. (One was supose to have only one arm but had two). There was very little explaining, some things seemed to have happen for no reason what so ever. It was very dissappointing. The begining of the book was taken out all together. I guess if I hadn't have read the book, I would have enjoyed it alot better, but because I had, I was very VERY dissapointed. The book was much MUCH more enjoyable.

And I think an American wrote it. ninja Actually, I'm pretty sure it was a guy, so I'm not sure if it would classify as a japanese book since the setting was in japan and about a japanese person, but a japanese person did write it...Just saying. domokun

I saw the movie last friday. I was mad that they took out the beginning and changed alot. The basic plot line was the same but intricies that made the book so interesting were not added and it made me kinda mad. They added that fire and it didnt make much sence to. The book had no fire. It is also said in the book that a fire in an okiya is disaster. The okiya survived the fire in the movie! gah! oh well I can't change it can I?
