A little taken aback by the rudeness of the other doe, Webweave paused a moment before ending her story.
"Well, Mother Swamp was not pleased with his cruelty, and his disregard for the other kimeti. She worked some of her magic on him and put a sort of spell on him. This spell made him completely addicted to his reflection in his favorite reflecting-pool. So much so that he could not bring himself to leaving the water's edge. He spent the rest of his life, stuck in that one spot, unable to tear his big brown eyes away from the surface.
It was there that he died, and in his place, grew a beautiful white flower, one that rivaled the rest. This flower, named after the foolish buck, to this day grows along reflecting water and lilts towards the surface, as if leaning just a little bit closer to have a better look."

Ohh...that Narcissus, thought Streaked-Sky. It was one of her favorite flowers, and it accented her coat nicely.
"I suppose if he got a flower named after him it was worth it. Stuck with nothing but watching yourself, the most beautiful kimeti? It's not so bad! And then getting a flowered named after him..."
She thought about it for a little bit. She'd probably be even more beautiful than the Narcissus, knowing her.
"Thank you for that lovely story!"

Webweave held her breath, hoping that perhaps the other doe saw the wisdom in her words, but it was all in vain. She sighed a little when the other doe responded. Oh well. It was worth a try. Webweave could see that there would be no point trying to convince this doe of anything other than what she already believed, so she just responded with, "You're very welcome. Perhaps one day you will see more to that story than glamour and fame, but don't lose any sleep over it, dear."
She dipped her turtle shell in the water just once and then piled her three feathers into it, ready to go. Looking back at the other doe she politely excused herself, "In any case, I must get going now, so I will leave you to your water-gazing." With that, she gathered her shell and went back the way she came, wondering if anything would ever strike sense into that doe.

Streaked-Sky wasn't worried about losing any sleep over a silly story a strange doe told her, except for wondering what kind of a flower she would be.
"So long, then! May your day go well!" At least she had manners!
Now, back to looking.
