@Morgey: Seriously woman! That would've been like, teh bestest username ever! Yay for my version going into someone else's personal canon! =D Actually, this just occurred to me, that maybe the reason Malik thought the will of the pharaoh seemed like a reasonable culprit (and therefore Isis and Rishid didn't tell him otherwise) was because he had been taught all his life to follow his family rules for the sake of the pharaoh. Then, the day he happened to sneak out, the day he and Isis happened to finally break a rule, his father is killed. And a spirit tells him it's the will of the pharaoh. To me, that kind of seems like the pharaoh punishing Daddy Ishtar for not making sure well enough that his kids followed the rules of the clan. And yes, Isis didn't believe destiny could be changed until her duel with Kaiba. Oh, that's right, there were servanty-beings! I think I'll go with the family theory, personally. That would add a power motivation along with spiritual motivation for Daddy Ishtar being so adamant about having a son; perhaps if he didn't have a male heir, one of his brothers would be able to claim the spot of clan leader for their own son. Plus it makes more sense to have a good amount of more distant family down there, as has been pointed out, so you wouldn't have to rely on having a daughter and a son every generation. Besides, when Malik inherited the tomb, what would they do with Isis? Just let her out as an adult to tell the world about their family secrets? No, she would just keep living down there, eventually become Aunt Isis to Malik's kids. So yeah, I don't think Malik and Isis were meant to make sweet, sweet love; Malik probably just had to marry one of his cousins or something. XD Poor little incest child. Love that heartwarming lesson. XD
@JK: I also like Pandora because the Na'Vi live on him. *gets shot* Yeah, I need that adrenaline pump as well. XD S'why all I've done for my portfolio so far is figure out what I need to do and pick out the works I'm gonna use. I know I won't do well at putting the thing together and writing up all my statements until the last minute. It was high school when I first discovered how awesome pressure was to make things better. I procrastinated on my first essay and got a B in this one really tough class. I was determined to improve to an A on the next, so I worked really hard on it and didn't waste any time and all of that and... I got a C. I tested it a few more times, and decided that I do better working under pressure. Well, at least with things that involve writing. I think Isis starts using the Tauk right after Malik takes the Rod. And I think the reason she doesn't use it to change things is because she's a very logical, undetermined character. XD She probably thought through exactly what Morgey said, and figured there was no point fighting destiny. But I mean, she did do something about it, except what she did was exactly what the Tauk told her to do; give Kaiba Obelisk and have him start Battle City. I think she just isn't a willful enough character to try and take matters into her own hands, and I think she honestly believed it was impossible to change destiny. Somewhat boring? Of course, but at least it makes her a bit unique compared to most characters who can predict the future. Yeah, but I sincerely doubt that most people who get split personalities have their hair stand up like a Super Saiyajin and get a little glowy eye on their forehead when they go into it. XD Oh, that's a really good quote too! XD ******** I Never Actually Learned s**t, that's so true!
@Morgey: Sounds like an interesting essay. =D I believe I asked long ago, but what is your major?

@Kits - If you believed that the will of a spirit could strike down your father because you were bad wouldn't you (a) assume you deserved it and (b) be afraid to challenge it? I'm just saying, if Malik rationally justified it, he probably wouldn't have been as likely to irrationally challenge it. It seems more likely to just assume him cruel, you get swayed into believing him just it's a lot harder to make him a villain.
And maybe they wouldn't necessarily have ended up together, but in generations in which there weren't cousins, or there wasn't a line up of the right genders, it seems probable that at times they would have siblings marry. I mean sibling marriages actually wouldn't be an uncommon thing for an Egyptian culture. In Ancient Egypt it was policy amongst the royal line, cousins would be a secondary option if there weren't siblings directly descendant from the pharaoh. That's one of the things that came up in my Ancient Near East course a few years ago. Yet unlike in Europe where interbreeding led to all these defects, that wasn't an issue in Egypt. Granted that was even earlier in the time line, and possibly attributed to fewer mutations of the genetic code at that point.
I didn't discover procrastination all that much until HS. I usually did all my work in class while my teachers prattled on. Exempting Honors Chemistry sophomore year, and AP Bio and AP calculus senior year, I was rather lazy and just settled for being the top of my classes with no effort involved whatsoever. My senior English teacher was the one who finally pushed me, forced me to work against myself rather than just rest on I was so much better than everyone else I was earning As by default. He was a somewhat bitter man, and I completely resented him at the time, but now I wish I'd gotten that kind of influence earlier in my life. Ah well. If I knew then... smile
It makes her different, but it's hard to appreciate "unique" when it is - as you said - boring.
Yea, and I think most people who have spirits possessing their bodies get taller and experience a voice change when the spirit takes over, hahahaha. I mean seriously, even Seto, doubter that he is, should really have been more questioning of THAT feat.
Hahaha, I like FINALS, although I'd like to say I could take some pride in the fact that I do actually learn things, and remember most of my material come finals - and for a significant period thereafter.
@Morgey - haha, Kits asked the question I avoided for some reason. Although I assume if you are writing on burial rites, I can rule out O Chem and Quantum Physics right? ^_~

See, what you're saying makes a lot of sense for a normal human being. But this is Malik. This is the guy who would be more pissed at the will of the Pharaoh than afraid, and would seek revenge, no matter how ridiculous it was. He's the type of guy who would rather die trying than not try at all. Why else would he go to such extreme measures if he wasn't that determined to begin with? And I don't think Malik assumes he deserves anything bad until he realizes he has a homicidal split personality. Too arrogant. Not to mention, all he was was a kid that tried sneaking out for some fun for one day in his life, and then his father is dead. Maybe someone who absorbs what she was taught all her life would believe she deserved it, like Isis, but Malik just... was so against his clan's rules that I think he would feel unjustly wronged. But of course, it's not like it's canon that Malik thinks the Pharaoh punished his family. XD Just a theory is all. Well yes, of course there would be times when siblings would be put together. XD But even with a clan that follows its traditions from ancient times, by modern days I would guess that there's been enough mutations in the gene line to start causing problems, and to avoid this as much as possible, hopefully they would first go for cousins rather than siblings. I mean, the crazy was definitely beginning to show with Daddy Ishtar after all. I'm just gonna hope that there was a female cousin for Malik chosen out, because I am not a fan of him and Isis together. XP Yes, teachers like that were nice in high school, because dammit, if I had stayed as arrogant and didn't try as much as I did back then, I would be so screwed in college right now. Haha, poor boring Isis. XD At least in the manga the height didn't change... >_>;; But it's still pretty obvious! XD And how can no one notice when Bakura suddenly has bunny ears? Depends on what the finals were for. Like art history? Feh, I've forgotten it by the final, then I have to restudy it, remember it for the final, then promptly forget it again.

Well yea, but that's what I mean, he's not normal, he's just emotion fueled and arrogant, and he wouldn't bother rationalizing it at all in the first place. I'm just saying it's not likely he'd link up daddy getting struck down with him sneaking out. Daddy was struck down and that's it, no need to question further - which was one of my original gripes with Malik, everything is just face value and he DOESN'T question things.
Hahaha...well I mean if the clan was down there for centuries, never polluted by what's above (we'll say they didn't find and take in babies often, and that they never bred with them), then they weren't likely to be exposed to mutations, so it would still probably be fine for them century after century. I mean there may be some things, but it's not a guarantee. And yes father and child Malik were both mad - in different ways and to different agrees - but that's not necessarily genetic. Not sure what exactly either suffers, hard to diagnose in bits. ((Another instance in which that "normal shrink" mentioned on the RP character survey thread would make for a fun appearance)). But yea, I'm not a fan of Malik and Isis either, which is why I had always avoided bringing it up...until now ~_~.
Yea, wish I'd had more of those teachers, I probably wouldn't be so wayward now. Ah well, I'll figure my life out eventually...I hope razz .
Seriously! I mean come on Kaiba, that's just TOO much denial there. Hahaha, silly people not noticing bunny ears... rofl
Umm, after the first couple of quarters of college (a period in which I'd like to call "the shame" hehehe) I stopped taking Calc and Chem - I liked the former, hated the latter, wasn't very good at either. Everything I took from then on I could comprehend and retain just fine, I do have a rather good memory. And even in calc/chem I could remember a lot, it's just hard to retain what you never understood in the first place ^_~.

The idea that it made perfect sense for it to be the will of the Pharaoh because that's what he's always been taught seems so obvious, and yet it never occurred to me. I guess it's just hard to realise how very insular the Ishtars' world was. I'd thought it was silly to just accept it, yet it would be the obvious explanation for him. Good point. =]
The sibling marriage thing was to ensure that power stayed within the family, which actually ties in with what Kitsune said about Daddy Ishtar not wanting any cousins or anything to become the main... line. It might explain why he was so dead against Rishid doing the initiation as well, because what with him not being blood, it wouldn't be too difficult to contest him. Although I admit, I have no idea how adoption was viewed in that culture, so I may be talking bollocks. Though, they've been very insular for so long, it's not unreasonable to think they'd be suspicious and unwelcoming towards new people.
Okay, this'll be gobbledygook. I kind of think maybe Daddy Ishtar and Malik are not so different, except Daddy Ishtar responds to the inherent suckiness of the situation by becoming obsessive about making sure it hasn't been for nothing, and Malik responds by saying "no, just no". Malik had a best friend in Rishid, his father didn't have that. There was someone to be there whether or not he stuck with the family the family for one, and not the other, so Malik was the only one with the choice. Because turning your back on something like that can't happen in a vacuum, but leaving was obviously conceivable although difficult. I don't know how likely it is, but I tend to think that Daddy Ishtar has just gone stir crazy from it all and is determined to make sure their duty is carried out to the letter to prove it was worthwhile because deep down, he's not happy either, as well as for the sake of the duty itself. But that might be stupid, idk.
I don't have anything to add to the rest of your conversation immafraid. =[
And re:degree. We don't do the major/minor thing, although you can have a joint degree (I knew a girl who was doing ancient history and Japanese. I was actually tempted to ask if she liked YGO, but I never had the courage, aha). But I'm just doing ancient and medieval history. It's pretty cool, I'm also learning hieroglyphs. This has taught me that the ancient Egyptians were dicks whose language was developed specifically to annoy me.
Oh, and *shoots Kitsune*

Yea, I'm not sure how adoption works either, but I definitely see it being too problematic, in a culture that is all about blood.
I guess with Daddy he just seems like any person in an extremist religion/sect who does not question it. Whereas Malik is opposite that. I agree in that he developed his own belief and does things like "choose" something else. Although I don't think that Malik is any less in a vacuum, since Rishid himself also embraced that culture and didn't really try to sway Malik away. Because of that, it seems mostly artistic license that allows Malik to think the way he does, because realistically, he has no basis himself. He has a friend, but a friend committed to life in that oppressive mind set.
You should ask, it was weird the people I found where into anime and such, who I wouldn't have expected, after being in college for several years. And even those who aren't, generally don't care, they might even be curious enough to talk to you about it anyhow. Anyhow my friend's school is like that, she goes to this liberal arts school in WA that doesn't have set degrees. I'm not sure how much I'd like that, but it works for her so yay.
You could go for Cuneiform? Similar to the type of language as glyphs, but less complex. Hehe had to learn a few things for my Ancient Near East course, tons of ways to reference water. Did an ancient/medieval history minor. I studied Ancient (Attic) Greek instead, now that language was such amazing fun. Mmm...ok don't want to keep prattling on about languages because I will so shutting up now!
Haha...oh no...Kits!!! Hehehehehe

Do they explain how Malik even got the idea to leave? It just seems strange to me... it's such an isolated environment, you wouldn't have much variety and everyone else was so dead set on sticking to it.
I dunno, I'll try to write this post again when I'm sober. >>
My friends at sixth form found out I liked it, and they thought I was lame. Although I showed them abridged, and they liked that, so there's hope for them. Sheesh, that seems like a lifetime ago.
I only really persevered with hieroglyphs because my tutor reassured me I could switch if it was too hard, and I'm a stubborn cow. I can't stand hot weather, so I'm never going to go to Egypt anyway. =P
I want a course like that. Spent most of the first semester reading about the Near East instead of anything relevant to my modules, and it was interesting. Although, the moment it became something I had to do, Greece and Rome would far more fascinating so... yay sods law.

Well that was my point, I don't think they do, and there is no logical assumption that can be made. It is isolated, he may not like it, but most people even when they are unhappy with what they have just get up and seek out an unknown.
Hahaha, nice...drunken posting is always fun.
Haha, yea, but unlike high school, they don't ostracize you for liking "lame" things.
I can't stand hot weather either, though I'd kind of like to go to Cairo someday, probably the only place on the entire continent of Africa I'd even consider.
Yea, of the Ancient history program at my school, people in general liked Rome and Greece better, and they are a lot richer and more diversified, but the Ancient Near East was rather fascinating as well.

@JK: Mm, good point, but at the same time, it seems far simpler to rationalize something so entirely coincidental (especially when something so tragic happens, people often want to find out "why" it had to happen, not just who caused it), than it is for a hothead to rationalize why he should be afraid of someone who he's pissed at. But so many mutations also happen just randomly when copying genes. If a parent was to have a gene mutate, then passes on that carried gene to their offspring, and those offspring were to marry, then they both could pass on that gene to their offspring, and suddenly there's greater mutation... so while I think it'd be less likely for there to be insane family mutations over time in a completely closed-off (though inbred) family, I think overtime, the effects could still start to show (like in Daddy Ishtar!) I want all the YUU*GI*OU characters to talk to our normal shrink. Ah, see, I'm quite the opposite. XD I usually don't have trouble learning concepts (like in calculus or chemistry) and applying that, but i have a terrible memory, so when I need to remember specific words and such, like in history classes, I totally fail. XP
@Morgey: Ooh, that's another way to look at it, marrying siblings to keep the power even more isolated. But... well, that still hints more towards Malik/Isis, so I think I'll choose to believe that they weren't that strict on keeping power in the family. Malik/random female cousin works better for me! =D;; I like bringing Rishid into that too though, doing the ritual. Never thought of that either, but it makes sense. So maybe Daddy Ishtar wasn't quite so crazy into his beliefs and more just wanting to keep his bloodline in control. Haha, way to give some depth to Malik's father. XD I really do think he was intended to just be one of those crazy guys who mindlessly follows their duties, but I like your way better. It's also nice to give such a 'supposed to be disliked' character similarities to his own son, even though Malik is one of those well-liked characters. But I could see him having similar dislike to their situation, and maybe that's where Malik gets it from. I wanted to minor in Japanese but my adviser was stupid and said that art majors can't minor in anything but art history. I don't know where he pulled that from, but a year later another adviser suggested minoring in Japanese and I told her what the past one said and she was all "WTF?" But by that time, I would have to take more classes than I could fit into the rest of my four-year deadline to keep my scholarship, so it was a no-go. XP Maybe I'll get a second degree in Japanese some day. *bleeds on floor*
@JK: I do agree that Rishid wasn't anymore of an inspiration for Malik to leave by being an outsider, but maybe instead he was by being someone who was blindly loyal to Malik. It wasn't so much about having someone to disagree with the clan with him, but just someone to follow him no matter where he goes or what he does. That's a powerful ally, someone who will leave the clan with you without a second thought. Most people I've met in college weren't necessarily into anime themselves, but they don't really give a damn when they hear I am. I think by that point in your life everyone realizes it's stupid to make fun of people for being different. Ha, I remember learning some Cuneiform in high school. XD Fun stuff that was.
@Morgey: I'm starting to wonder if the clan environment was really as isolated as we're thinking it was. I mean, obviously they didn't let outsiders in, and obviously Malik wasn't allowed out. But Isis, on the other hand, seemed to know what she was doing when she snuck her brother out. Either Isis had already been sneaking out in the first place (highly unlikely with her personality) or she had been allowed to come out in the past. I'm thinking that maybe only the ones intended to be clan leaders aren't allowed out at all. Like, obviously Isis isn't going to be going outside to play all the time or anything, but perhaps she and other non-leading family members are occasionally sent out to get food and such? Malik could've very well heard stories of the outside before deciding he himself wanted to go. People are lame for thinking YUU*GI*OU is lame so there.
@JK: Ahahahaha, finally I am granted an advantage over you classy people with being raised in the desert! I can totally go to Egypt and feel right at home, while you two stay where you are to avoid the heat and only dream of going there to meet Malik and the camels! *laughs arrogantly* But really, I'll probably never go. XD I'm not much of a traveler.

@Kits - Well I just don't think rationality played a part period, which is the majority of my point. I mean the point to being a "hothead" is that you don't rationalize. It's what defines hothead, action without thinking.
I don't think any of the Ishtars have genetic mental disorders though, every symptom they have/possible diseases implied are all environmentally caused, which has nothing to do with genetics whatsoever. And while mutations are random, something new has to be introduced to instigate the mutation, whereas after thousands of years of nothing altered isn't likely to happen - unless you have multiple cases like Rishid that are then allowed to breed into the gene pool (though it's assumed that isn't "allowed," but what's custom and what's done aren't always the same thing). I mean that was what the problem in Europe was, mutations were already in the gene pool, so breeding within that gene pool repeatedly was just making recessive traits more prevalent because they were more likely to hit on both parents. Genetic coding doesn't evolve on it's own with the same rapidity as something like a viral strand. It needs an influence.
Concepts I'm fine, the conceptual was not my weak point. It's equations and formulas that were my Achilles heel. I mean standard equations were one thing, but the thing about calculus and chemistry is that there were a lot of "theories," where you had to create the equation yourself, and that I couldn't do. I couldn't translate theory into formula, once I had the formula I could maybe understand how it came out of the theory - but I couldn't get there on my own, and that's the majority of what's required. It's why I was much better at natural than physical sciences, I was very good at biology. It was less "solve" and more "understand."
@Kits (regarding what you said to Morgey) I don't like the idea of Malik/Isis either, so I'll just be of the position - upside to the revolting. Because a family living under the precepts of an Ancient Egyptian culture is very likely to be that strict and blah!! ~_~
That sucks about the minor deal, a lot of times minors and majors AREN'T related, people who are good at a specialization do that because they are lazy, but most people opt for something that will give them diversity. Like my friend who majored in Genetics minored in Music. Both my major and minor were in liberal arts, but very different fields, majored in Creative Writing while minoring in Ancient/Medieval History. I almost could have done a Greek minor too (in addition to history), but I started Greek senior year so I would have had to stay one extra quarter to get the upper division course (you need one). An extra 2 - 3K to finish a minor wasn't worth it (totally wouldn't have minded the work, darn money!!).
@Kits - Yea, although I think if his father "hadn't mysteriously died," he wouldn't have left anyhow. I think his father's death more than anything is what gave him the ability to find an out. Yea Rishid going with him made it comfortable, he didn't have to start off alone, but on it's own I don't think it's a main motivator, I don't think he would ever have asked Rishid to go with him under optimal circumstances - possibly because he'd assume Rishid would try and convince him to stay.
It is stupid, and I liked college because the people who don't grow out of that belief, well...they aren't exactly college material now are they? I had particular fun explaining what yaoi was to several of my friends, most aren't into it themselves, but they got a kick out of hearing me talk about it, and browsing through my bookshelf from time to time. They especially like Y-con stories, it's just so different to them that it's entertaining. Not to want to get into themselves, but just morbid curiosity into the life of their weird friend smile .
Cuneiform is indeed fun stuff, I want to learn more! However bettering both my Attic Greek and French, and learning Latin, German and either Hebrew or Arabic (both if I can make the time) are much higher up on my list. We'll see though.
@Kits (again responding to what was said to Morgey ^_^) - I think while it might be plausible people are allowed out, I don't think talking about out would have been allowed - especially around those who aren't let out themselves. It is foreseeable that it would breed disparity - like what happened with Malik, and would most likely not be encouraged. Although as someone so close to the core of the family, I doubt Isis would be allowed out, and I think her know how is more artistic license than anything, because in theory a clan that is that heavily closed would not allow themselves any sort of ingratiation with mainstream society. And obviously they do let outsiders in sometimes - like with Rishid - although I think in reality that would have been highly frowned upon too. I doubt a very high level of research went into ancient clan rites before the manga was written though.
People are lame period...myself included, and so proud I am... razz
@Kits - I don't like camels, and I'd have absolutely no desire to meet Malik. I do prefer cold (which is why Europe is much higher up on my "to travel" list, though that does include the Mediterranean), but as far as heat goes I'll take desert any day. A vast part of Africa is jungle, which I would not like. In theory it's beautiful, but in practice it would be humid - and I HATE humidity. If I have to take heat, please, make it a dry heat.

However, it's not as if hothead never rationalize, so it could still be a possibility that Malik considered that, which is really nothing more than an interesting thought/theory in the end. Ah, really? I remember learning about random mutations that happen when specific genes copy themselves, but maybe I'm thinking of a different scenario. XP Oh, putting theory to equation is one of the easiest things for me. XD;; Oftentimes I can learn the theory relations and how to solve the equation just by seeing the theory itself, the equation, and then the answer. Saves a lot of note-taking space. And I do okay in classes like Biology, but that's more on the parts that are more logic-related, like figuring out who will inherit what with certain types of traits, rather than memorizing cell parts or anything like that. Oh wow, that's really nice, your minor language system. D: My school doesn't support minors very well, so not many people actually end up doing them, because it's almost as much work as double majoring. I'd totally minor in Japanese if I only had to get to one upper division course... but I think it's always best to minor in something to help diversify your skills as well. Oh, that's true. I definitely agree Malik's father's death was his big reason for leaving, but Rishid definitely made it easier. Oh, it is the most fun explaining our weird culture to other people. XD Like most of my close friends are nerds, but they're more video game and tabletop game nerds (programming majors) than anime nerds, so they often don't know about a lot of it. One of my friends though is kind of into it, like not where he thinks it's hot, but he thinks it's funny and can totally understand why girls like it. Like he once kissed a guy at a party, but did it so that two girls would take off their shirts and make out in return. XD But I got this yaoi card game called Slave of Mine, and the two of us played it and it was so much fun, because you would use seme cards to lure uke cards to your side, and would also use temptation cards like a video game handheld and p***s enlargement surgery. XD He had a blast learning about those kinds of jokes. Ugh, screw so many languages, I'd be happy to just become fluent in Japanese someday. But because so much artistic license was taken with Isis's knowledge, it makes it seem more likely that artistic license was also taken with the strictness of the clan, and therefore made it plausible that Malik learned a bit of the outside world. I mean, logically, if Isis knows enough to get around out there, and she's willing to sneak her brother out, she's probably also willing to tell him stories of it. Giving Malik's character development reasons to want to leave seems more on what Takahashi Sensei's priority list would be than making sure his clan was accurate, especially when considering how they brought Rishid in and everything. Awww, camels are awesome. XD And if I got to meet a YUU*GI*OU character in real life at all, even if it was one I hated (as long as I was guaranteed not to get killed or anything), I'd totally take that opportunity, because I mean, come on! That is just like a dream come true. XD But I definitely agree about the heat. Humidity is horrible, dry heat I'm fine with. That's how Arizona always is.

Yea, but even when they do rationalize it's rarely rationally. I'm basing this on having seen my best friend at work *snicker*, no wonder she likes Malik so ^_~. As Malik's entire cause was essentially scapegoating, it's more probable that he didn't put that much thought into it. Because if you think you tend to question, and as Malik's motivations were so flimsy to begin with, the more consideration they are given the harder it would be for them to continue to hold.
Well it's just changes like that, more evolutionary changes that bleed into a pool, take an extremely long period of time, centuries, millennium. Unlike viruses/bacterium - which can mutate within days. I mean it happens, it's just mutations unprovoked would be rare, especially mutations that would become germline (based on hereditary). However, again everything about the clan system being closed off would imply that (a) they wouldn't understand genetics and (b) ritual would trump genetics anyhow. So even if things started to show, that wouldn't change rite. I mean medieval/renaissance Europe, looking at history it's pretty clear that some things were going on, and thinking on it inbreeding is obviously the cause. However at the time such things couldn't be proven, and custom is usually what is most important. Even if a major mutation reared up in the Ishtar line, ritual would probably not be changed. Malik and Isis would still have to marry and produce more tomb keepers. As weird as that would seem to us, it's just the norm.
Well seeing the theory and then the equation is one thing, I'm saying solve the theory. I can't solve theories. I can solve equations sure. It's translating theory into formula that loses me.
Attic Greek is also a "dead" language mind you, I can't say all language minors only required one upper div course. You learn a lot more vocabulary, grammar, etc in year 1 of Attic Greek then you do in say year 1 of French. Because half the class is not dedicated to pronunciation and aural recognition of a dead language. This is not a conversational language. However, minors in general are suppose to be a flavor of something, not a mastery of it. I don't know how many people did minors at my school either though, it's not like the encourage you or even point it out to you. It's just most people have heard of a minor and do the self investigation to see what's required of each minor. Generally a minor (a liberal arts one anyhow) comprises of 5 courses, and what's required within varies. My history minor required 5 upper div courses, 3 in one area of emphasis. I did medieval/ancient - and then went to the complete opposite ends of the reservoir for the last 2. One was on the Holocaust the other on High China. The latter was really fun, the former not as much. It was more an "emotional" analyzation of the Holocaust, which I did not like.
Yea, most of my nerd friends are comic/online rpg gamer nerds (i.e. WOW fanatics). And indeed it's more they think it's funny rather than think it's hot or anything. I'm totally fine with them thinking it's funny, sometimes it is funny. Your friends experience sounds like my guard party, haha. Granted the guys who ended up kissing had no guarantee they'd get to view any girl on girl action in return (though they did).
That game sounds AMAZING, where did you get it? *wants*
I wish I could be content just becoming fluent in one language, but my personality type is so...I dunno. I guess I just have a myriad of interests and hobbies, but it kind of keeps me from ever really specializing/maxing out anything. I'd much rather learn one language to fluency, but I'm more likely to learn 10 in part. Hopefully I'll at least get one or two to fluency rather than JUST a plethora of parts. It's one of the things I resent about my grad school apps. Sure I have A LOT of things on it, I'm a very versatile candidate. I just really don't have any one area I shine in, and I think the lack of that one strong suit, something in which I have tons of awards and accomplishments to display, is rather crippling.
That's what I'm saying, discussing how the clan works, in theory, that is all entirely wrong. Which is why I just said the whole thing is probably just artistic license. And it's true, Malik never would have made it into the story if there was actually accuracy to any of it. Rishid would have been left to die, Malik would have done his duty and that would be that. It's what makes discussing Malik more difficult than other characters, because everything is just nonsensical. There is no logically. Both his personality and his history are utter chaos. I guess that's one of my problems with him, there is no foundation to hold onto. He's not logical, but that's because his entire back story and footing are not logical. So trying to pull anything more substantial than "he just is" is almost impossible. It's why I just like him. As is his existence makes minimal sense, I can't love him, because he'll never be enough. However I can't not like him, because he's interesting. And I can also not hate him - and just find him interesting in what's dislikable - because of the same reason I can't love him, there is no foundation. He is a sea of contradictions and fallacies and it's frustrating and blah!!! Makes my head hurt. So he's damn lucky he's pretty for all the grief he causes me ~_~.
razz
Eh, camels spit, they don't smell so nice, and they just have a mean look about them. Malik is insane and developed a split personality that tries to kill the people he loves, and he on his own develops vendettas against people he only knows of. IF he existed, I'd rather not come to his attention at all, so no, I would not relish that opportunity. Granted, I wouldn't want to meet Seto either, he'd probably be mean because I have minimal merit to someone like him, and that'd make me sad. Because I love him and would hate to be condemned as worthless!!! So I wouldn't want to meet just any character, it wouldn't go well for me. And I need things to go well.
So I'd probably want to meet Jounouchi or Pegasus. The former is one of the few characters I'm interested in who'd also probably get along reasonably well with myself. The latter would probably make himself interesting to anyone, would patronize me (which I have to say is not something I mind), wouldn't try to kill me (as I have nothing he'd want and he's not one for random mayhem), and would be pretty the whole time. I also would like to meet Ryou. He'd be nice, and he'd be pretty, and I think he's probably the one I could get along with the most. Granted I don't know that for sure, because as was stated on his thread, we don't get a lot of him. However I can at least guarantee he'll be pretty and sweet, and that'll be enough for just a meeting.
And now I'm completely off topic, so I shall end this.

Ahaha, you really have a friend who's as irrational as Malik? XD I used to have a friend who was kind of like that, but she tried to act like she was the rational one of the group, and that she knew the most and thought things through the most. But she didn't. She was a compulsive liar and was always starting fights for no reason. We finally just stopped being friends with her when she was making peoples' lives miserable, and then she went off and got knocked up. Twice. Ah, I see, I see. But wait, no, I don't want to see. XP No more discussion on Malik/Isis baby making please! Guess everyone has what comes easiest to them in school. Solving theories is just as easy as solving equations for me. Oh, that makes more sense then. Still though, I've been told that my school specifically works to discourage people minoring. I'm not sure why, but the requirements for earning a minor are still insane. Most of my friends managed to sway away from WOW a bit. XD Like they still play it or used to play it, but none of them were ever insanely into it. I think they tend to be more into Everquest and Steam games like Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress. Though still never any real addiction. It is a lot of fun to find the hilarity in anime and yaoi and such with them though. ^^ I think it's the best to be able to make fun of your own loves. http://www.everythingyaoi.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=MERCSLAVEOFMINE It's actually a pretty cheaply-made game. Like mine came in a basic cardboard box with a picture of the logo taped on the top, but it's still fun and hilarious. XD And it's only ten bucks. My personality definitely would prefer to just be fluent in one language. I mean, I'm definitely interested in others-German, Italian, Latin, Korean, Spanish, and Hindi mostly-but it would just bother me to go a lifetime without mastering them. So I prefer to just focus on one. And that's actually been a bit of a problem in my art, since I've focused so much on drawing people, I have far less skills in doing anything else artistic. ^^;; I excelled in Life Drawing, but barely managed a B in 3D Design. So I guess there's good and bad to both of our ways of managing things. I think Malik's complete insanity as a character is what makes him interesting and lovable to me. XD I tend not to like evil characters, yet most of the good characters are so... well established. It's nice to have a character who isn't completely evil, yet has some nonsense to them. Plus he is pretty, of course! XD That's why I gave the rule of not having my life threatened. XD If we're going into an imaginary wish of meeting a YUU*GI*OU character, then we might as well set up imaginary safe guards. Even if Malik tried to kill me, a magical protective shield would pop up! :B I wouldn't mind being degraded so much, because it's Kaiba and that's just what he does. XD Though I agree Jounouchi would be my character of choice to meet, not only because he's my favorite, but also because he'd be easy to get along with. Most of the characters in Yuugi's group would be awesome friends though.

Yikes about your own friend. My friend at least acknowledges that she's very irrational, and while it frustrates her, she has a hard time doing anything about it. So it of course leaves her with several trust, control and abandonment issues - which she doesn't cope with well, takes them out on other people, and then is left miserable when people don't respond well.
Hahahaha, what if I can sway the topic back against Malik/Isis baby making? Because true, while it was custom for royalty to marry within the family, commoners and not even nobles were not encouraged to do this. Pharaohs were seen as Gods on Earth, and the Gods were all notably siblings (through Egyptian, Greek, Roman, etc...all ancient mythology it was all one big feuding inbred family). So while it did happen in other instances, people despite regulation really wanted to emulate their royalty, there is no reason to necessarily assume that was the mandate of their particular clan. It still seems suggestively creepy to me buuuuuuuuuuut, I feel there is a bit more weight to believing it isn't so.
Damn theories, I mean math theories anyhow. Literary theories are a wonderfully different matter entirely *huggles Dumas, Austen, Milton and other persons of note within the world of English lit*.
Well my school definitely doesn't discourage it, so that's weird. I mean I can see how they'd maybe worry about people extending their academic careers to finish a minor (schools lose money - for no logical reason - the more students they have that stretch past the traditional four), but minors shouldn't be that much of a burden. Perhaps they just worry people will become so enthralled in their minors they will decide to switch majors (again lengthening that undergraduate stay). Oh well, that's too bad though.
It's definitely good to make fun of your loves, and I had some HUGE WOW addicts, one of my old roommates failed classes due to wow. She pulled a D in her first O Chem course, retook it and got a B. Then she quit WOW and got an A in the harder O Chem course, coincidence? I think not.
Haha, mkay, I think I'm going to try and convince a friend to get me this for my birthday. I'm supposed to halt on the buying of stuff for myself, but this is oh so tempting.
Oh I'll still be driven insane, but I feel if I'm always making the effort to get towards mastery I'll be content. I just love languages and every time I see something I don't understand it makes me yearn to know the method behind that particular branch of madness. Silly life with it always having downs and ups to everything.
I guess in with my personality, there just always has to be something that draws me to a character, even if I don't get much about them, there can be one thing that will sway them for me...for me Malik never had that thing to ever elevate him off like.
Well, my pride is probably going to match Kaiba's, so I definitely couldn't handle being degraded. As for safety, when it comes to YGO characters, screw the rules they have crazy!!! razz
I don't think I'd want Yuugi's entire group, while I dislike most of them, it's true, as "real" people individually they are definitely friendship material. However all together that's just too...cheesy.

It's good to acknowledge such things at least. Yes, I'm gonna hope for that weight to be true; no Malik knocking up his sister, that's how I want it. Let's just go for Isis not getting knocked up at all, actually. Literary theories are interesting to me, but I'm much better at understanding mathematical theories. XD Hmm, that just seems even stranger to me, because my school has a horrible rule going that if you're 'off track' (meaning you're not meeting the requirements for your major in the correct time frame) for more than two semesters, they 'ask' (read: make) you to change your major, which is retarded to begin with, because that just puts you more off track. But that seems similar to changing your minor to your major, so I don't know... stupid school. Oh wow... (no pun intended) addictions really can ruin your grades. XD You should totally get it for your birthday then! <3 When is your birthday anyway? I think most people need something to draw them to a character. The real difference is how easily people find something that draws them. I think I tend to be more drawn to traits in good characters, so at the same time, there's usually more characters for me to love. Oooh, great new quote! XD Crazy they do have. Heehee, true, Yuugi's group can be a bit on the cheesy side. I think I'd be happiest with Yuugi, Jounouchi, Honda, Shizuka, and Bakura. Shizuka's and Bakura's softness is balanced out with Jounouchi's and Honda's crudeness, then Yuugi's kind of in the middle, and without Anzu and Yami no Yuugi, a lot of the friendship speeches are brought down a notch.
