This girl sure likes to be on the defensive side, Hinata thought wearily as Ami wrapped herself entirely in the ribbon. As her shards came zooming back towards her, she raised her hand slightly- and they dissipated into thin air. Immediately afterwards, crystals began to stream out of her zanpaktou yet again, circling her head like a shimmering halo.
"You've barely attacked me once yet, and you're already calling it a useless session?" She grinned amusedly. "The real reason it's useless, is because you're just dodging, blocking, dodging, blocking- if you're not going to retaliate, it's just wasting both of us' energy. Maybe if I force you into a dire situation, you'll fight a little more earnestly, no? Hado No. 4: Byakurai!"
Being not very good at kido in the first place, Hinata did not even attempt to make this flimsy spell operate as it was supposed to. She let go of all concentration, channelling what she knew was a ridiculous amount of reiryoku for the simple kido. A huge beam of energy soared towards Ami, then combusted. The result was a colossal explosion which shook the ground; dust, smoke, soot and rocks flew everywhere as it ripped apart the place where Ami was standing. Or, rather, had been standing. If she had enough sense, she would have known that even with her ribbon cocoon, she would be blasted off her feet.
A huge dust-cloud now faced the shinigami, which would refuse to move for a good twenty minutes. Hinata stood unconcernedly, awaiting her opponent's reaction.

She giggled, "Dire situation hmm?" giggling again her cocoon tightened around her entire form hiding her eyes from view now. She charged herself ready from within the cocoon and pink rays of light escaped small cracks here and there as she herself glowed from within, letting her spiritual energy flow from her body yet it felt muffled from the weapon that wrapped around her entire form. She listened and reached out with her aura to feel what her opponent was doing, syncing herself with the woman out readying for an attack against her protective armor.
As Hinata said "Hado number four..." Ami leapt from the ground and into the sky up out of the instant cloud of debris the weapon coiled up behind her as she swung her arm up over her head the ribbon spun quickly creating a vacuum pulling her into the air and pushing the cloud of dust away from her opponent. Glaring down with a devious smile Ami simply grunted as the weapon lashed out with a softball sized ball at the end, hard like metal and fully able to turn the section of body it struck into nothing more than pulp or if she blocked it rattle the bones in her knees from the strike to the weapons blade.
Though the weapon lashed out quickly it snapped back away even faster as Ami dropped back to the ground, landing in a loose three point stance the ribbon fell about her like a ribbon of thin paper. It snapped back to life as it slammed into the ground around her making a loud snap sound that echoed off into the distance. Standing she fell forward in a full sprint at her opponent the weapon sealed itself as she rose it up and pointed it blade first at the woman's face, she screamed as she blurred forward jabbing at the girls face but downward so that if it struck her face it would come out of her back just an inch above her tail bone.

Hinata was impressed that Ami had come out of the explosion relatively unhurt- not many people dodged like her. Many shinigami's first instinct would be to deflect the kido, whether it be with their sword or another kido. Well. Maybe those were just the violent ones.
Cocking her head to the side, the Vice-Captain held a loose stance as Ami shot out of the dust cloud, landing lightly upon the ground. No sooner had she alighted, did she shoot towards Hinata with renewed determination, yelling at the top of her lungs as she bore down threateningly. Unfortunately, Ami's jab at Hinata's face did not work, since her crystals had barely to move from above her head to her face, blocking the attack. While her opponent was distracted, she swept her zanpaktou round in a high arc in an attempt to cut Ami's chest. Simultaneously, she commanded the shards- that had previously been blocking- to attack. They shot out from under Ami's blade, aimed for her head. From point-blank range, Hinata wondered how her adversary would avoid these attacks.

The stone moved slightly, blocked her jab, then a sweep cut, she jerked back slightly but not before the blade slashed deep over her collar bones, then for one last attack she was only able to twist slightly away as the shards slammed across her head tossing her up into the air and sprawling out over the ground. Slamming onto the ground she rolled slightly as the ribbon went flat. Blood oozed onto the ground as she just layed on the ground. Taking in everything that just happened in a matter of seconds. Twisting her form she spun on her hands and flipped to her feet as her ribbon spun about her defensively like a twister. Staying in Shikai she knew that she couldn't fight this fellow shinigami with just her sealed weapon. Though it wasn't to the death, it was very possible that if either of them slipped up bad enough that their life could be ended easily enough.
Her body held low as she panted lightly strafing around her opponent looking for an opening. Ami's bottom lip bled and dribbled down her chin as she focused merely on her opponent, the adrenaline coursing through her body caused the pain of the previous attacks to feel completely numb. In a way it excited her to know that her opponent was able to inflict damage, though she wasn't a crazy warlord craving a good fight, it was entertaining to know that this whole scenario was life and death but for mere practice.

You became a Vice-Captain halfway through the battle ^^ ))
Hinata saw her crystals tearing through Ami's skin, as warm blood that was not hers splattered her face. Flicking a few stray drops off her cheeks, she watched as her opponent thrashed her ribbon, forming a defensive twister around her body. It occurred to her then how close the cut had been to Ami's neck- a few inches longer and it could have cut a major blood vessel. They were in a very perilous situation- evenly matched fighters that could kill in an instant.
"Your move," she said softly, watching Ami's darting eyes searching for openings in Hinata's stance.
