ugh, I hate theory, but it is useful. I did a lot of theory in high school, and my college director doesn't really do any, but I find myself going back to what I learned in high school. It really does help, oddly enough.

I can sightread pretty well. Admittedly, it's a weakness I'm trying to fix. Our director is going heavily into theory right now, which helps though it's painfully tedious. We have so much music to learn, too, and there's an actual music theory class... Meh. Pain my behonkus.

Yeah. Personally I can sightread the notes off the page... however sightsinging is a completely different strory. I can sight sing... somewhat... but Im not very good at it at all. However, originally I joined band instead of choir, and we spent the entire first half of the year learning theory, so Im pretty good at that.

In my choir, we have to sightread a whole song every single freaking day. ahhh -dies-

I guess I'm a so-so sightreader. I don't enjoy it, but I'm not too terribly awful at it. When I'm in a group, I sightread really well, though.

There's only three people in my whole choir that can sightread, and I'm one of them. sweatdrop

I'm a Sop.2 and proficient at sightreading, and there's one more Soprano 2 that's also very good at it (having played violin her whole life) - and then the other one is a Soprano 1 who falls into the 'somewhat' category.

And to tell you the truth, I don't even know how I picked the skill up. neutral

i can sightread at the piano verrry slowly, but for singing as long as i get the first note, im pretty good. if its a whole song and i have music playing with it, i can sight read even better

I'm a soprano I, and I was the best sightreader in choir in middle school, and the best sightreader in high school is also a soprano 1.

Yeah, soprano 1 parts may be "easy" because of the melody, but in a lot of songs, other parts have the main theme, and it switches between parts. And I have seen many soprano one parts that are really hard because they go so high. And sometimes the main theme is the hardest part to sing.

In an advanced choir, you can't get in unless you can sightread, period. Everyone sight reads, including the soprano ones.

"I myself can sight read, since I'm also in band and took piano lessons for a few years." easy peasy

i can sight read better than most of the altos in my school! i wasn't picked for section lader b/c i'm not popular... but i can sight read! biggrin
okay off topic.
but i've been in choir since 4th grade and i'm now ending my senior yr of HS and will be continuing for the next 6 years to sing. but i can sight read so easily b/c i'm in band as well and have been in band since 5th grade and will be continuing it as well. i don't sight read every day oranything but i can sight read anything new and it be quite correct except one time this yr in band....
