((Can we start?))
PostPosted: Fri Dec 25, 2009 7:17 pm

((Yes indeed, we may! OPEN! whee

EDIT: Just to let everyone know, when I'm writing in first-person, it'll always be Marc's point of view. All of my other characters' perspectives get posted in third-person.))

As the children chanted on, I collapsed to my knees weakly, feeling the wetness from the pavement soak into my dirtied jeans. Their voices synchronized perfectly, intermingling with one another, yet I could feel each set of eyes on me individually. If I didn't join them, surely I would die.

"Alright! I'll join you, just stop!" I begged in desperation, and the voices cut off instantaneously. But in my head, they never stopped. I cringed and held my hands over my ears, in a pathetic attempt to silence the world.

Alex smiled wider, more genuinely now...but her cold eyes deceived that grin. "I am glad you have seen the logic in this option, Marc. Very well, you are now one of our own, but..." She then grabbed something out of her coat's sleeve, an object covered in black cloth. "First, you must wear our insignia with pride. Otherwise, the others could place claim on you." Alex drew nearer, and pulled the cloth off of whatever it was.

My breath caught upon seeing the curved blade, and I instinctively flinched away from it and the wielder. But my attempt at escape did not take me far, for one of the other kids held me in place. "Are you people insane!? Let me go!"

She stood just above me now, holding the blade just under my chin, close enough to shallowly cut into my skin. I froze, the whole world became icy cold in that moment. I stared into her empty eyes pleadingly, trying to understand.

"What is it you fear, Marc? The pain, or the inability to ever return to normal society?" Alex asked, her velvet voice genuinely curious.

And then, the boy fell unconscious.

She and the other child lifted him from the pavement, then put him back face-down on the ground. They pulled his shirt up over his face, revealing his pale back --prime for cutting into. Alex glanced over to Nick, the shaggy blonde. "You have the towel ready? 'Cause I don't think he'd appreciate getting his shirt all bloody on the first night." Nick nodded silently, and tossed the ragged towel over to her.

Alex knelt down beside the boy, and held her blade just above his back. Slowly, she lowered it to his flesh, and began to carve the Omega (Ω) symbol. Crimson blood started to leak and spill over his side, but she was finished before the loss could become lethal, and stopped it with the towel.

"All right, it's done. Now, we should probably find a place to stay for the night..." She glanced over her shoulder, just then reminded of where they were. Alex pointed to the tall building, "It's his house, or rather, was his house...Here, help me get 'im inside." She and a few others lifted Marcus up, keeping the towel firmly in place, and started to drag him back toward the apartment-style house.

Nick stayed behind, in the gloom of the night. He glared at the unconscious boy on Alex's shoulder, "I still say he ain't worth it..."

~1 week earlier~

I looked up at mother as she lead me out of the airport. A limo waited, a shiny stretched car longer then two others. She opened the door, and lead me in, and I climbed onto the seat. I sat across from her as she shut the door, and I felt the car start to move. I peered out the window, as the busy city world passed.

"Mommy? Why...? Why are we here? There are... gangs here."

I looked to my mother, with those cute cute eyes that I knew would get an answer out of her. She looked to me and sighed, a rare moment of regret and pain came from her.

"Rakia... These gangs are spreading their influence. They would have reached our mountain home eventually..."

"So I would have been assimilated anyway?"

"I believe so, Rakia... But, remember Rakia... If nothing else, remember the things I've taught you if you are taken in by a gang..."

I jumped across the gap and hugged her. I knew what was coming. One day I might find come home from school, and she just might... be dead.

"Mommy... I don't want to come home one day and you be dead... I love you mommy!"

"There... is something..."

"Yes?"

"Either I can risk everything by living with you... or you can live on your own."

"I think... if it's for your safety mother, I'll live alone."

She smiled, a genuine smile.

"Will I ever see you again, Mommy?"

"Yes, I will not let you forget me, sweetie. I love you too."

I smiled, a rare real smile.

~Present time~

I walked. I dreaded what would come for me at home; Mother paid the bills for the house, water, electricity and such... but still, I dreaded coming home to a house full of other children, holding lethal things to my throat.

I looked back towards the school I now attended. How innocent they are in there... How... ignorant to the fact that any-day now, they could find their home shattered, and inducted to a random gang of people their own age? To fend on the streets, to kill? Maybe I won't ever see mother again....

No, I mustn't say that. I turned onto the street near my house. Mother worked on making the drug that those children take to be strong, to kill. Even if I end up on the drug, I might see her when I take it... But, then what state will I be in?

I crept up the house I lived in. I pulled out a key and slipped inside, looking around the dark room. I reached up and poked the pinpad next to the front door. There was a hum as the house counted the number of warm bodies on the premises.

One warm body. By the front door.

I sighed in relief. They haven't come for me yet. I turned on the alarm system.

I went into the kitchen and climbed up to the cabinets, looking for something to eat.

I think that's what you said about me, the girl-with-scraggly-brown locks thought, as she looked over her shoulder at Alex before moving on with the rest of the gang.

Or, to say brown was to say the water was blue, when it actually consisted of a plethora of interesting shades, tones, and something the occasional off-color streak caused by the sun's transmogrifying rays. The-girl-with-scraggly-brown-hair actually had both streaks of brown-red and dirty-blond in her hair, along with various shades of the brown in between. Admittedly, some of the colors might be caused by the amount of dirt and filth acquired through much time without a proper soap-and-shampoo bath, but as long as she didn't literally stink, and her hair was half-way avoiding atrociousness, that was all right.

As for clothing, the girl-with scraggly-brown-locks, also known as Ceara in a past life, wore a simple pink sweater and khaki--extremely worn and (from this worn-ness) discolored khaki--pants of no discernible brand. Her sneakers were black Van's, of course, because in footwear there simply could be none but the best in sneakers. This was especially true if you had to run for your life as a common part of your daily routine, which Ceara was known to do. It didn't matter what the gang was up to, be it turf-wars or actual missions from their "benefactors," the work was real and brutal and dangerous.

At fourteen, Ceara was arguably a more fragile component of the gang Omega, and her small size did the least to help her in that department. Or did it? Actually, Ceara was probably the fastest--in an all-out obstacle-course dash--than any of the other Omega members, and probably because she was the one who had to avoid death while covering a lot of ground the most often. Her skills in fighting were decidedly pointed, in that she knew how to deliver devastating kicks, punches, and knife wounds, if she could get close enough to safely deliver them. Life was all about survival for Ceara, and that meant avoiding what came her way, first and foremost.

Avoiding Nick was one of those first-and-foremost priorities. The guy just gave her the creeps, but luckily, as the girl-with-scraggly-brown-locks, Ceara was often able to slide under his notice, along with the notice of most of the other gang members. It wasn't glamorous, but it kept the knives out of your back. With this, Ceara was content.

Swinging back to the present, Ceara sped up her walking until she could fall in to wordlessly help with the lifting. Her eyes searched the new recruit's face. He seemed flawless in a surreal manner that Ceara couldn't quite lay a finger on. As she'd watched the ritual, fully knowing what would come, she could help but flinch at the painfully bloody insignia-carving. Her own back had prickled in the process, uncomfortably aware of how recent that had been.

As a few of the others aided in carrying the boy over to the couch, Alex immediately went off to scrounge around the house for anything useful. She headed first to the kitchen area, where they had slaughtered Marc's parents. Luckily, Nick had disposed of the corpses ahead of time, but it was still a bloody mess.

Thick pools of blood stuck to the tiled floor, already beginning to tint brown at the edges as it dried. Alex glanced over at the digital clock on the microwave, it was only 11:30PM. 'Plenty of time,' She concluded, then proceeded to grab the nearest kitchen towel and sop up the mess. The heavy scent of iron no longer bothered her as it had in the start, it was an immunity built up out of necessity. For those with a weak stomach would not last long in this new world. Killing was just another aspect of her daily life, along with every other in their gang.

Alex discarded the soiled towel into the nearest trash can, then gave the kitchen a quick eying. Nothing particularly useful here, except for edible substances. She took the few cans of ready-to-consume soup and pasta, shoved them into her storage sack, then trudged off to the other rooms of the house. Next was a personal den, likely belonging to Marc's father, based on the posters of under-dressed swimsuit models hung proudly on the walls. Alex immediately focused on the cherrywood desk and it's locked drawers. She took out her dagger, and began to pick the lock with it's narrow end.

The lock gave way with ease, after a moment of fiddling around. Within the drawer was a simple handgun, along with a few rounds of bullets. Deciding this could be a handy weapon, Alex scooped up the contents and stored them safely in a holster within her leather jacket. She made a quick check-over of the other drawers, which contained nothing of interest. Only a bunch of financial records and family photos. One picture caught her attention.

It was obviously from a few years ago, back when Marcus was younger, and when the world was a bit safer. The boy and his parents posed happily for the camera, in front of their house. And something about their smiles just caught Alex off-guard, but she could not figure out what at first. 'They were actually truly, genuinely happy, and not just faking it...'

~~~
I slowly opened my heavy eyes, not letting the drowsiness overtake my consciousness. My whole body ached to some degree, but the relentless throbbing of my back was what really bothered me. What had they done to me?
I lay face-down on a brown sofa, with my shirt removed. Something about this place seemed oddly familiar... And then it hit me: This was my house. I quickly sat up and jumped to my feet, ignoring the dizziness the sudden rush of blood to my head brought. I glanced around the room quickly and then charged off in some random direction, not even really sure of where I was going.
Something, or rather, someone pushed me back. I stumbled clumsily, trying to regain my balance, before looking to see who. It was the eldest boy, the one who glared at me with such pure, untamed resentment. That very same hatred burned in his sapphire eyes now. "What the hell are you doing? Alex hasn't permitted you to leave." He growled at me coldly, looking like he was about to pounce.
((- Edit - Oops, profiles aren't up yet XD
Sorry Hiddo, I'm afraid I'll lose this if I don't post it O.o
Thorne watched the house with unreserved focus, waiting until he was sure that Omega had acquired their target. He was supposed to lay in wait as a one-man backup team in case anything went less than smoothly. As it was, it seemed everything had gone more or less according to plan. He moved the thermals that were to protect him from heat sensors and dropped down from the tree he had been waiting in.
Whenever his leader got back from whatever he had been doing, Thorne would report the smooth sailing. If Omega became stronger, it would enable Delta to become strong as well. No matter what kind of runt went through the gangs, they'd come out hardened or in a body bag drifting to the bottom of a lake.
Dianna paced the area, looking for her leader. He hadn't gotten back yet, nor had he told anyone where he had gone. It was amazing she was still waiting for him at all.
Did he get hurt? she wondered, morbidly entertaining the notion that he had been captured by some enemy gang and was now being tortured simply for being a leader. Maybe he stepped on one of those medieval third-rail things!
Thorne appeared behind his subordinate, silently as always. "Still gone, of course."
Dianna flinched at the sound of the voice, but it was nothing compared to the reaction she had given when she was newer to the gang. "Thorne... What is he up to...?"
"If he didn't tell you, it's nothing to worry about." As co-leader and on friendly terms with his commanding officer - as friendly as Thorne could get, at any rate - Thorne was required to know everything his leader did.
As it was, Thorne in fact was told nothing about his leader's latest exploits. Whatever he was doing, he was doing so in secret.
Dianna turned in the midst of her pacing, and Thorne grabbed her elbow, squeezing hard.
"Stop. Pacing." His words were simple, but the inflection he gave, followed by his expression and the tightening of his grip always gave Dianna a hollow, frightened feeling in her stomach. She stopped pacing immediately, not that she could've continued with him holding her back.
"Wait patiently," he said, then let go. He leaned against the wall and folded his arms, surprisingly alert in spite of his relaxed posture.
Dianna waited in stillness, not quite as alert. She clenched and unclenched her hands, hiding them from Thorne in her sleeves.
Valerie waltzed into the Alpha hideout, a big grin on her face. She smiled at Damien and the other members.
"Guess what, kids? I've found a new member for our gang~ A little rich kid living alone on a big house. She'll be easy~ plus we can probably get her well-paid mother to get us some better food around here."
She looked to Damion with a big grin.
~~~

Laura sat at her desk in her private living quarters and sighed. She was lonely without her daughter. She pulled up the house cams on her lappy, making the cameras hidden around the house make a slight bzzzz as they moved around. She found her daughter in the kitchen, by now throwing together a big pot of chowder. She smiled as she saw the child look up at the camera and wave.

~~~
I sat on the counter, watching the big pot of milky white liquid bubble. It had been so long since I had chowder. I heard a loud bzzzz come from above (though to anyone else it would be inaudible), and I looked up to see a cameras moving about. I smiled up at the camera, and waved.
"Hii Mommy! I miss you!" I wasn't sure if she could hear, but she couple probably read what I was saying from my lips. I looked out the window, where I heard the rattle of a neighbor dragging his garbage can down his driveway to the street. That's right, it's trash-day tomorrow... I went back to tending to my soup.
In a similar situation to Alex, Ceara found herself frowning as she slowly scanned the contents of Marc's bedroom. More than anything else, what struck her as funny was how simply normal the room was.
Instead of disturbing the contents--Alex would probably do that later--Ceara turned to return downstairs, her hair falling onto one shoulder. She was nearing the stairs when she passed a restroom. Inside, the bold red cross of a first-aid kit caught her eye. That would be useful in any circumstance, and the girl knew for a fact that a couple of the children could use some disinfectant. Not that they'd necessarily apply the stuff willingly.
When she finally descended the stairs, Ceara paused at the foot to look in Marc's direction, possibly for a moment too long. Then she tiredly returned her view to her destination: the front door. This was where people would be stacking the stuff they'd deemed useful to ransack from the house. Except for what they pocketed themselves.
Nick was in this room, so Ceara felt it prudent to stay moving. She wandered through the house, quickly peeking in one room or another. Now, she was aimlessly keeping herself busy, sort of.
I waited as the pot boiled, and I peered into it and smiled. The chowder was done. I pulled out a ladle and spooned myself some chowder into a bowl, and ate heartily.I felt the hot liquid roll around on my tounge, and I nommed on the large chunks of potato. My pocket started to vibrate as my cell in my pocket rang. I pulled out the phone and flicked it open.
"Hi mom."
"I see that you've made chowder sweetie."
"Yes mother. It's hard to get ingredients to make chowder in the mountains."
"Seafood is hard to come by, yes. Be sure to check out the basement-- it'll test your abilities well."
"What about if I get inducted into a gang?"
"It will adapt and change as you get stronger. It will never be the same twice."
"I will be sure to check it out then."
She turned and glanced to you, with eyes of a sinful crimson. The fallen angel spoke...
"((Sorry guys, really busy lately. Short on time right now even. Please just hang tight in the mean time, I'm sure things'll settle down once my school's finals are over with, but right now, I am getting sh!tloads of schoolwork plus the added demands of my RL friends and family members. I'm trying to post in my RPs as often as possible, but right now, my grades are a lot more important. )) "
Then, she spread her black wings and took flight.
((One nice thing about finals; half-days. I finally have some time to post at least a few sentences. 3nodding ))
I backed away defensively, holding up my arms in front of myself. I would try to hold my ground, even though my chances against him were 1/1,000,000. "So I can't even go to my room, in my house? You guys are lucky I'm not calling the cops on your asses right now!"
Just then, my vision faltered as I fell backward to the floor, pain shot up the left side of my jaw just a moment too late. He stood above me, the intent to kill shone excitedly in his cold, cold eyes. This guy was a true predator; a wolf wearing a human disguise. I recoiled in pain as he kicked me in the gut, the nauseating flavor of blood entered my mouth.
"Do not question my authority, runt."
~~~

Damien slid out from under the beat-up coffee table, and leapt to his feet all in one fluid movement. His calculating gaze fixated on Valerie as she spoke, he tilted his head to the side curiously. "Rich kid, huh? Just how useful do you believe a spoiled brat would be to us, anyway?" He asked, but not to be mean or judgmental on her findings --No, Damien just tended to be rather blunt with his logic. But he still seemed genuinely interested. "Shall we set out, for an easy capture at the least?"
