Fallout is definitely it's own thing. The only thing retro is the visual images used in the Vault City and all around...the entire game takes place in the future. Many forget the time period is 2050 and beyond, not 1950 and beyond.
If it must be described, post-apocalyptic cyberpunk is more appropriate. I say cyberpunk because of the cyber-genetic research that was common throughout the game.

Yeah, Fallout is like a reverse anachronism, in which it's the future -actually past the year 2200- but the visual style of everything is very 50's. It has a bit of everything, from cybernetic engineering to biological mutations, etc, which is why I said Fallout falls under it's own category. That's one of the reasons Fallout is so great, it's hard to compare it to anything cause it's so original.

Indeed! I guess I was thinking 2050..because in the first one that's when the Great War started...or something like that. ..Eh..they all run together. D:

Eh, there's no doubt that it's its own thing, but that doesn't mean it doesn't contain elements associated with various "punks"- whether or not it would be called that is a different matter, I suppose.
I.e. it contains elements common to nuclearpunk, but it is not nuclearpunk in itself.
Just had to clarify! Lalalala~
now that I look, I realize Fallout 3 is installed on this computer, my brother's old one. surprised
Perhaps I should play!

Not sure if it's really Steampunk, (Radio-punk or Nuke-punk mabye?) but it dose have one or two steampunk-esque parts. Also, I noticed that the society that became the wasteland had very strong retro influences.
I played game three, and I was surprised how much of the stuff from before the nuke war, like the nuk-coke that acted like potions or the way some of the loading screens looked. It was almost like society adopted a more 1950s way of life before being destroyed.

They may be called Ghouls but they are zombies, rotting flesh... maybe not undead but they even look like the typical zombies.. sorta... As for the vampires, there is a small cluster of blood drinkers after dealing with a town problem. If you get in "good" with them they will teach you how to get 20hp from a blood pack instead of one.

Yeah, but Ghouls don't eat other people, they're not cannibals. They're just like humans, with the exception that their skin is rotting, and that they are immune to radiation. They need to eat, drink, sleep and survive just like a human.
And I wouldn't call blood drinkers vampires. Hemophiliacs sounds more like it. Fallout is great, but it's strictly sci-fi. No zombies, or vampires, and the aliens are a spoof, and not meant to be taken seriously.

No zombies, or vampires, and the aliens are a spoof, and not meant to be taken seriously. Eh I just consider them zombies partially due to their drone like minds and clusters. The ghoul mask makes them ignore you, kinda like a zombie flick... sorta. During the speakings with the "vamps" they admit to being the said term in a matter of sorts, and a hemophilliac is someone who's blood doesn't clot... but I know what you mean, just a blood drinker. In the most recent and last DLC(downloadable content) go on an alien mothership. Its called Mothership Zeta. Yeah deff not a strict sci-fi, its kind of an open idea game. They pulled ideas from every direction. Its like a collection of all things fun. XD Im not trying to knock you, or your thoughts... just showing my point of view based on gameplay. smile

It's cool biggrin But Ghouls I guess are meant to be seen as the undead, seeing as 2 of their cities- Necropolis and Underworld- have undead or evil aspects to 'em.
