Some people who make E-5 really do let it go to their heads. I find that it's more common amongst those promoted from SPC. Those promoted from CPL have had time under their belt to be an NCO already, and consequently they're less cocky. One of my instructors at AIT was an E-5 who was very much like that. His idea of teaching a class was pretty much this:
"So, this is the M59 Field Range, and I'm pretty much the coolest guy ever. I DARE you to make E-5 faster than I did. Any questions?"

NCO are not suppose to be your friends. "Hurry up and do what I told you before I get yelled at by my own superior" was probably going in their heads. Not wanting to here the infant excuse of "I'll do it when I'M ready from a lower enlisted." lol Babysitting soldiers to do simple task is probably the most stressing job there is, lol.
As for your situation, I agree that getting your CAC card back was of immediate importance and if you told the SGT then he was in the wrong.
I'm a E-6 and .... people of higher rank than you not using common sense does not decrease through your own promotions. It just gets worse. xd

I didn't tell him because I figured it would cause a scene, but once i got my CAC I did it without saying a word to him.

the only thing thats worse than the "e-5 mafia" is the "sham-shield" wearers that jus got out of wlc and had a nice shot of super soldier serum after eating there Wheaties...they have a worse chip on their shoulder than any ******** over paid pvts.....and its even worse in my unit, were ******** reserve..there is really no need to be hardcore...and the e-5s that act like they are high and mighty are the mother ******** who have a minimum wage job in the civilian world so they have some urge to be the boss...and im sure most of em cant get laid either..bunch of goofy lookin white trash bastards......sorry subject hit close to home and had to get that out

II Tenth Doctor II I don't know if anyone else has this problem in their unit but in my unit we have a few E-5's that think they are the s**t just because they got their stripes. Saturday we were doing breifings at the Armory and I was in line to get my CAC card back and this other E-5 asked me nicely to take the trash out with another soldier. Then this dumbass jumps in because I hadn't moved yet and said in a really condescending tone "Do I need to translate for you?' I didn't even have my CAC returned to me yet. I'm sure as hell not leaving the room until I have it! I really wanted to deck the jerk, but it's not worth the trouble I'd be in for hitting him. Anyone else have this problem with E-5's thinking they are better than you because they have stripes or they just act really smug? When given a chance to do a Command Climate Survey or a sensing session voice your opinion. Put names out there. Things will change fast. Or stalk that NCO and beat the s**t out of that dickface when he is drunk.

The spec4 mafia isnt that bad. Between us and the e5's in my unit, we do ten times the work they do, for less than half the recognition.
