He wanted to get closer to her, wanted to stroke her hair and hold her close and tell her that everything was going to be fine. However, the situation obviously didn't call for it. She'd be on him in seconds.

The moment she clutched her stomach, something quickly flashed in her brain. The vegetable garden. Or rather what was still in the vegetable garden. His eyes darkened nearly to black as he watched her. That was the only reasonable option. If he ran now, she would just follow him and that wasn't going to aid him in any sort of escape. Topher even wondered if he could back there and face whatever he had left. It felt like going back to square one. Everything he had planned for was counting on the fact that he could get out and not be eaten. If this helped then it was worth everything.

He quickly took the plaid cloth, stretching it out in his hands and giving it a few hard tugs to test it durability, pool stick clattering to the ground. He couldn't even get the edges to tear. After realizing the strength it took to rip this material apart, he was honestly surprised she hadn't bitten his finger clean off. "You have to trust me on this Yvette. If you do..." His voice had deepened a bit. It was authoritative and strong like he wasn't giving her much choice but to listen to him. "...If you do then I can promise that you won't hurt me."

Topher took her vulnerable state into account. He quickly shambled over to her form, compelled by some unknown force. A steady hand slowly lifted her chin as he stretched out the fabric, shoving it, albeit carefully, between her teeth. Somewhere in the back of his mind, his own consciousness was trying to rebel against the compulsion that had taken him over. It wasn't everyday that he felt so out of place in his own body. The person gagging the girl in front of him was sure of everything and confident. Nothing like his normal self. This was someone who had a plan. It wasn't until the knot was tied underneath the mop of purple hair that he was able to regain control of his own body, emotions crashing back to him in waves. What as he doing? He was gagging someone. He was actually trying to keep them from biting him. What was the world coming to? Never in his life did Topher think that he would have to actually satiate some sort of alien hunger that sent a painful chill through her body.

Tohper stayed like that for a moment, hand still nestled in her hair, feeling how odd and stringy her hair had gotten in death. He certainly didn't remember it to be like that before. Of course, he'd only felt her hair one time where he actually admired it. A disjointed sigh came from the boy. He wished this was under other circumstances. He wished they were back in his dorm room talking about prom. That was why he should have been holding her close.

Still, he knew there was something he could do. Hopefully something that wouldn't make her cry the moment it was over. He honestly didn't know how many people she attacked but what was in the garden could no longer be hurt. He was sure he'd killed it if it wasn't already dead. In a way, it was like a sign that he was going to get out of the situation and help her at the same time. That grotesque body back there was like music to sooth the beast while he would slip quietly away, undetected.

When he slowly rose back to his full height, he sighed, moving back to the pool stick and using it to point towards where he had come from before, motioning for her to follow him.

"I know you're hungry. If you follow me and keep your head for a bit, I can make the pain go away..."

Dulled indigo eyes eventually looked up to Topher as he drew close. Even though she knew this was coming, she still couldn't help but look like the victim in the situation as she got gagged. His hand felt like a flame on her skin, but not in the painful sense of burning. Her own skin was so cold in comparison that living flesh brushed upon it was an inferno that felt like heaven. Subconsciously, she leaned further into the warmth of his skin, almost as if she was trying to snuggle into him.

While his hands remained tucked in her hair, her eyelids sunk slightly over her eyes, feeling a bit heavier than before. Even with the tough cloth between her teeth, she began to draw herself closer, nearly pressing her gagged mouth against his chest. She could feel a steady rhythm of beating beneath the ribs and skin. To one who was dead, the sensation was nearly seductive. She pressed her face against it, rubbing her cheek across it, as if trying to claim the beating heart as her own.

It was only when he pulled away to show her where she was supposed to go that she seemed to snap back into her usual self. Since she really couldn't say anything without it coming out muffled, she scolded herself in the back of her mind. What was that all about?!! You cannot afford to do something so foolish, or you might lose him again.

Her stomach retaliated to such a thought by stabbing her promptly in the gut with hunger pains. Much like before, she gripped tightly to her stomach, heaving in a deep breath through her nose. Standing there, she looked as if she was going to wobble over from a lack of balance. However, with a second deep breath through her nostrils, she attempted to balance herself. She knew she was hungry. She watched the direction which Topher was heading, seeming hesitant at first. Maybe she could follow him. Maybe he was right and it would all go away very soon.

With slow and wobbly steps, she followed after her friend, like some stray cat that was looking for a free meal.

Walking around felt just a bit more awkward. Every time he looked back, it felt like he was taking a beloved pet for a walk. A pet that wanted to eat him too. Though it felt nice to know that Yvette was shuffling after him. At least he would have someone to talk to for the journey back to the garden.

Topher sighed, quickening is pace a bit. "This has been a crazy place. Everything has gone out of control." His words were astonishingly timid. It wasn't like he had much of a grasp on what was going off. He was just glad there was someone to listen rather than a desk or his pool stick.

"After you" He honestly didn't want to say bite. What would that make it seem like?m "...after the incident, I was pretty much alone the entire time. I was afraid to talk to anyone else." An arm crossed over his chest, hand clutching his upper arm with a new found sense of embarrassment. Here he was baring his soul to someone who probably didn't even have one anymore. This was the boy who always took the opportunity to talk to anyone who would listen but it felt like he really was talking to no one. For once, he felt vulnerable and yet, he continued in the same timid speech.

"I'm kind of worried something bigger than us is happening. I mean, all these people dying. A meningitis outbreak? The fire? Zombies? This kind of stuff doesn't just happen you know. Not in my neighborhood at least. I just wanna be home. I wanna e as far away from this place as possible." At this point in time, he was way too wrapped up in his thoughts to even make sure she was following him or about what he was saying. He doubted that Yvette could leave this place either.

As he got closer to the garden, all the painful emotions started to flood back just as quickly, and strongly, as the pain in his finger had when he'd first seen her. He seemed to hesitate on each step no matter how fast or how slow his uneven pace became. His goals technically hadn't changed. The boy still wanted to get home and continue living. Walking closer to the dead body just made him visualize himself there once again, hitting that thing over and over again. When the entrance of the garden drew near, Topher's breath grew heavier and faster. He looked back to make sure Yvette was still following him. He didn't quite remember where he'd left the body but it wasn't like the vegetable garden was a giant maze.

"It's somewhere in here. I just have to remember where it was..." His eyes had a look of worry and doubt behind the bright glint of the bit of control he had over the situation as he looked her over. "You doing okay, Yvette?"

One foot in front of the other.

Poor Yvette really was physically incapable of moving very fast. She couldn't really hear what her friend was saying practically to himself. She continued to follow him, one staggering foot in front of the other.

Subconsciously, her teeth began grinding slightly against the rigid cloth in her mouth. She wasn't aware she had been doing it, but she knew she was hungry. There was fresh meat guiding her someplace, and if all did not work out, maybe she'd still manage to catch herself a meal. She would have been drooling if her mouth hadn't been gagged up. As she trailed behind him, her eyes were growing even duller, to the point they were practically an inky black. She was losing control again, but it was not a full control like before.

It felt as if there was something irresistible about Topher that she needed to find. As they approached the garden, the girl literally hobbled right up to him and began to snuggle into his warm body. She didn't say anything, strictly because she couldn't, but even as she wrapped her arms about his waist and pressed her face against his chest, she was still grinding her teeth on the gag. That pulsing in his chest was a siren's song even Yvette could not resist. She wanted him more than ever.

Just as he was thought they were off to a good start it all seemed to crash down around him. Her arms encircled his waist, pulling the flush against each other.

"Yvette?..." The grip on the pool stick tightened out of instinct. He knew this wasn't an impulsive hug brought on by gratitude. She wanted something and it probably involved his life. Still, it didn't stop his heart from racing against his rib cage or stop his breath from quivering. Topher swallowed, mouth going dry almost instantly afterward. A hot blush crawled slowly over his cheeks as big blue eyes slowly closed. His entire body took a moment to relish the feeling of her being so close him, long, slender fingers on his free hand twitching, wanting nothing more than to curl around her lower back and draw her closer. Zombie or not, she was still a girl and he was still a teenage boy. Whatever survival instinct Topher had left was phased out for the more pleasant feeling fogging up his mind.

Either the presence of her mouth against his chest or the small voice in the back of his head trying to scream some sense into him snapped him back into reality. She was way too close and probably not even in her right mind. Yvette was trying her best to break through the gag and that was obviously the last thing he needed at that moment. Her being close was a threat. Topher had no desire to be eaten especially when it meant possibly being eaten alive. When his fingers finally stopped their twitching, he placed a gentle but firm hand on her shoulder, giving the girl a harsh push to get her attention. His voice deepened once again. The friendly tone he normally sported replaced with one of urgency. "Yvette. Let go of me."

It wasn't a suggestion. To anyone around, it would've sounded like a direct order. He wasn't going to mess around and plead for her to release him. It hadn't worked before with in either of the encounters he had been in before and he doubted it would work now. The game had changed and he had to along with it.

"Your meal is somewhere in here. It's not far..." he grumbled, voice slowly hitting an awkwardly manipulative tone, "...I thought you said you didn't want to hurt me. Do you realize what you're trying to do?" It wasn't often that he tried to lead someone into a decision but the situation was desperate. Topher just wanted to get back into the small bit of her that wasn't controlled. Maybe there was still a small bit that cared for him enough to snap her out of it.

As his heart began to beat faster, the girl seemed to grow slightly more excited in her actions. Her teeth were practically chomping on the gag, but her body continued to hold onto him tightly, fingers trailing up and down his back in a feverish fashion.

It was the stern voice of her friend and the strong push against her body that seemed to cause a reaction in the girl. Her eyes seemed to gain a slight bit of color again, but more notably, her eyes looked scared. Within a moment, she had gone from being the predator to being the prey, eyes now resuming that doe-like quality they always had before. Her arms, which had still be wrapped about the boy's waist plucked themselves away and tucked themselves up close to her own body as if in some form of self defense.

Though she looked at Topher with frightened eyes, it was difficult to get a sense as to why she was scared this time. Had it been his tone with her? Was it the rejection? The less-than-gentle physical touch? Or maybe it was none of these and something inside of Yvette that frightened her so.

Regardless, it was not like the girl could flat out tell him what was wrong. With her mouth bound shut, all she could do was edge back as she almost seemed to fight off the invisible tears from her eyes.

Topher's entire body ached from adrenaline the moment her hands left his waist. He honestly thought he wasn't going to get out of that one without becoming her next meal. Thankfully Topher has been able to tap into that small bit of her that bled through the strange presence that had her so dead set on eating him. His breath finally slowed to just below hyperventilation, knuckles white around the pool, stick.

He wanted to stand there for a moment. He wanted to be able to recover from the near death experience he'd found hims self in again. First Yvette then Kimmie and now Yvette all over again. The boy was finally starting to wonder if this was some cosmic joke spurred on by a subconscious death wish. Whatever it was, Topher knew he had to get out of the situation and fast. Yvette was a dear friend but not how she was at that moment in time. No matter what her expression. Though, when Topher's gazed fixed on her again, he couldn't help but feel as if he'd done something wrong. She looked so scared and he honestly had no idea why. Had he hurt her? Was she in pain? Did she not know what was going on?

"Yvette," he finally got out, voice shaking a bit, "...come on. I got you this far and I might as well take you the entire way. Cheer up. I'm fine. You didn't hurt me." The boy slowly contemplated what looked like a tomato plant. Had he seen it before?"

With a quick snap of his fingers, Topher motioned for her to follow him. "It's not too far. I remember seeing lots of tomato plants. At least...I think they were tomato plants..." Tomatoes or not, he knew he was close to whatever he'd left behind.

He urged her to keep going. He had told her to cheer up. He reported that she did not hurt him.

Yet, all she could do was shake her head from side to side and back up. Her dark hair was getting a bit tussled as she attempted to get away, partially masking her truly scared expression. Her body seemed to move in an almost frantic fashion, and soon enough she had managed to stumble slightly before pushing herself back further, skidding her skirt through the soil. With the way her legs moved and how short her skirt was now, she was definitely flashing a bit more than she would have normally been okay with.

The strange thing was she did not attempt to say a word. Her mind had plenty to say as it was practically spewing out words within milliseconds. It might have looked as if she was thinking "Oh, I can't believe he yelled at me" or "Oh, why did he push me?!" That was far from the case. If one could interpret the rapid stream of words running through her mind, it loosely came out to "No! I don't want to hurt him! I need to get away so I can't hurt him! This was supposed to be a good day, why is the day falling apart like this?! I don't want to be doing this anymore! I'm so scared!"

All of these thoughts were flooding through her as she continued to just shake her head from side to side and edge away, the vague sounds of whimpering escaping her from under the gag.

A plant stalk broke under his sneaker. Sue paused to size up the scene.

Well, Sue had sure called it. Wherever this little map of his was likely to lead, it seemed, there were sure to be greenies on the other end. Though in this case... one greenie, one survivor. Which - gag or no gag - basically added up to two greenies in a little time, barring intervention. Damn lucky for him, they had two brands of intervention - the Foramen brand "if you try to make a damned move you will be two pieces of zombie", and the Serenity brand "super sparkling cute magical miracle healing touch."

(For the record: In cases where his Zodiacs weren't involved, Sue was a big fan of the first method of greenie-disposal, even though he had a feeling Serenity wasn't.)

He began speaking in an aside to his group, but seemed to change his mind mid-way through. "It's one of this pair-- Hey! You two!" Whichever way they were going to go about this, Sue figured, it was best for them to move while the zombie's bite was still obstructed. That meant not dragging this out even one instant for something to go wrong. "Come over here, we gotta talk."

Which meant his esteemed colleagues had until the time they arrived to figure the best way to handle the zombie girl. Shouldn't be a problem, right?

Just as he was about to venture out to find the body he'd left behind, a voice stopped him in his tracks. Oh god. Was he surrounded now? That was the absolute last thing he needed.

Topher let out an awkward sort of squeal like he'd been caught walking out of the shower without a towel. His entire body quivering as he lifted the pool stick over his shoulder like a baseball bat, all the insecurities of thinking he was the only survivor coming to the forefront of his mind in a sort of panic. Whenever he saw people, it meant that someone might have to be hit in the face. His pool stick and the fact that he was a pretty fast kid were the only tools that he had for surviving. He certainly wasn't going to let his guard down with someone else running around.

Although...there was something different about the newcomer.

"Wh-what do you wa-want?..." His voice was ragged and shaky, adrenaline mixed with the fright of the sudden intrusion fairly obvious. It took him a good moment to finally realize who he was looking at. Well, they certainly didn't look like a zombie. No green skin or awkwardly colored eyes and they wanted to...talk? The people Topher ran into never just wanted to talk. They just wanted to eat and he certainly wasn't a fan of that.

No. This person was definitely alive. He slowly lowered the pool stick to his side as he shuffled hesitantly towards the other. "You're still alive? How can that be? I thought everyone was...dead...kinda..." He pointed to Yvette with the end of the cue to demonstrate his confusion on the word 'dead'. "I swore I was the only one left alive. I mean, I've been walking around forever and there's been absolutely no one who wasn't trying to tear my face off hence the gag..."

The zombie's nerves still seemed on edge, for as some other student arrived on the scene from somewhat behind her, she wanted to jump out of her skin. At this point, she wouldn't doubt having the ability to do such. She let out a squeak of a yelp into the gag, which almost completely obscured the sound.

No, no, no, no!

If her heart was still well and pumping, it would have started beating faster at the aspect of feeding on more fresh flesh. It was not what she wanted, but her body tended to disagree with her a lot lately. When her body disagreed, she blacked out and found herself alone again later.

Maybe I can fool myself into not wanting to eat she tried to reassure herself. She pressed her legs together and attempted to hide her face almost childishly against her thighs. Dark hair lay limply towards the sides of her face, but even with the extra cover, she still felt tempted to approach the two.

She hugged her arms about her legs and began to rock in place quietly. Her stomach hurt so much, why didn't it ever stop?

Foramen positioned himself diagonally in front of Serenity. She would still be able to see the zombie and the human boy, but if they made a move for the Queen, Foramen would be there to stop them.

"She seems almost lucid," he noted. The female zombie looked a bit hungry, but also seemed to be trying to resist it. Why the boy had stayed with her, Foramen had no idea. The idiot was risking his life by not killing the green-skinned monster. If he died, Foramen would nominate him for the Darwin Awards. "How do you wish to proceed, Your Majesty?"

This was indeed turning into a zombie recruiting drive, if it was the girl they were here for. Foramen wasn't impressed with the calibre of these "zodiac" senshi if they'd all succumbed to the zombie plague. At least the Queen was kind and generous enough to heal them. And god help the little bastards if they weren't appropriately grateful to her.

Maybe it would be the human. Although that would just make another zombie-loving senshi, like the girl in pale green. Yep, these "zodiacs" were definitely the retarded cousins of normal senshi like himself.

"Can you tell which one it is?" he asked Sue.

Serenity rested one hand lightly on Foramen's shoulder, and then moved to the female zombie. Yvette was jerking her head around frantically into her legs, panic-stricken as any animal. As she was. As she would be. She knelt down beside her and pressed one hand against her hair; it was the same as with Lucas -- the white light took her on as a match touched to paper, burning brightly and coating her in its warmth. All over. Hair to toe. At that point, the Queen started untying the gag.

"It's the boy," she said, answering the question that Sailor Foramen had asked. "Isn't it, Zue? It's the boy."

So obviously the next Zodiac was another 'zombie lover'. She was rising to stand. "We don't mean to talk about you as though you're not here," she said, to Topher. "Please, child; it's all right." (This would have seemed strange from Chronos, who looked a child herself, but the voice was low and rich and that of a much older woman.) "Zue?"

Even gagged, Sue knew, those things were dangerous - all claws and hunger and viciousness. And of all the ways he could think of to lose his princess, this would have certainly been one of the most careless, most pathetic. So he watched the exchange with a peculiarly intense gaze (no doubt that glowing thing between his eyes was in large part responsible for the unease his gaze brought), rolling onto his heels, ready for motion. At the slightest sign of aggression - the tiniest hint of threat from the greenie - Sue would have lunged forward, forced some distance between her and the possessed Chronos, and left Yvette to Foramen's particular talents.

But that was underestimating Serenity, or else putting too much weight on the danger of this particular creature. Within seconds, life had been breathed back into the greenie girl; Yvette was living once more, her threat utterly disarmed.

"It is, m'am," Sue confirmed. Without the zombie to worry about, it was easier for him to focus now. Recalling Astraea's directions, he did his best to focus on the boy.

The part of him which was "Sue" spat up the information quickly, spilling it out in a bored tone like reciting from a textbook. He knew the name was Topher; he'd lived two doors down from Sue's own room, next to Trace. He was a little older than Sue, and in a different house, so they'd managed not to have much contact in spite of their living arrangements. Sue was pretty sure he was one of those guys that never knew when or how to shut up, and about the stupidest things too - probably another reason they'd had so little contact.

But once Sue got done yammering now, there was a whisper from the other part. All these thoughts led somewhere, and that place had a name....

Found it.

Like he'd managed once already, Sue found that door within his mind which led elsewhere, gave it a little push. And his hands began to glow, the first sure sign that he'd been doing anything at all other than standing there and looking contemplative (a look that didn't especially suit him well, anyway.)

"Taurus." Sue all but snatched the henshin pen out of that place he imagined it, and it appeared abruptly in his hands. "This one's for you, take it."
