Cricetian Zathura Hurrah! Isabellie!! heart heart Got your ticket to fly home for Christmas yet? You're my ticket to fly, you're my energy ride, on the rhythm of love (I wanna hear you scream!!)
...I love Vancouver's public transit system. I hate Vancouverites who complain about their public transit system. >=[ I love it, but sometimes the 135 to the school bugs me. @___@ It's supposed to come every 8 minutes during busy times, and 15 minutes every other time so I plan my getting to school based on that....and lately, I've been waiting out there for 20 minutes when a s**t ton of "not in service" buses go by. gonk Frustrating when dependant on the things! Other than that though, it's been wicked sweeeeet. cool

Zathura Cricetian ...I love Vancouver's public transit system. I hate Vancouverites who complain about their public transit system. >=[ Agreed! Vancouver has one of the top systems of major Canadian cities, it's not as unreasonably priced as people seem to think it is, and it has good service with decent timing. What do people want? A free taxi service? The only thing I would like to see is it running later at night. Vancouver and the Lower Mainland is too much of a 24 hr city to shut down in the wee hours. Especially the skytrain. The buses at least run til 1am, 2am, but the skytrain often shutdown at 12ish? Being stranded in the middle of the night is not ******** cool. Anonymous Karma theres a fake canada?!?!?! where is it? one day i will take a huge road trip and go to canada... i probably won't want to leave and be way to baked to leave.... lol ! It's just what Naito calls it. I tried convincing her that the East is older, and therefore more legitimately Canadian than the West. It would be more appropriate to say that she lives in Teenage Canada, and I live in Elderly Canada. And Teenage Canada has all the best weed. Ugggh I remember once we were downtown, like at Main area skytrain at midnight, and I was like "Oh let's just hope down to Burrard and take the 135 back up!" (since it goes until 1:30am), but no...the sky train only went out to Lougheed the long way and not downtown at all. I had no idea how to walk from there or bus, so we rode it all the way to Lougheed and took a cab back to school (when we still lived in rez). Ha, I was actually thinking the same thing. When I think Canada and it's traditions, I sort of think more about the east coast sadly to say, lol. Like Anne of Green Gables and s**t, haha.

Isabelle Ha, I was actually thinking the same thing. When I think Canada and it's traditions, I sort of think more about the east coast sadly to say, lol. Like Anne of Green Gables and s**t, haha. Yeah that's my problem too. Vancouver is such a young city. The house I lived in was the oldest house in Richmond. It was 160 years old. The house next door to me here is almost 270 and it's not the oldest in the area, apparently.
Have you ever seen images of the Vancouver skyline in the 70's compared to the 2000s? That city was made by Expo 86. And when I think of Canada, I think of Anne of Green Gables. I think of Ottawa Parliament buildings and it's British architectural influences. I think of Quebec, I think of toques, I think of Tim Hortons, I think of Bluenose, I think of Great Lakes and portage-ing French fur trades men. All eastern things
When I think of BC in the context of 'what is Canadian' All I've got is the end of the railroad, a relatively recent gold rush and mining in general, forestry, the Canucks, totem poles, and mountains. <---- Which I think of as being BC and not necessarily shared with the rest of Canada. Things seem to move westwards but never back the other way.
I think often that urban areas of BC have more in common with cities of south western states, like Seattle and San Francisco, and rural areas have more in common with Yukon and Alaska. Those Rocky Mountains seem like a psychological block as much as they are a geographical one.

I'm flippin' biased, but British Columbia on the west coast is the part worth visiting, all the way!
Montreal (Quebec) is really cool, amazing night life, clubs, shows, etc... but the French can be a barrier, even though you can live in Montreal your whole life and never speak a word of French, you are limited (and limited to the one city lol)
Toronto (Ontario) is the only other really cool city in the east. Huge, international, lots to do, but always seemed so serious, and not as pretty as Vancouver.
Vancouver (BC) and Calgary (Alberta) are the young cities, and there is awesome stuff to do in the summer. Vancouver has the most neutral of the year around weather in Canada and the most gorgeous views and outdoor sports, Calgary has the stampede'n's**t that people seem to think is fun.
Since it is weed you are looking for, then British Columbia is the place you want to go. World famous BC Bud. Easy to get, cheap, apparently a helluva trip.
But no matter where you go, you will find better beer. I still wouldn't bother with Regina (Saskatchewan) unless you are a university student of technology. There is no point to Winnipeg (Manitoba) unless you are a Grain Baron of the 1800s. Skip Newfoundland unless you like funny accents, moose, and geology. Maritimes Provinces (Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick) are only for fish. And since even *I* don't have the appropriate clothing to visit the Northern Territories, I'm not going to even mention them.
Look! I stereotyped all of Canada!Flying Mojo Quote: When I think Canada and it's traditions, I sort of think more about the east coast sadly to say, lol. Like Anne of Green Gables and s**t, haha. During tourist season, I think she's like some kind of Japanese Santa Clause. Yeah, what is with the Japanese and Anne of Green Gables??? They love her more than we do. They think of America's Disneyland, and Canada's Green Gables with the same level of excitement XD
Anne of Green Gables was always in my mind like a Canadian version of Pippi Longstockings, or Little Women. Frankly, they are all interchangeable, culturally.

Edmonton is smelly and cold. gonk My sister goes to U of A there and they literally had -20 in October. >__> She brought all her winter gear when she came to visit at thanksgiving, but then was like "WTF? It's not even cold!" and ended up wearing t-shirts everywhere, lol.

Calgary holds some fond memories heart The folkfest being the top ones. We did the Stampede one year but I was like 15 so obvs I couldn't partake in what is most known for - drinking your face off partying (oh yeah they have rides but I'm a ride-aphobe). I ended up buying a cowgirl collectible Barbie as a souvenir xd

Other than a little of my family that lives in BC, almost everyone else either lives in Alberta or Quebec. I still don't like Alberta or Quebec, in spite of the good childhood memories xd Only really awesome thing about Alberta? The best parts of the Rocky Mountains are in it, and the freaking awesome Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller! heart Now that is great stuff. I loved going there, and would totally go back. I still have all the fossils I bought and found in Drumheller!

They even have their own psychological disorder named for when they go to Paris and it doesn't live up to their expectations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome
