Saberlin raised an eyebrow at her giggling. "Well actually I would like coral trout. We should have plenty since I instructed the cooks it's my favourite." he smirked, lightly flicking her with his tail.
"Here we are." he sauntered into the third floor kitchen and took one of the seats that two maids had pulled out for them, waiting for Fern to choose a place.
"Welcome back sir. What would you like to eat?" A suited butler greeted them, smiling at Saberlin as though he was an old friend, pen and notepad at the ready.
"Hello Jones. Hmm...I think Fern should order first. As for me, it's just the usual" he hinted with a grin, knowing that there were several dishes which could be considered 'the usual'. Most of them involving meat. He winked at Fern. Teasing the staff was quite entertaining.

Fern giggled at Saberlin. "Hmm..what do I want....?"She though for a bit. "How about...grilled cheese sandwiches? Oh and maybe with some strawberries?" She had a serious craving for strawberries.

"Strawberries and grilled cheese" the butler repeated as he scribbled down the orders, trying to sound as though such a combination was perfectly normal. "And for sir, the..usual dish of..." Jones the butler paused, eyeing Saberlin hopefully for a more detailed answer.
"The usual" Saberlin replied calmly, giving absolutely nothing away. He was in a playful mood.
"Very good sir." Jones replied, trying to hide a grin while writing more notes on his paper. He knew this game well; he'd been playing it since Saberlin was a child. He pitied any of the newer staff who were not acquainted with the guessing game. "Thank you sir. Lunch will be served shortly" Jones bowed politely to them both before vanishing into the kitchen area to pass the orders onto the chef.
Saberlin turned to Fern with a chuckle. "Grilled cheese and fruit? That's a dangerous sounding mixture." he remarked. "Almost as terrible as fish with ice cream"

Fern smiled, giggling as Jones left. She loved when Saberlin played tricks o people. It was entertaining to watch. "I have a reasonable excuse for any weird combination I crave. What's yours?"

"Mm...it was a dare of some kind, if I remember correctly" he replied, leaning back in the chair some more and thoughtfully fixing his stare at a far spot on the wall near the ceiling. "I think we had a particularly difficult customer come in and they were so unpredictable, not to mention suffering a bad case of fectious mildslime, that the staff decided to have a dare over who would get the job of helping them out." Saberlin pulled a face at the memory. "Unfortunately for me, I lost. Two bowls full of sardines mixed in ice cream was all I could manage before getting ill" he laughed a little, shaking his head.

Fern giggled. Saberlin always had the best stories. "I don't think even I could eat something like that." She shuddered at the thought. She never really liked sardines anyways. She sighed a little as her laughter quieted, glancing out the window.

((Ehehe...I couldn't get near the computer when I got home because my sis and her friend pinched it. Lol. ))
Saberlin tried not to think about it anymore. For a second he almost remembered what it had tasted like.
A delicious aroma thankfully drifted into the room at that moment and the butler reappeared carrying a tray laden with items. He swept around the table and swiftly laid the dishes out in front of them, filling their glasses with ice water and lemon slices. The grilled cheese and strawberries appeared done to perfection.
Standing back, he gave a small bow. "Lunch is served. Please enjoy your meals" he announced.
Saberlin's tail swished happily and he smiled when he saw the plate before him. "Well done. You guessed correctly, as always" he chuckled, picking up a piece of the coral trout.

=^.^= Well, I think it's a good idea if you make up a character profile first and then PM it to us. That way we know who we're going to be Role Playing with.
Just simple information like their name, what they look like, their race, age and things like that. The same as Saberlin's and Fern's profiles on the front page. biggrin If it's accepted, we'll post it on the front page under the 'Characters' section. Your character can be a friend coming to visit, a customer who wants to purchse items or needs a cure, or a new employee. (Maid, gardener, cook, nanny etc.) Anything you like! They can even be a bad person pretending to be good. Lol. ))

Fern smiled as he placed the plate in front of her. "Thank you." She picked up her sandwich and bit into it, smiling. It was delicious.

Saberlin watched her bite into the toasted melt out of the corner of his eye, ears lowered a little, half expecting some kind of reaction. He watched her carefully in case strawberry and cheese proved to be a volatile combination.
Meanwhile, his fish was disappearing in neat, quick bites. It was tender and sweet with a hint of tangy lemon juice; just the way he liked it. Although he had the appetite of a leopard at times, Saberlin still knew how to use his manners no matter how hungry he was. Half way through the meal, however, there came an interruption.
Two of the housekeepers who had been in charge of taking care of the luggage appeared nervously in the doorway and approached, one of them carrying the large oval rock that had been purchased at the markets in the seaside town on a silk cushion. "Excuse me Sir, Mistress, forgive us for intruding but we don't know quite what to do with this. Should it be added to the collection of gemstones or the garden ornaments? Or...is it that kind of item?" she asked politely.

Fern looked up as the housekeepers came in. holding the rock. "Oh, didn't you want to run some kind of experiments on that?" She turned to Saberlin, biting into her sandwich again.

Actually, Saberlin was thinking he might like to run some experiments on Fern after she finished that sandwich melt...
He spoke to the housekeepers with the polite, serious tone he usually always used around anyone other than Fern. "It's alright. Please add it to the repository for now. I'll see to it as soon as possible" he instructed.
The women dipped their heads and left the room, hurriedly taking the rock with them. Once they found out which category it belonged in, their expressions had quickly changed, hinting at flickers of fear. They seemed to want to get rid of it as quickly as possible, only holding the very edges of the cushion.
Turning back to Fern, he nodded. "That's right. I want to run some tests on the strange moss covering that rock. The more I think about it, the more I realise that we might have stumbled onto something special" He gave a small lopsided grin.

She smiled, finishing her sandwich. "I think you may be right. It's definitely special." She took a sip of her drink,wondering what secrets the strange rock was hiding.

"Mm..." Saberlin nodded again and took a few sips of the ice water but he was becoming more and more agitated sitting at the table. His tail and fingers twitched occasionally and he found it hard to sit still. He was incresingly impatient to head down to his lab and start running tests. Eventually, he gave up on making conversation and stood, pushing back his chair.
He leaned down to kiss Fern briefly on the cheek with a small smile on his way out. "I am sorry my flower; I simply must go and examine that rock. You may come with me if you wish, though I would prefer that you did not. My work area is not exactly the safest place..."

Fern smiled and nodded. "I understand, love. I'll find something to keep busy. Just dont work yourself too hard, alright?" She smiled and gave him a quick kiss.

"Alright then. That's good. If you need me for anything just alert one of the staff and I'll be there right away" He assured her, leaning down a short way so that Fern could reach to kiss him (she was a fair bit shorter than his six foot height and probably had to stand on tiptoe many times).
He only vaguely heard the final words of her sentance, already on his way down the hall to the lifts by that time, mind whirring with ideas.
Saberlin was geared up! He had a huge grin stretching from ear to ear and was chuckling under his breath in anticipation, fists clenched tightly, ears perked.
Glancing around outside a marble statue of a mer creature in the hall, he secretively slipped behind it and vanished into a thin elevator behind a tapestry which covered the wall, pressing a small button disguised to match the wallpaper.
