"What does the plant do?" Usually things that smelled bad weren't good for you right? So she wanted to know why something that smelled bad was good for you. "if you got it on you wouldn't you smell bad too? If the smell lingers like that."
She stayed back for now not wanting her fur to smell like a leech if she could help it. Maybe the next thing they had to find out be something that smelled better

"It's actually really good for small cuts," he mused, trying not to laugh. He only felt like this since it was a role reversal. He wasn't feeling like too much of an idiot now...until they'd have to move again in the dark, and he'd be back to depending on her to help him not fall flat on his face. "Though it smells, it keeps them cleaner than only washing with water. Mixing it with the washing helps." At least they weren't too short of water out here.
"The smell fades," he shrugged, "though a little dirt can make it not so...strong." And since he was messing with it, he probably stunk too. Whoops.

She tipped her head again as she thought about what he said. "So ... it smells horrible but it's good for you. Something you should put up with because it will help a cut not get as bad as it could." She still didn't like the idea that something that smelled should be good for you though. "I guess you could roll in those white flowers that grow in clumps. They smell nice and fresh."
She had no idea what they were called though. She just liked poking them because when they were fluffy they exploded and she could watch them float off in the air

He watched her play with the flowers, pondering. He could do her off-paw suggestion and roll in them, but then he felt he might be quite a mess after that, too.
He rubbed a little dirt on himself, knowing that it would help the smell, yet also make his white coat look pretty dirty. He sighed, giving up on the idea. Whatever.
And while he knew a lot about certain plants, he never really knew what they were called. To him, they were what they were; flowers, roots, bark, ect.
"I think we might block out the moon if someone rolled in them," he chuckled, thinking about the puff of flowers in the air.

"That would make it a bit hard to get back. I'd be picking you up from holes all the way there." She grinned slightly as she batted a flower with a paw sending little fluffs up in the air.
She looked back at him with a grin "You should get a bath before you go to bed. That way the smell doesn't stick in your fur too bad"

"Hey!" he protested, but understood what she meant. He wouldn't be in holes, he didn't think he was that helpless, but it wouldn't make things much easier, that was certain.
He pat the pouch around his neck, feeling the stiff roots inside. "Probably not 'til I put these things away, otherwise the smell will haunt me! And then you might not want to come with me again."
He paused. It was brief, but it felt awkward to him. "I'll be sure to do so, though," he winked.

She laughed softly at his protest. He probably wasn't that blind but it had been fun to get a reaction out of him about it. "If you smelled bad i wouldn't want to come with you again. But you don't smell bad normally so as long as you put the roots away and got a bath it would be fine." She nodded
She wasn't quite sure why she said that or what it meant but it seemed like the right thing ot say

Relaxing, he smiled again, though it felt like a better, honest one. "Okay, deal," he agreed. "I'll try not to let us go after something so smelly again."
Actually, he had a completely different idea for next time, but...he wasn't sure if he'd go through with it. It wasn't a matter of nerves, it was more of a 'should he even try' deal.
Oh well, he'd figure it out when the time came.

"What are we going to go after next time then?" Her ears perked up slightly. If it wasn't something smelly maybe she'd remember it and might be able to find it on her own too.
"Are we done here? I can take you back and you can get a bath before the night gets too cold"

He paused. Well, he could keep a little bit of it secret. "I think we'll go out a little further next time. It won't be a whole lot further than today, but it is in the other direction, so I'll probably pass out before we make it." He felt his mouth twitch, resisting the urge to crack a playful smile.
"Besides, I don't think you want to put up with my smelliness any longer than you have to." He nodded. "We're done for tonight." But, not totally, thank goodness.

"Wouldn't want you to pass out. I would have a hard time dragging you back anywhere remotely safe." She grinned slightly. At least he could make jokes about things instead of being all stuffy.
"You should get a bath. The river near the bend has some good rocks to rub dirt out of fur in it."

He smiled. "I wouldn't want to insult a lady by passing out in front of her, either." His tail twitched with amusement.
"I shall do that. Do you want to follow me, see if I trip? I'm sure it'd be a source of much amusement for you," he fake-grumbled, but slowly started his way towards where the river was. He wasn't ready to dunk himself, but he'd clean around his mouth and paws.

"I -should- make sure you don't trip. I"m sure i'd be called horrible if someone found out i let you and then laughed about it." She smirked before padding out of the little flowerbed so she could head back toward the river with him.

He huffed. "Really, if someone would blame my folly on you, they wouldn't have the respect to say it outloud." He was, however, thankful that she was willing to walk with him. Hopefully he wouldn't fall into a hole now.
"If I slip in, will you save me?" He was starting to get a little more forward now.

"I'm sure they would. I'm mean remember." She grinned as she stepped carefully over a tangle of vines. Her family would probably point it out if she let someone else fall into a hole because they couldn't see in the dark as well as she could.
She turned her head to look at him for that question. "I think i would. But you would owe me for me having to get cold and wet"
