Again, Marlo managed to catch the ball, (however, he slightly under estimated the landing point and stumbled back). Contimplating about going an a miniature rant how football was not soccer it was football, and football was just...something that took a name, he held back. Diffrent countries had different names. Here it was football and soccer. He really needed to get over that fact. As he tossed the ball back, ( bit higher this time, Marlo was getting a little more confident), Marlo decided to break the silence. "You seem tense. Tenser then I am at least." He took a second to wrap his scarf around his neck, as to not turn his words into muffled gibberish.

As the ball fell into Marlo's net, he nodded again in approval, but his thoughts were already elsewhere, back to summer and the Destiny Center Mall outside of the Sports Shack, with him and a light blue uniform next to him, walking towards the buses. And the slightest bit of hope. He was stupid to think that way and he knew it, stupid, stupid, stupid--
And then Marlo's voice brought him back to reality.
He inwardly squirmed at the attention, and he tried to think of some excuse, anything, but he knew as well as anyone else that he couldn't just shrug something like that from his shoulders. That left honesty, which made him feel just as squeamish, but at least he would be playing it straight.
"I don't get girls, man," Zachary said with a shrug, looking away. "And you think I'd have learned by now, y'know?" He glanced back at Marlo, then down to his lacrosse stick. "Go ahead and put a little arm into that next toss."

"Zachary, I think that no one understands women." He gave the ball a chuck in the air. His aim was a little far to the left, but the arch was good. "Sometimes, I would hazard they don't understand themselves." Spinning the stick in his hands, Marlo glanced at Zachary with a slightly unamused look.
"And by 'have learned by now'? do you mean you're giving up?" AS Marlo chucked the ball, it was throw with a significant increase in force. "What is god's name is making you give up?"
Blasphemy.

Zachary's face blanched, and he spent so much time trying to think of a response that he barely caught the ball with a quick flash of his lacrosse stick. "Well, when you put it like that, it sounds worse than it is," he began, shrugging as he pushed up his oval-shaped glasses.
"It's just that the last time I was into some girl, she dropped me on my a**, even when I thought she was giving me all the right signals." He tossed the ball again, though a bit higher than he intended it to go. "And now there's this other chick, and she gave me her number a while back, and I don't know what to do about it." The way he put it hadn't suggested that he'd been stalling on the issue for several months now.
"I mean, she's Crystal. I got a bad feeling about this."

(OH LAWD @A@ Sorry FKT!)
"And that has made you not even try to get back into the playing field? Zach, if she dumped you, big deal, you get back up and try again. Just, not with the same gi- Crystal?" The ball fell onto the grass. The look Marlo gave Zach was one of disbelief.
"Well...that explains a bit." Walking over, Marlo tried to pick up the ball with the stick, yet, Hillworth's mud had it in a firm grasp. Marlo glared angrily at the ball and kept try to pick it from the mud as he went on. "Avoid Crystal girls in general that make overt signals. Usually they just want a 'bad boy'. But this other chick. CALL HER IMMEDIATELY. In fact, why have you not called her? Golden rule, girl give you a number, wait a few days, then ring her up." There. Ball back in the net, and it even came with some mud! Mud and ball were tossed at Zach before Marlo had time to think, 'maybe I should have knocked the mud out of the net'.

Dumped? Zachary wished he could have said the girl just dumped him, but before he could come to his own defense, he saw the ball headed for his direction again, and instinctively reached up with his stick, a relatively easy catch. However, the mud kept moving, and Zachary felt an unpleasant splatter of the cold, wet dirt on his face and glasses. With a resigned sigh, he put down his lacrosse stick, removing his glasses so he could at least wipe them off.
"I just don't know what to think about her," he said, shaking her head. "Seems pretty cool and all, cute little strawberry blonde, plays lacrosse...but she's still Crystal. Didn't Elzo say they were a no-go, no matter what?" Having sufficiently cleaned his glasses, he resumed play by tossing the ball, which still wasn't entirely clean of mud itself.

As mud caked Zachary's face, Marlo winced. He should have knocked the mud out of the net. "Sorry about the mud, and this is Elzo we are talking about. It if has a v****a, walks on two legs, and is even remotely attractive, chances are he'd go after it, Crystal or not. That and I've actually met a few girl that were not insane there. For the post part, pure insanity, but a few give me hope for the human race."
Trying to grab the ball over his head, a flicker of mud hit him, making Marlo drop the stick in order to grab his scarf and use it like a overly long towel. After he finished cleaning his face, he wrapped it back around his neck, mud and all.
Marlo really hated the cold.
"Just go for it. Better to try an fail then not try and end up being called a c**k lover."

"Well, I guess if you put it that way."
Zachary felt something cold and light brush his cheek, and looked up in time for the first signs of snowfall with a curious stare. Snow didn't mean much to Zachary, who could throw around a lacrosse ball regardless of the conditions. However, he looked back to Marlo, who seemed far less comfortable with the whole situation, and with an internal shrug he decided that perhaps they'd had enough for the day.
"We should probably head inside," he commented, taking a step towards the door. The last thing he needed with his head full of thoughts was a stuffy nose to go with it.

If the wicked witch of the west melted when water got on her, the Marlo was her nephew when it came to snow. A flake fell in front of him, Marlo glared at the tiny cluster of ice crystals while they descended to earth. "I agree. Inside." It did not take any prodding to get Marlo off of the field and bace into the gym. Where is was not snowing, (Oh how he loathed the snow).
"...Thanks for letting me try out lacrosse. And, about your problem. I will say it again. Call this other girl as soon as possible. Do it." Marlo sounded like he was going to threaten Zachary if he didn't. thankfully, Marlo wasn't one to go into physical violence. He just talked like he meant it.

Zachary's pace to the gym was relaxed, and he almost laughed to himself as he watched the other boy bound out of the weather as if there were meteors coming down and not snow. He collected his gear silently and offered Marlo a nod, amused but not entirely threatened by his tone of voice.
"Alright, alright. I'll call her, I promise," he said warmly, bundling the sticks into one hand. "I'll let you know how it goes, okay? See you around." With a short wave, Zachary was back to his dorms, totally ready to dial Rea's number. Entirely. He'd just...stare at it for an hour or so, then chicken out. But he'd call her tomorrow, he was sure of it. Because now it was a promise, and you always keep a promise.
