"Your perception." Her words were exact and concise. She pointed to his sketchbook as she tossed her long mane of hair. "You interest me because you are different than me. You can see...things for more than what value they have monetarily. You can see beauty, I cannot." Her eyes met his without flinching, she had simply stated the facts to him.

'My perception?!' Cinder was quite puzzled by this, "Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. Things are only beautiful if you give them the time to be so."
He opened up his sketchbook and flipped through the pages. 'Ah hah. This should be a good one.'
"Tell me what you see here," He held the page up where Ziva could see it clearly, "And then I'll tell you what I see. Don't be vague about it either. As descriptive as possible, if its even possible."

Ziva tilted her head as she studied the page. The drawing was of the inside of a house. "Well, it's very open. Very few places to hide." She rubbed her jaw thoughfully, "Dandelions would likely make you sneeze so that's no good for hiding. There's soot in the fire place, it's well used. The person would not be as sensitive to sounds since the air is warm and does not carry sound as well. There are too many windows, too much light." She looked at him smiling. "Did I do good?"

"Mhmm," Cinder nodded thoughtfully, "Is that so?"
He proceeded to flip through his book again, "What about this one?" Once again he held the page up so she could get a clear view.
"Again, as descriptive as possible. I'll show you another one after this, and then I'll tell you what I see in all three of them," he smiled softly, "Though it might seem trivial, this will help me help you."

Ziva looked at Cinder a bit skeptically, then turned to the page. "Well that one is of a clearing. It's been treaded on recently, the grass it turned down and there's a smudge by the water there." She pointed as she considered. "The water is a bit low but everything is green. Likely the river was swollen only a few days before and it is now it's normal size. There's not much light, good for hiding. Those flowers-" She pointed them out "They don't grow in the light. They love shade."

'Hmm,' he thought as he turned to find the final sketch, 'She noticed the flowers. So she's not too lacking, but she is right about not noticing the beauty in things.'
"Last time," Cinder smiled. He'd found the image he was looking for. "What do you see here?"
He couldn't help but chuckle. 'This one isn't really fair. But let's see how she does.'

Ziva's face coloured a bit. It was a picture of a laughing, happy family. Hurriedly taking the sketchbook from him, she slammed it shut. "I see nothing but misery." Her eyes were flashing with anger and pain, and her breathing was heavy. She was trying to control her emotions, but she was finding it difficult.

His smile faded into a sad grimace. 'That one really was unfair...'
"Your eyes are filled with pain. There is nothing but happiness in that picture, yet it was the only emotion I think I didn't see cross your face." Cinder tilted his head, "What did that make you think of?"

Ziva shut her eyes, trying to control her emotions. Her breath was coming steadier, "I...Experience has taught me that moments like that are lies. A charade before terrible pain." She tried to shrug her shoulders nonchalantly.

'She's trying to hide it and doing a horrible job.'
"You can't really believe that a loving family can't exist!? That everyone is out to hurt someone?"

She looked at him, her eyes a bit dead. "I learn from experience, and this is what experience has taught me. Maybe one day, it'll be different but I doubt that."

Her eyes are so lifeless. Cinder looked away. He couldn't keep eye contact with her for long. Clearing his throat a bit, "I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not quite sure what could have caused you to believe such a thing, but it is certainly a tragedy."
He sighed, looking at his sketchbook again, "No one should be denied a happy life."

"In life, you get what you fight for. Why fight for something you'll lose anyway?" She didn't want to think of them, or the tears that stung her eyes. She wouldn't cry. "At least, I know now, that happy endings are lies."
