THIS IS WHERE WE BELONG M A Y B E I H A V E A P L A C E She had quite possibly gone insane, maybe just a tad. Either way she had gone to that store and now was back one gargoyle statue 'richer'. Luis meandered into her home and quietly went to the spot she had planned for the statue and placed it there. Stared at it and then picked it up and began to place it elsewhere. This process continued for an hour or two, much to the satyr's annoyance, until she simply decided to carry it about under the crook of her arm with a soft sigh. Luis set it on the table when she ate dinner, she sat it on the toilet while she took a shower, and eventually it ended up resting on her nightstand as she read her book for that night.
Living alone had its pros and cons. She recalled, as she lay there, feeling lonely. Now as her eyes adjusted to the darkness of her room and she saw the outline of the Gargoyle on her nightstand she found she didn't feel as lonely anymore. It was like there was a presence in the statue and it was trying desperately to break free and even reach out to her. It was probably the imagination of a lonely widow. Luis closed her eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep.
She dreamt she had a strange little child that had skin like stone, horns, and a tail. The child stared at her with a smiling gaze and giggled before suddenly she faded away.
When Luis awoke the next morning the statue was staring at her and she stared back at it. What a strange dream she had had.

WAIT...WHAT? N E W L I F E *CRRRCK!*
The sound was jarring enough to cause Luiseach to suddenly jolt and make jagged dark line across her paperwork; she frowned down at the line and then looked up and around the room to see if the cause was in the immediate area but she knew exactly where the sound came from. It came from her bedroom where she had left that statue that she sometimes found herself talking to from time to time ever since she had bought it. It was strange and she tried not to think about it too much anymore. Thinking about it meant that she was very much aware that she was doing something that she didn't normally do. After a few moments of additional silence she decided that the sound was her imagination, because denial was a widow's best friend. Luis turned to her paperwork and let out a deep sigh and reached for the whiteout.
*CRRRRRRRCK!*
This time it was softer but it was also followed by a thump and a very vocal 'OWCHES'. Luis closed her eyes and bowed her head, she could not ignore that not one bit. She could try but she had a feeling that whatever that particular sound heralded it was something that could walk around and eventually come and find her instead. Thus Luis dropped her pen and pushed away from the table as she got up and wandered into her room as she took a deep sigh.
The statue sat where she had left it only it was cracked across the chest and one of the wings, gone white, and a little less defined somehow. First Luis stared at that and then down at the small gray-skinned girl who was rubbing her hands against her colorful hair and her eyes squinted tightly shut as she murmured soft, "Owchesowchesowches!"
Luis reached up and rubbed her temple with a single head as she uttered a soft, "Bacchus," in a slightly exasperated tone, it sounded like a curse. The satyr moved forward to crouch near the girl who had stopped complaining and was now staring at her with wide green eyes. "Who are ye?" Luis asked calmly.
The girl shrugged, "I'nno."
Great. Fantastic.
"Where did ye come from, child?" Luis asked quietly. She had a sneaking suspicion that it had something to do with the statue. If it was what would she do? Should she go see Switch about it? She didn't know at this rate, right now she was working to remain calm while not panicking over what to do with the child that was currently in her residence.
The gray-girl reached over and pointed at the statue with a proud grin.
Suspicions were confirmed because Luis couldn't think of a reason the girl would lie to her. She straightened up and offered the girl her hand, "Come with me, child. We'll get you some food to celebrate." Luis gave the girl a small smile.
"Cel'brate?" The girl said curiously as her small stone-skin hand reached up and grasped the hand offered to her.
"Well, yes, your birth. I can't keep calling you child and but you don't seem to have a name," Luis said as she tugged the gargoyle-girl after her with shake of her head upon her realization. She would take the girl to see Switch but maybe not demand an explanation that seemed odd, but maybe Switch would like to know...? She wasn't sure. It just seemed right, maybe.
Damned indecisiveness.
"How about I call you Daisy?" Luis asked quietly as they made their way into the kitchen.
"Eww," the girl responded, which made the female satyr laugh slightly in amusement.
"Tia?" the woman asked as she glanced back and down at the girl.
The gargoyle girl responded with a headshake.
Luis looked thoughtful for a moment. Her husband's name had been Farrel, but that was too masculine. Not that the small girl shared any semblance to her husband it just seemed to be the name that popped into head upon pondering names for the child. She directed the girl to sit at a chair, "How 'bout Faris?"
It was close to Farrel and while it sounded a little masculine still. The little girl seemed rather enthused with the name for as the colorful haired girl sat she nodded enthusiastically.
"Faris then," Luis said with a small chuckle as she went into the fridge and began to pull together the makings for a simple sandwich.
"Faris!" the child parroted back and wiggled in her chair as her stomach uttered a loud grumble which shocked the girl, "wazz'it?"
Luis laughed outright as she constructed a small meal for the girl, "It means you're hungry Faris."
Faris' eyes went wide for a moment as her lips formed a small 'o' shape as she turned a bit in her chair to watch Luis curiously, "Mommy?" she pointed at the woman curiously.
Luis paused and gazed back at the gargoyle girl as she pointed at her, "I..well...I suppose...so.." she was too shocked to say anything else before she turned back to making the sandwich. The satyr wasn't sure how she was picking up some of the concepts while not picking up others but she decided to not question it because the child likely wouldn't have answers. Luis finished the sandwich, cut it in half, and placed it in front of the girl who took it up and crammed one of the halves into her mouth all at once.
"Woah, woah, remember to chew and take small bites, Faris. It i'n't goin' anywhere." Luis said panicked that the child would choke though the girl seemed to chew the large mouthful with very little problem and then swallow and then went to make a repeat performance with the next half, "Faris! Small bites, please! F'my sanity."
Faris stared up at her guardian for a long moment before she took a bite out of her sandwich half she was about to cram into her mouth and chewed on it.
"Thank ye," Luis said softly as she brushed a hand over her forehead with a long sigh. This was going to be a fun night.

TURTLE, TURTLE! T U R T L E ! It was early evening when Faris was gearing up and showing any energy at all once again, this made Luis uncertain as to whether or not she should be concerned about the girl that she was in charge of. Then again this was how all gargoyles operate, right? At least according to some research that Luis had done on gargoyles in general. Why should Little Faris be any different? Well, other than the fact that Faris might not exactly be a gargoyle at all in most respects, her 'birth' was not like how the books described how gargoyles are born, though the statue certainly seemed cracked much like an egg. At least the girl was semi-active during the day as well, just preferred to sleep through most of it, especially in sunny spots.
Much like a cat.
This amused Luis more than anything, especially since the statue that the girl was born out of looked canine. The satyr didn't question it. She found that it was better to not question the things that were brought into this world. She was still toying with the idea of bringing Faris to see Switch and at least letting the woman know that the 'free gift' had become a child and also at least enquire if this was somehow normal and if this was a regular occurrence and then maybe pity the poor woman if that was the case. Not only did Switch have to deal with a less than informative partner but she also had to deal with (maybe unintentionally) handing items to turn into children. Luis had no illusion that not everyone easily accepted the sudden task of having a child to care for and she was almost certain she probably handled it a lot better than most of the people that found themselves in this most peculiar and delicate position.
Faris was crouched in the open backyard which held a couple of trees and a small pond for now. Her mother promised that she'd buy a play and sandbox to keep the stone-skinned girl at least slightly more entertained which made Faris more than just a little gleeful (and impatient). For now she would have to find other entertainment in exploring the backyard. It didn't take long until Faris happened upon a young turtle that was making its way through the grass toward the pond when it was suddenly snatched up and found itself staring at wide green eyes.
To say that the turtle was surprised would have been an understatement. As soon as it saw the face its head ducked into its shell to hide and from its backend there was an ejection of small pellets that hit the ground. Faris was about to talk to the shy creature when she heard the pellets drop. She stared down at them and wrinkled her nose.
"Now is not the time to poo," She chided, "you do that when I y'am not holding you." Faris put on her best disapproving stare in hope of coaxing some form of guilt from the shelled creature for suddenly releasing its bowls nearly upon her in its fright.
The turtle just stared at her from inside the shell very much unimpressed by her correction. It certainly was many things but the turtle was not apologetic about its frightened excretions, if it could talk that was. As far as anyone knew, the turtle included, it couldn't talk and it probably wouldn't suddenly gain the ability anytime soon.
"'Allooooo~? Y'are okay right-right-right?" Faris asked as she ducked her head a bit to try and get a better view of the creature hiding in its shell. It hadn't occurred to the curious little gargoyle to poke her finger into the shell which was just as well as she would have just ended up getting bitten by the very frightened creature. "Come ouuuut. I y'am not dangerous! I will protect you, yes-yes-yes," she nodded a bit as she spoke in a coaxing tone. In fact she fully intended to keep this little critter so she could protect it fulltime!
"D'you do tricks? I bet you do. All am'in'als do tricks," Faris said thoughtfully as she crouched and set the turtle down and stared at it thoughtfully. What trick could she ask it to perform? She twitched her tail side-to-side thoughtfully as she stared at the shelled creature that was slowly poking its head out and stared up at her. The turtle seemed to sense that it wasn't going anywhere anytime soon or it was taking a liking to the weird gray-thing it was uncertain since turtle emotions are a little impossible to read unless one is a turtle expert.
Faris let out a small happy keen when the turtle poked its head out and plucked out a blade of grass and offered it to the creature. The turtle sniffed it with mild interest and seemed to decide to humor the girl by munching on it whether or not this type of greenery was part of its diet. The gargoyle let out another happy keen and clapped her hands, "Good tur'le! I'mma gives you a name. Y'are Sarson!"
The turtle didn't have a choice in the name it was given, unlike Faris who seemed to have plenty of weight on the manner when she was being named by her adopted mother on the day of her birth. The turtle didn't seem bothered by that prospect, whatever made the girl it was perfectly alright so long as she didn't hurt it like the turtle initially thought she would. Thus the turtle named Sarson quietly munched on the grass and swallowed it down with a slow mild blink of its dark eyes as it stared up at the girl. This was pretty alright.
The gray-skinned girl made a signal for Sarson to stay where it was while uttering a firm command of, "Stay!" as she stood and began to scamper into the building where she lived with her adopted Mother.
Luis was doing a load of dishes when a very excitable girl tugged at her skirt and eventually at her leg and pretty much dragged her outside by her hand yelling something about a ... tur'le and a 'Sarson' or something like that. The red haired satyr barely caught any of it as she ran behind her daughter.
"Stop-stop-stop! Caref'l. You might step on Sarson!" Faris cried out as she suddenly turned and hugged her mother's legs to get her to stop which seemed to do the trick because Luis indeed stopped and lightly gazed around for a moment to try and catch sight of whatever it was her daughter was trying to show her. After Faris was sure her mother had stopped she turned and peeked around the grass until she found Sarson where she had left him. She gently lifted the turtle up.
"He's a ninja'r tur'le," Faris informed her guardian as she held up the grass green creature for Luis' inspection, "cans I keep him? He does tricks! I told him to stay and he stayed like those puppies on teevee."
Luis made a face as she stared at the turtle who had taken this moment to hide from this new unknown figure. "Er, do ye know what it eats, Girly?" the satyr asked uncertain she didn't want to say no right away. It didn't seem fair to just automatically deny a child everything they wanted, she also didn't want to be one of those 'unfun' parents, at least not straight away.
"Nope! Sarson ate a grass though! Maybe he eats that!" Faris said hopefully as she held the turtle closer to herself. She was already making plans to decorate the shell because just plain green was boring even if it gave Sarson awesome ninja powers. Faris was very certain that Sarson was a fashion conscious turtle who wanted a snazzier shell which she planned to give him.
"Errh. I..I suppose so. I 'ave a bowl for 'im back in th' 'ouse," Luis relented, "we can look up what 'e eats on the computer. C'mon let's go inside, it's getting dark." She quietly moved and put her hand on back of Faris' head and began to usher the small gargoyle indoors.
Faris was on cloud nine as she carried Sarson inside, "Can I color 'is shell? Look he looks like he has a star in the mid'le!"
Luis stared at the turtle and then at the girl from where she towered over them and sighed a bit, "I think I have something that is safe enough for that, aye," the satyr said thoughtfully as she began to try and remember where she had put that blasted fishbowl she had gotten from when she used to have pet goldfish for a while to help her cope with some of her loneliness after Farrel had died.
"YAY!" Faris cheered as she now moved to trot ahead of her mother only to disappear indoors. She had set Sarson on the table and rested her chin on the table so she could better have a staring contest with the turtle in front of her while she waited for Luis to get inside and then get everything ready for her to color on Sarson and to get Sarson's new home ready.
Luis wasn't sure why she gave in to the demands of a small gargoyle girl but she did. First she got Faris the permanent markers which were non-toxic and supposedly very safe and then she got a bowl ready for Sarson and decided to also buy a fish tank later to prepare more of an environment for the reptile rather than just submerging it in water twenty-four-seven for the satyr was sure that the creature dwelled in more than just water alone.
By the time Faris done coloring the now very colorful turtle the bowl was ready to have a new occupant. This was all so terribly exciting for the small girl. She hadn't had a pet before (which wasn't saying much as she had been born but a few days ago), and this was her first one! Faris vowed that she would protect the turtle as best as she could. She'd feed him, clean his bowl and bigger home, and make sure to play with it every day!
"Welcome home Sarson!" Faris said cheerfully as she put the turtle his watery home. The turtle kind of floated there for a moment before it started to swim about and seemed rather content. Sure the girl was kind of funny but she seemed to have his happiness in mind so the newly dubbed Sarson decided that this could have been worse and decided to enjoy his situation to the fullest.
Luis uttered a small laugh and nodded, "Aye welcome home," she gave Faris a gentle pat on the shoulder. "Go get washed up for dinner, Lass."
"Sarson can eat with us right?" Faris asked hopefully as she went to go wash up in the restroom, she lingered at the stairs long enough to wait for an answer from her guardian. She certainly hoped her mother would agree to the idea, Faris was loathed to leave poor Sarson somewhere all alone with no company at all. Everyone deserved company even little reptiles in glass bowls!
"Hahaha, 'e can sit with us but not eat with us." Luis chuckled as she gently put the Sarson safe in his bowl on the center of the table. She leaned and lightly poked at the glass and the turtle stared back up at her mildly. The satyr swore Sarson seemed to smile at her, if a turtle could smile that is. It was probably her imagination.
Faris rolled her eyes before she disappeared upstairs with a flick of her tail, "Okayy~," once in the bathroom she washed her hands and face as her mother often instructed her to. When she was done she stepped off the stool she used to reach the sink and skittered her way back downstairs with a bit of a cheerful hum.
Luis had served out dinner by the time Faris made her appearance at her usual place at the dinner table. Today it was stew and some nice fresh biscuits with butter. The satyr was a surprisingly good cook but of course that went without saying since she ran a tavern and cooked most of the meals for the patrons there. Luis sat at her own place and took a sip from her glass of water with a bit of a smile. This was nice, to have someone to eat dinner with rather than eating dinner alone...
The girl stared at her serving and then looked over at Sarson in his bowl who happened to be staring back at her right then, "Please, please, please, c'n Sarson 'ave some, momma?" Faris pleaded as she picked up the spoon in her hands and began to push at the contents of her bowl. She was waiting for a response before she would dig into her meal, the gargoyle felt mildly guilty about eating in front of her newfound aquatic reptile friend.
Luis gave a small laugh at this and shook her head, "No, love, we can'nae give 'im our meal and he can'nae digest it I am sure," the satyr said gently with a small smile, "we'll find him something soon enough. Besides he probably won't even be interested in what we are eatin' right now." As far as the red haired woman knew reptiles such as turtles don't really enjoy the mixture of broth, meat, and vegetables and it would quite possibly do more harm than good if they were served such a meal if they even ate it at all to begin with. No, she wouldn't even tempt the fates and she wouldn't allow Faris to do so either.
Faris gave a small pout in response but nodded and began to eat uttering a small, "Sor'y, Sarson," in between bites of biscuits and stew. She really wished she could give Sarson SOMETHING but since momma knew everything she wouldn't even try it. She didn't want to hurt Sarson after promising herself to protect him. She ate thoughtfully as she stared at Sarson who was still staring at her, "I y'am gonna teach him other tricks," she announced, "after I y'am done eatin'." Faris added at the end of her announcement before her mother could object to something.
The satyr chuckled a bit, "Not sure what all y'can teach a turtle but alright, love. First you gotta help me clean up the plates and things, remember?" The woman had given the small gargoyle easy chores to do so that the girl felt a part of the household though the idea of chores seemed to be losing their charm for Faris rather quickly because the girl made a face shortly after the reminder was made. "Don' make that face, girly, we all gotta do our part."
"Even Sarson?" Faris asked curiously after she had made the face of distaste.
"Aye even Sarson. He can help by keepin' ya on track," Luis replied with a small grin as she watched the small girl make another face.
"Sarson is a dirty traitor," Faris sulked with a small sigh as she chewed on another biscuit.
Luis only laughed in response to the small girl's words and continued to eat. Yes, perhaps the turtle could be used to the satyr's advantage if she did things just right. At least make the girl compliant for at least a little longer.
When everything was cleaned away and she was free to do so Faris had taken Sarson to the living room to teach him some tricks. The only tricks the turtle seemed to pick up real well was 'stay' but he would not 'sit' or come to her when called. It would barely 'lay down' and 'play dead' but those tricks were so similar to 'stay' the young girl was fairly certain the turtle was just using the same tricks and just 'saying' it was the new one. Sometimes Sarson hid in his shell and play 'ignore the strange little girl'. Faris didn't like the game and so after a while she gave up, for now, and put the turtle back in his home and spent the rest of the evening pretending to read books to Sarson since she didn't know how to read just yet.

YULETIDE LESSONS I W A N T P R E S E N T S It wasn't that Faris didn't want to learn or was disinterested in learning, especially about reading. Her reasons for wanting to learn how to read and right were her own though Luis knew full well why the small girl wanted to learn to read. There were countless tables in the tavern that had things carved into them. Things that Luis refused to talk about or explain because, quite simply, Faris was far too young for such crudeness.
The fact remained that right at this moment Faris was the least interested in reading, writing, and learning about numbers and more interested in the wrapped packages under the nearby tree. She sat at the table and wiggled impatiently as Luis tried to patiently explain each letter and how they formed words. The woman found herself snapping her fingertips to regain Faris' failing attention.
"You 'ave to learn this one day, My Love, now pay attention!" Luis scolded lightly as she stared at her daughter. The female satyr re-wrote the alphabet on the sheet of paper again and even gently took Faris' hand to write with her as she made the letters so that the small girl next to her got the idea while the woman explained.
"You put a C A T down and you get cat," She said quietly to Faris.
"Cat," Faris parroted out and nodded somewhat bored. She didn't want to do this at the moment her eyes flicked toward the presents again.
Luis sighed a bit and shook her head, "If you learn some of this we'll open all the presents after we're done here."
Faris paused and stared disbelieving at her mother for a long moment and seemed to get a lot more interest in the letters though she didn't look at the presents again there was small detour in the lesson when Faris had begun to doodle all over the page. "..A'ight now is numbers," Luis said as she took the paper away much to Faris' dismay. The small gargoyle uttered a small groan. What did numbers have to do with anything?! Luis shook her head at the response, "That won't get ye the presents any faster," she pointed out and began to do the numbers lesson quietly, "This is a one, this is a two..." She said patiently illustrating what it the numbers mean in dots and even in candies she had brought with her into the lesson that seemed to make the lesson a little less painful in all.
Faris had learned how to add her numbers up to one plus two but soon she got too bored for even candy to hold her attention and her gaze began to flick back to the presents. The small gargoyle began to doodle again and that was when Luis took the cue once more with a sigh and took the paper. They would continue the lessons again but in smaller intervals and without some crazy holiday to get in the way, "Alright let's go open presents." FINALLY! Faris whooped and jumped up and ran to the tree ready to tear into the wrapping paper. Ever since she learned what this whole Christmas thing was about she was terribly excited about it especially where the whole thing of getting presents was concerned.

[META] EUREKA! L O O K I T ! Faris was so close she could feel it. She was about to unravel the hidden mystery of this table that had all these weird things carved into it that her guardian refused to explain, "F'uuuhh," the gargoyle began to sound out each bit and parcel of this word that seemed to fascinate her the most. Just as she was about to figure out how to sound the last bit her mother plopped down her winter jacket and things on top of it.
"Outside. Now." Luis said in a tone that was very much final. The red-haired satyr woman was watching and as she cleaned and getting the tavern to open for the evening and soon found that she needed a distraction and fast.
"But mama! I almost figured it out, I..." Faris protested and a single green eyed glare from her guardian caused her jaw to snap shut as her shoulders hunched a bit and her wings shuddered before she stood and began to put on her jacket and things and start to shuffle dejectedly outside.
Luis let out a sigh of relief while she stared down at the table with a small frown, she had hoped that the new tables would be here already but alas thanks to the holidays and other delays they weren't here yet. The next time she caught a drunkard carving things into her table she vowed to curse them with impotence that or make it to where all the alcohol they imbibe taste so bitter it makes them wretch into sobriety. Either way she wasn't having this anymore, especially not with a child that was starting to learn how to read and right, a move she was regretting no matter how necessary it was in today's world.
Meanwhile Faris crouched outside beside the paved walkway where she gloomily (and somewhat sleepily under the cloudy winter sky) stared at a small grouping of pebbles that she had taken out of her pocket. She had begun collecting them whenever she saw them outside thinking to give them to Sarson but usually she forgot about them in her pocket, now, for whatever reason she just remembered them and took them out of the pocket and now stared at them where they lay at her feet.
She wasn't thinking of anything in particular when it happened, all she did was wiggle her fingertips and the stones wobbled to and thro in response to the action. When Faris noticed her heart stopped in her chest and she widened her eyes and suddenly all motion from the pebbles stopped. The young gargoyle pouted at this and tried to recreate the scene only to get no response.
...That was not fun.
Maybe if she...
Determined she wiggled and hunkered down closer to the ground and willed herself to calm down once more and empty her mind, she forced herself to be as calm and still as the ground beneath her, though it was covered in snow she felt an almost instant connection to it that was hard to describe. She reached out a hand and splayed her hands out and the pebbles splayed out to where they were under each of her fingertips corresponding to how her hand was positioned. Faris' pupils widened excitedly as she bit down on her lower lip with her tiny fangs. Now that she had found the 'thread' to this little trick it was harder and harder for her to lose it and so the stones began to wiggle and vibrate with her excitement. This was the most awesome and wonderful thing ever. She jumped up and the pebbles jumped with her and ran into the tavern excitedly, "MAMAAAA~. Lookit! I can do...THINGS!" as she ran the pebbles traipsed faithfully after their mistress so she could show her mother her new trick.
Luis had been sweeping when Faris came running back in rather excitedly which was quite the change from the mood the small girl had left in. She could do things? Of course she could do things she was a small girl Luis smiled and laughed a bit, "Calm down, Dear Heart, what is this thing you can do?" She didn't register or see the pebbles 'chasing' her daughter into the tavern from the snowy outdoors.
The small girl wiggled in place and then turned and pointed down at the ground and it took Luis a couple of moments to see what the girl was getting at.
"I thought I swept tha--"
"Nonono! They my friends! No sweeping!" Faris protested quickly and then demonstrated the trick she had learned like a small excited little conductor while her hands flailed here and there and the pebbles responded rather obediently. Luis' eyes widened a bit and wasn't sure how to respond other than to hold the broom in the crook of her arm and clap her hands.
She shouldn't discourage her daughter, right? Luis smiled a bit, "Da's a right fine trick, my love," she said warmly after her surprise wore off, "lunch is almost done, pick up yer ... friends and get washed up," Luis said softly and watched as the small girl traipsed off to do so. The red haired woman sighed and rubbed her forehead a little. Why did she get the feeling that her job of taking care of this little girl just got a little higher in its degree of difficulty?

[META] DEAR JOURNAL A L L I S C H A O S Just got home and Faris just passed out next to me. It's been a long strange night. We have a new ... pet I guess. It floats, has one eye, and eats my umbrella every chance it can get and I half suspect that the few times it had my umbrella when we got home is because my daughter gave it to the damn thing. She insists that it should stay with us and that she needs to take care of it and make sure it stays safe. She calls it 'Critter'.
..Maybe I should give the damn thing my umbrella and be done with it.
I can't even begin to process what all happened tonight. I just know that I left Faris alone with ... Switch and I came back it was pretty much chaos incarnate more so than usual, even. Faris said something about a power mix up and 'tradesies' whatever that was and that she was happy that she could still get her pebbles to do trucks and what not. Whatever makes her happy I guess.
She got to spend time with Evari so that made her pretty happy in the end. Urgh. Everything is gettin' fuzzy and I'm gettin' kinda tired maybe I should just go to bed and plan to visit Switch later and talk stuff over and make sure she's doin' alright...I dunno how to explain it just ..everything tonight seemed so weird and sudden.
Almost like one of those dreams where you wake up and fall back asleep doin' somethin' different each time. I barely remember the trip TO the shop in the first place. Just that I had the real strong urge to go after Critter...
Augh my head...
Good night my love, maybe you made sense of this and when I come to join you...You had better enlighten me you large b*****d.

Growth Prompt:
Faris now has quite a few beings that she needs to protect; Her Mama, her colourful pet Sarson, those fun little pebbles that were outside of the bar.... So much protecting to do! Everything was going so well too, up until THAT happened. Yes, That. Oh, but every good Protector needs good Tools to help them! What happened to make Faris need to protect someone, and what did she use to help her? What, if anything, did she learn from this?

NO GOOD DEED G O E S U N R E W A R D E D It had been an average day for an elder gentleman named Cecil Daws. Mr. Daws was enjoying a nice little meal outside in the crisp winter air of the nearby park, well no one said that Mr. Daws was sane but he did enjoy himself some brisk air and a good sandwich and chips. A group squirrels and one chipmunk sat nearby eyeing him with greed within their beady eyes and Mr. Daws did his best to quite blatantly ignore them. He got himself a chip and one fell to the ground and before the gray haired man could reach to pick it up the chipmunk dived and snatched it up and scampered back toward it's comrades and the old man swore, just swore, that the chipmunk was sharing it's spoils. Figures. Perhaps that would keep them away...
There was no such luck. Soon the squirrels and chipmunk were coming back for more quite greedily so. Mr. Daws did his best to keep them all at bay but soon he was overrun and cursing and unable to enjoy his meal.
Faris had been playing hide-and-go-seek with her mother outside in the wintry weather. Despite it being daytime the young gargoyle was energetic since the sun was covered by a lot of clouds and the sky was gray. She could do with a nap but right now it was all about playtime and spending time with her mother instead of hanging around that tavern all day. She had picked an awesome spot it gave her a good vantage point to see where her mother was coming from but it also offered another vantage point from which to see the troubled gentleman facing off against hungry mammals.
The Gargoyle watched for a while her head tilting from side to side as she did before her brow furrowed a bit as the chipmunk out of the batch of attacking squirrels began to make for the sandwich. Silly things did they not know that human food is bad for them?! Not only did she feel a desire to help the man protect his meal but also to protect the furry things from their bad health choices. With a firm nod and mentally paused the hide-and-go-seek game she stood and gazed about before she found an abandoned wooden dowel nearby. What it was doing there she did not know but it was just the right height for her to swing around and be intimidating. With a battle cry of 'GONNA GITCHUU~' she sprung into action with her wings flared out.
At first Mr. Daws thought the small ... girl... thing was attacking him until he calmed long enough to see her chasing the squirrels and swinging the wooden dowel from side to side to scare them away. Pretty soon she was facing off with a very determined chipmunk who had momentarily abandoned the sandwich acquisition due to the new player on the field. The chipmunk was staring at her with determined beady eyes and she was glaring back with a fierce (yeah right) look upon her young face, her tiny fangs showing to further intimidate her small fuzzy foe, "Git back y'jackal."
The chipmunk stared and bared its tiny teeth but somehow felt out classed but very committed to its path. The battle worn creature scampered forth trying to get past her only to find that she wasn't swinging that strange thing about for no reason for the dowel had connected with the small creature and sent it flying into the nearby bushes with a small soft 'screeeei~' noise of dismay. For a moment Faris felt bad, very bad because she hurt the chipmunk but soon saw it scampering out of them with a bit of a wary glance back at her and him and his squirrel soldiers were gone from sight.
Mr. Daws let out a deep sigh and flopped into his seat and stared at the small Gargoyle with a bit of amusement, "Well thank ya kid. For that," he said as he picked up his sandwich and tore a bit off for her and offered it to her, "you deserve a reward."
Faris' eyes had grown wide and she dropped the dowel and wandered closer to him as her hands made grabbing motions for the morsel before it was finally in her grasp. She pulled herself up on the bench next to the older man and began to eat quite gleefully as she said with a slightly full mouth, "I y'am'sh Far'ish."
Mr. Daws laughed good-naturedly, "I am Cecil Daws, where is your mommy and daddy?"
The small girl shrugged, "No daddy, jus' mommy we're playin' hide and go seek. I can has chippies?" She seemed very unconcerned about the ongoing game since food had gotten involved. The man laughed and offered what was left of the bag of chips.
"You can have the rest of them you earned it." Mr. Daws said as he finished his half of the sandwich and watched over Faris as she chowed down on what was given to her by him. She was a cute kid, a little odd looking but cute.
"Faris~, child where y'go hidin' off to?" Luis called from a distance just as Faris finished her snack.
The girl gave the man a brief and sudden hug, "Gotta go! Byes!"
Mr. Daws blinked a bit and watched as she leapt off and toward the direction of the voice and shook his head a bit before he stood to make his way back to his shop. People would really get a kick out of this story that is for sure.
After Faris tackled her mother with a hug and a gleeful sound the young Gargoyle chattered at her mother about her good deed that she had done and about the fact that she had gotten rewarded for it, too! Luis made a small face at the fact that her daughter had accepted food from a stranger.
"Shouldn't take food from a stranger, darlin'." Luis said as they wandered home together their game had ended when Faris began to chatter at her about her adventures.
Faris stared up at her mother and simply smiled, "He was good peoples, I could tell."
"How?"
"I jus' could," she replied smugly.
Somehow that didn't raise Luis' confidence.

DEAR JOURNAL S H E G R O W S S O F A S T Dearest Farrel;
It's hard to imagine that I discovered her some weeks ago after she'd gotten out of that statue. It's hard to imagine that we've already been through so much together. She's touched my life in a very special way. I'm talking about Faris. Ever since you left me Farrel I felt so alone and empty I had nothing to really look forward to anymore without you there to help me along. Is this what it would have been like if we had managed to have children together? I think of her as my own, I love her as my own. I just don't know if that is good enough to describe it but there it is. I love her dearly and I think you'd have loved her too. She is very full of life and determined to protect everything with the best of her abilities.
The other day she helped a stranger defend his food from a band of roving rodents and now she wants to look for more deeds to do to help others for the rewards. I warned her that not everyone would give her something but she seemed okay with that and replied that it was alright so long as that they are safe and happy again.
Such a sweet child I am not sure what I have done to earn her into my life but I am very happy she is there.
I should go back and actually talk to Switch one day now that things are slowly settling down...I think...
Would you believe those bastards still haven't brought my tables yet?! They have some nerve and I am slowly running out of excuses and ways to shove Faris out of the Tavern. Gods give me strength; it probably won't be long until she figures out what is carved on the tables and make me explain each and every foul word written there.
Stupid bastards ruining our furniture!
I better leave off here before I start ranting again. I miss you Farrel and I hope the Gods are keeping you safe...
~ Luis
