"It's fine." Raine's voice was full of assurance as she moved slightly away from Blake's elbow. Still her hand shot out and touched his fingers. "You might want to look at how you hold the arrow as well, Blake."

Her fingers overlapped his as she demonstrated how her index finger stayed straight while the rest curved gently over the arrow and Blake's fingers. "See? It's easier to hold it there with one finger as a guide."

Raine grinned, "Don't just pull back, feel how the string moves and always keep your target in sight." She positioned herself away from his elbow and kept still, ready to follow and lead his movements. "But yes, pull back. Then aim carefully and let go in one smooth motion."

Hold the arrow? How many ways was there to hold a stick? Though, he trusted she knew what she was doing. She had been honest to him when he had been a youth, why would that change now?
He let his breath out slowly, trying to keep his arms steady. As soon as he loosed the arrow though, his thumb bumped the feathers so that the arrow flew to the side of the tree, ending up in the base of the tree behind it. "Well..."

Raine laughed. "Better than some." Her comment brushed playfully against Blake's ear before she moved to pick up another arrow. "It looks like something slipped. A finger perhaps?" She asked flipping the arrow into the air and catching it.

"A tiny brush of a finger against the tail that decorates an arrow will mess up the direction. You know- " Raine's fingers petted the fluff of the feathers, "These aren't for decoration only though they are quite pretty."

She held the arrow out to Blake, "Want to take another shot?"

Blake looked at the bow, then the arrows. He hadn't noticed the subtle touch of the feathers on his hand and frowned, wondering what part had bumped his arrow off course. Being trusted to handle another arrow though cheered him back up. "Don't hit the arrow. Okay." He loaded the arrow and aimed, careful to keep his hands still this time. He loosed the arrow, this time hitting the side of the tree so that the arrow bounced to the side to the ground. "Closer." He said. "I don't think I touched it that time...?"

Raine frowned as she studied the arrow's position. "I don't think so." She smiled at Blake and clapped softly, "You're getting better, Blake!" Here she paused before adding teasingly, "Though it'll take years of practice before you get to my level."

She picked up another arrow and twirled it in her hand, "I guess all I really can say now, Blake, is for you to practice. Once you get the feel of the bow down and can find your hold on the arrow, practice is the only way to get better. No teacher can fully instruct you there, but yourself."

Raine grinned, "Though I do have to say that the way you hold the bow might need a little work. You're a bit too tense and not aiming straight enough."

Blushing lightly, Blake scratched at the back of his neck humbly. "Yeah, you have had a lot longer to practice it than- I mean! Not to say you're old or anything, cause you're not. Least I don't think so. Though, I don't even know your age- and I'm not asking! You don't look old at all...."
Despite his reaching adulthood, he still had his young boy moments, suddenly afraid of insulting the female by mentioning age. His last experience with females and their age earned him a smack on the cheek. He cleared his throat, speaking quickly to move on from his out of place ramble. "That's because I'm not used to letting something go unless I'm throwing it. I'm trying not to drop the bow when I let go of the arrow."

Raine stared at Blake. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion before she finally laughed. "Great. I think I was just called an old wolf." Her grin spread, "Thankfully I only feel that way some days after acting as a mother to the pack."

She lightly smacked his arm before continuing. "Well that's something you'll have to get over, Blake." Raine nodded, "Just don't worry about letting go while you aim. Aim like you're throwing a very straight knife?"

Hmm...being an instructor was more complicated than she thought. Raine smiled, it was fun though. Hopefully he'd start liking the bow even if he didn't exactly learn how to be a proper archer.

Blake's cheeks turned red against his gray skin, though thankful that no slap followed Raine's observation. Instead, a laugh. In return, he allowed himself a chuckle when all he got was a playful smack on the arm. "Not necessarily... It's a relative term" Then he spoke in a much quieter voice, speaking to himself. "My daughter probably thinks I'm old too."
He cleared his throat again and held up the bow. "Yeah, but there's no throwing involved. It's just pulling back and letting go." With that logic in his mind, he plucked up another bow. "Just pulling back and letting go..." He took aim, released, and watched the arrow smack and stick into the base of the tree. Low, but at least on the tree. "Every day in every way..." He said with a smile.

"Sure it is~" Raine giggled before her sensitive ears twitched. What had he just said? Did he mumble about a daugh- The wolftaur shook her head quickly as a flush rose to her cheeks. Blake's life was none of her concern, right? No need to try to figure out what he whispered to himself then...especially since she might have misheard.

Raine sighed softly before looking up with delight at the arrow's placement. "Yup!" She clapped Blake on the shoulder, "See! It's possible after all for you to learn this." The female grinned mischievously, "That or I just witnessed a miracle."

Blake shook his head, not realizing she had heard his soft words. He was still learning about being a father. What a knock it have done on his life... "Heck, might be a bit of both you just saw there." He said with a chuckle. "I'd prefer to call it learnin' though."

"Good answer!" Raine laughed softly as she went over to the tree. With graceful movements the wolftaur pulled free the arrows and began searching for the fallen. She really didn't want to lose any so it was best to keep track and not let them all get lost around this tree.

Still facing away from Blake as she was gathering one of the last arrows Raine called out, "Want to take a break? Or show off your knife skills, Blake?" Raine hummed and walked over to where she had laid the rest of her arrows. Soon enough she had stacked them back up the way she had them before taking them out. Nice and neat, just how she liked it.

Indeed, while Raine had been arrow hunting, Blake had pulled out a knife and was tossing it around in his hands. When Raine asked about it he paused, looking on in surprise before laughing and shaking the knife in her direction. "Do you have eyes in the back of your head, Raine? Though, showing off was not my intention when I first got here." Flipping the knife properly into his hand, he turned and threw in one swift motion, the knife sticking into a tree, close to it's base.
"Hmm. Heavier than usual. Good!" He said with a nod.

Raine grinned at Blake, "I might." She watched him with an intent gaze as he threw the knife. "Nice!" She clapped before coming back towards him. "Heavy sounds like a good thing then?" She asked looking towards the knife.

She really had never thrown one seriously before...or at least in a long time. Knife throwing was never really her thing after all. Though Raine valued the skill and loved watching others use them. And Blake seemed pretty comfortable with them too.

"Thanks." Blake nodded around his pleased smile. "With winter comes heavier game. Gotta be able to get through the thick skin and fur." He chuckled as he pulled out another knife. "Besides. You never know when a nice big caribou will wander along. These knives are supposed to stay sharp longer than my old set."
He tested the weight of the next knife before throwing it. This time, he was only inches from where he had intended. He was certainly still learning, but he was good at it. "You wanna try one? I mean, you did risk letting me try out your bow."

"Oh, I see." Raine's eyes sparkled with interest as she thought more about it. Though she knew arrows should be light, the sharp tip was supposed to be sharp and heavy...ish. So since a knife was more metal and not supposed to fly like an arrow, it made sense. "Lighter ones probably break easier too, right?"

Raine blinked surprised. Her? Throw a knife? "Well..." She flushed lightly as she held out an open hand for a knife, "Only if you promise not to laugh at me, Blake."
