Aphismet watched with startled eye as that billowing smoke took some kinf of cohesive form, very clearly intent on attacking Rivener. The chef's mouth hung open in shock. "Is that her?!" Aphi asked, frowning slightly. It was sort of snake-like, yes, and the image of it brought back memories of Ebony and himself in a gold-strewn cavern... Only the snake at THAT time had been much bigger. And Aphismet doubted a sword stroke would do it much damage anymore.

As Ebony flew out of the house and Alex demanded to know how they could stop this thing, Aphismet was more concerned with getting Rivener out of danger. The chef was almost certain Riv must have provoked the smoke-formed girl somehow, but that didn't matter: Riv was Aphi's responsibility and the chef would do his best to keep him safe. "RIV! GET INTO THE CAR!"

There were still ways for the smoke to get in, such as through the ac vents, but perhaps it might buy the Sigel some time.

Rivener snarled as the smoke formed into a snake. Desperate, the Scorpion raised his wings and they shivered with readiness before he struck forward violently as Delia lunged at him, reaching out with his ghost-poison just in case... but the droplets of venom only dripped harmlessly through the snake-like cloud, and Riv found himself encased in smoke. He coughed and beat his wings, zooming out of the smoke. "Damnit!" Riv swore, glaring at the "girl".

Zul wasn't helping him, either, Riv suddenly realized. The demon was just standing there. "ZUL, Damn it!"

And then surprisingly, it was Aphismet's voice that drifted down with a rather clever suggestion. Riv was glad he'd listened to the human. With a sharp nod, Riv dove towards the car and opened the door, slamming it shut behind himself. He flicked all the air vents to "closed"... as closed as they could get, that is. Surely there were other places to get in that he wasn't aware of, but for now he was safe enough. Probably.

Ebony stumbled back when the image of the plume snake struck her. Suddenly the memories of the day of her soul capture came flying before her eyes and the woman shuddered. They'd almost died that day. And now it seemed the reborn soul was even more powerful due to the influences of the smoke essence. You couldn't kill something that had no physical form.

As if to prove the Brit's mental point, she saw as Rivener tried to strike his poison tipped wings into the vapor that was her charge. She couldn't help flinching at the action and feeling something a kin to relief and possibly smugness when the stingers went right through their intended target. Of course she didn't want any harm to come to the scorpion, least of all from Cordelia, but...Cordelia was her main concern. Nothing would change that.

Looking up to Alex from her fallen position on the ground, the violet haired female quickly tried to process her question. What were Delia's weaknesses? Did she even have any? Ebony was drawing a blank until their most recent encounter with David and his Raevan popped in her head. "Prajna! Prajna did something to stop her when their were fighting, but I haven't a clue what!" 'Oh come on Ebony, THINK! There's got to be more you can give them...' "WAIT! It left Cordelia really cold!" Great, and how were they suppose to do that? Ebony had only heard of one Raevan that could conjure ice and he wasn't anywhere around.

Meanwhile, a series of hisses was given off by the great smoky snake at Rivener's feeble attempts at hindering it. It was obviously meant as laughter, a sure sign that the virus had overridden Delia's logic and reason. She was running on the instincts of a basilisk and her pray wouldn't escape her. Even when the Sigel rushed to enclose himself in the metal machine, she slithered after and loosened her concentrated form to drape casually about the vehicle. It wouldn't be long now, he was trapped and she would find a way in.

The Italian also fell to one knee, mostly to stay by Ebony's side and ensure her safety. She also wanted to see to the safety of the Raevans, but they were both far out of her league - they'd have to think fast if they wanted to spare Rivener and save Cordelia. It was about to get very messy if they couldn't stop her! Alex bit her lower lip as Ebony tried to sort through her memories, and didn't blame her in the least for not being able to instantly recall; she herself felt relatively scattered, and it wasn't her Raevan!

Her face brightened as the violet-haired woman remembered, and it made sense, given how much she'd held onto Zul when they first met. "Cold, okay! We need...ice, do you have ice? We could lead--" Alex saw motion in the corner of her eye and turned her head to see Zul's head lift towards the car.

"ZUL!"

"
GET INTO THE CAR!"

"
--Cordelia--!"

COLD.

It was all so...so terribly distant, the way their voices found his ears, which rang with the cruel hissing sound that the smoke had emitted. Zul deflated and 'fell,' his hands landing hard on the ground. When he looked up, the voices had stopped although he knew their mouths were still moving. He could see the smoke, and he knew that it wasn't his Cordelia. She was gone, and in its place was a thing of vengeance and darkness. It was something malicious, something angry, and it was going after Rivener.

His Rivener.

Rage suddenly devoured his crestfallen feeling, a tidal wave of self-righteous fury that crashed through him, rolling around in his chest and surging down his arms. Zul was a catalyst of anger, the conduit for the sudden frigid air around him and the ice that crystallized around his eyes and jaw like perfect sky-blue scales. His rage poured out of him and through his hands, sending a snake-like line of solid blue ice towards the car.

The ice reached the destination and erupted into a cerulean wave of ice crested with a froth of white snow; it 'splashed' against the grill of the vehicle and turned on the cloud of smoke that was beginning to crawl over the hood. The wave curled and spiraled in on itself, twisting until it had fully encompassed the smoke within, the grey matter locked inside the giant icicle that was nearly fifteen feet tall and half as wide. The residual of the magic left the ground frozen in a wide berth around the now iced menace.

Zul slowly turned himself upright, his eyes as vivid and as bright as they'd ever been; in that moment, he felt alive, beyond his limits and without the sickness that had threatened his ability to function. It was still there - he could feel it, a tickle of warmth that quickly began to spread through his chest, but he felt like himself again. The demon floated high, approaching the crafted prison and putting one hand on the clear surface. The ice was smooth and opaque, a testament to just how cold it was.

"Stormy," he purred over the cage, his breath crystallizing in front of his lips as his warmth began to return, "come back."

Alex's knees were wet from the solid ice that touched them, feeling frozen as if she'd been turned into a statue as well. Wide, unblinking eyes stared in open shock and mild fear at her charge as he approached the icicle with nonchalance. She only knew her mouth was hanging open because she could dimly see her breath forming in front of her face, but it didn't register she was gaping, as much as it was that she was still breathing. That seemed like a very big step, right now.

Rivener was backing against the seat, trying to press himself into the very back of the cushion in the passenger's side. He glared at the smoke encompassing the car, trying to will it to stay out there. Rivener felt so damned helpless, and it was one of the first times he'd ever felt anything like that. He could do nothing! It was so frustrating! Riv was usually the one doing the saving from things, not the one in distress!

Although if he could trust anyone to come to his rescue, it would have been Zul. The huge ice wave that suddenly surged towards the car had Rivener inhaling sharply in fear, eyes wide, but he kept trusting that Zul wouldn't hurt him. That much ice, though...

The stuff curled like a live thing around the threatening smoke, forming a huge spike right in front of the car. It solidified and for the longest time everyone just stood still, watching Zul float forward to put a hand on the icicle. Rivener blinked, eyes wide, and only remembered to breathe after a few moments of eerie quiet calm. Slowly the Sigel unlocked the door and exited the vehicle, shuddering from the cold. He left the door open and backed away from Zul and the trapped basilisk, frowning in concern. "Z-Zul?" he asked, wondering if the demon was alright. He'd saved Riv, and that was great, but was the frei alright too?

Aphismet had lifted both hands to cover his mouth after he'd taken one step forward in front of the women. That ice sped across the ground and crawled half an inch over Aphismet's boots, and the chef realized it didn't matter where he stood: he couldn't have stopped anything at all from harming Alex and Ebs if Zul had been facing THEM instead. He could only watch with wide eyes as the demon tried to call Ebony's raevan back from inside the icy prison.

"Holy hell," was all the chef could breathe, quiet.

And just like Cordelia had, Alex's Frei suddenly burst. Though not in exactly the same way, it was still rather dramatic and grander than one would think possible from something supposedly so young. Was it because of the virus? Or was it because of what they were? What was Zul's soul anyway?

Still on the ground, Ebony felt her silver eyes grow in size as her mouth popped open with shocked awe. She watched silently as the ice cut through the air and flooded the immediate area with sharp coldness. She quickly gathered her arms to her chest and shivered, the ice only mere feet from them. What if they had been caught in that?

So quick she was to her feet that the woman looked a purple blur as she ran and slide into the huge, blackened ice that was the snake Raevan. Ebony ignored Zul floating there and began desperately clawing at the block. "CORDELIA!" she screeched loud before both her fists and feet began to pummel the ice in hopes to break or weaken it. The girl might have been smoke then, but she was still part snake and the Brit knew all too well what happened to snakes that got too cold.

There had been something like a flash that had distracted her momentarily from her stalking of her prey before everything went dark and cold. Cold...she hated cold. Why was it so cold anyway? A muted sound reached her ears, where ever those were, and she wondered why it felt like her hearing was being muffled by cotton. Then she felt it expanding to the rest of her body. She was so tired now. Perhaps a nap would be good.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:37 pm

Alex found herself genuinely frightened, her thoughts skirting dangerously close to Ebony's; what if they had been any closer? He had knowingly spared Rivener, but what about the rest of them? She slowly got to her feet, arms wrapped around herself with large eyes locked on her charge, a bit pale. She wasn't sure she was ready to approach Zul after that little...display, but with Ebony leading the charge in a whirlwind of purple, she couldn't let the woman risk harm from her charge.

Even so, her movements were very slow, her joints feeling as frozen as the ice beneath her boots. "Zul?" she ventured, eyes flicking beyond him to Rivener, who looked just about as put out as she did. "Are you okay?" The woman took Aphismet's arm for a moment, trying to get her bearings.

The demon looked towards the Scorpion and gave the Sigel a bright smile. "My Rivener is safe," he said in that same purring voice, blue eyes turning back to the icicle. "So will be--"

Ebony thrashing against the ice made Zul tilt his head, watching her for a moment. She hadn't struck the Frei to be a loud one, but he supposed panic could make monsters out of saints. He was dimly aware that he was rather calm despite everything that had happened, which felt far more familiar than the apathy and sense of lingering rage that still iced his veins. "Miss Shade," a dark brow lifted over a blue eye, "she'll be okay."

Zul looked back to the iced smoke and put both hands over the icicle. For a moment, nothing happened, and the demon's face flickered with the briefest hint of confusion. He wasn't absorbing the ice again? Not that it mattered. He had other means of thawing at his disposal! Soon, his hands were melting into the thick ice, the tip cracking as the side weakened and falling off. Chunks of the icy prison followed suit, cascading from the melting and breaking ice to add to what was on the ground.

One bone-framed wing extended over Ebony, deflecting a stray chunk of ice; with his facilities momentarily restored, he had enough wits about him to want to spare the humans now. With his arms nearly speared through the ice, the last of the frozen fortress fell, the base splitting and freeing the captive smoke, his warmed hands still reaching for her.

Aphismet took a step forward when Ebony rushed ahead, but the chef remained behind to wait for Alex. The Italian got up not long after, the two of them walking towards Zul and that ice prison. Alex was holding onto Aphi's arm, and the chef wouldn't have it any other way.

While green eyes made sure Zul was alright, Aphismet focused mostly on Rivener. "You okay?" he asked as well, frowning in concern at the Scorpion.

Riv nodded at his guardian, although he stayed far away from the ice and the demon-frei. Zul turned a smile towards him, announcing that Riv was safe now, and the Sigel smiled back hesitantly. It's not that Rivener wasn't grateful; it was just mildly embarrassing to need to be saved in the first place.

Not only that, the demon was spending way too much time catering to that smoke-Raevan-stuff, setting it free with a clatter of ice to the ground, reaching for it instead of leaving it there and rushing to Riv instead. The Sigel momentarily glowered, baring his teeth at that damned smoke. Zul is MINE! He shouldn't be paying so much attention to someone or someTHING else, damnit!

Riv's wings flexed. If only he could touch that damned smoke! ...He'd have to come up with a poison that can do something. He WOULD come up with a solution! Rivener refused to be helpless! And then once he could get rid of that smoke, there'd be nothing holding Zul's attention apart for Rivener himself. He wouldn't have to compete with rivals. There'd only be Riv and Zul.

Aphismet raised an eyebrow at his Raevan's odd behavior. Riv was moving back and forth like a caged tiger, staying out of the ice radius and just watching Zul with such fierce eyes. Not very usual... Since when did Rivener look at Zul with anything other than puppy eyes? Concerned, Aphi turned his gaze back to the icicle, where the last of the prison fell away and revealed a much more subdued-looking smoke cloud...

His words reached her ears, but their meaning was lost on the woman as she continued to beat away on that mini glacier. Zul, Rivener, Alex, Aphismet...they all faded into the background as she concentrated solely on getting her Raevan out. Her bare hands began to bleed from the sharpness of the shards, but Ebony wouldn't let up. Time wasn't on her side right now and she wouldn't lose another family member. Not like this. Not again.

She was forced to stop and step back though when the ice began to thaw and break. The Brit ground her teeth and raised her arms to shield herself. When grey eyes peeked out, they saw the demon was melting the ice away and using a wing to help keep the cold debris from hurting her. Ebony felt a small swell of gratitude towards Zul then, but it was marred a bit by the fact that he was the one who'd frozen Cordelia to begin with. Still, he'd only done it to stop the snake, so she was profusely torn between her emotions toward the fire-ice Frei at that moment. Ebony frowned and looked to the ice, "Cordelia..."

The Basilisk was all for drowning in the sleep that was dragging her down deeper into the abyss, although she had no real concept of what that would mean if she gave in completely. Yet while she was contemplating this odd struggle, something was beginning to break through the coldness. It caused her to stir, the warmth teasing her to wake. Why? Why couldn't they let her sleep? She was so tired after all.

A great crack sounded as a huge chunk of the encasing fell off, melting away. The smoke released in a puff, but it did disperse this time, leaving only the dark girl behind. Her half form slide to the ground in an exhausted and limp manner, but her black rune still glowed strong in defiance towards the cold still lingering about her form.

Ebony felt so much relief at the familiar sight of Cordelia that tears welled up and slide down her tanned cheeks. "Oh thank goodness! Thank you Zul! Thank you so much for bringing my girl back!" In her fit of joyous sobbing, the purple haired woman did something so out of character it was sure to get around the gossip pool the next day, but Ebony didn't care at that moment. She quickly hugged the Baphomet in a tight hug before dashing over to her charge.

The Italian bit her lip, holding onto Aphismet's arm and feeling rather helpless to do anything while Ebony beat an impressive dent against the ice prison. She almost called out to Zul to do something, but she saw his arms sink into the ice and knew that he was on it. Alex sighed softly, momentarily leaning her head against the chef's shoulder, closing her eyes; it had been a long week, for everyone, and she was afraid of what would be in store for them in the days to come...

At the sound of the ice cracking and yielding to the pressure of fists and heat, green eyes opened again to observe the damage. "Ah! Cordelia!" she exclaimed, surprise in her features but relief wholly in her voice. A quick grin flitted over her face as Ebony hugged Zul, looking up to Aphi to express her joy, but she caught his odd expression and followed his gaze. Rivener...did not look happy.

Giving her boyfriend a quick kiss on the cheek, she disentangled their arms and stripped herself of her hoodie, moving to Ebony's side and draping the cloth over Cordelia's shoulders. Her bandaged arm stayed around Ebony, the other touching the Basilisk's dark hair. "Thank goodness," she whispered. To Ebony, she murmured softly under her breath, "Can I get you anything for your hands?" The blood red may have been diluted by the ice, but it wasn't hard to see on the otherwise dark looking woman.

Satisfaction pulled the demon's lips into a wide, toothy grin. He knew she'd be okay! Zul did manage to look rather pleasantly surprised as Ebony quickly hugged him, only having time to touch the woman's back in return before she had dashed off to Cordelia. His woman followed suit, and the Frei was content that the Basilisk would be in good hands; his part was done now.

The ice scales melted off of his face as his body heat continued to rise. It probably should have alarmed him, but he felt the stoic crawl of apathy covering him, similar to when Dayo had been feeding. Zul turned to find Rivener staring at him rather...menacingly, which momentarily left the demon feeling winded, as if the Scorpion's gaze had struck him. A slow, possessive smile began to creep over his tanned features, bone wings shuddering to remove any ice before settling against his warm back.

"Such a hungry look," the demon purred, approaching the Sigel and all but colliding with him without warning. One hand slid beneath the bi-colored jacket enough to expose one of Rivener's shoulders, Zul lowering his head and opening his mouth, lips pressing firm against the muscle there with a slight drag of teeth. The sick heat of his illness began to wrap itself around him, which he pointedly ignored in favor of an impromptu marking session. He could have his Rivener now, the threat was gone...
PostPosted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:17 pm

Aphismet was startled to find the smoke cloud had not been smoke at all, but a rather smokey-colored Raevan instead! So this was the creature he and Ebony had fought? ...He'd expected she'd be more... green. Although the smokiness seemed to fit Ebony so well. What a lovely girl. As long as she wasn't trying to attack Rivener, that is.

Alex kissed Aphi's cheek, a rather surprising peck, and then moved to Ebony's side to offer her hoodie. Aphi took a few more steps towards both women, frowning as he noticed the blood on Ebs' hands. "Can you two move?" he asked softly, leaning down. "If we can get your Cordelia inside, the fire must be roaring by now. And we could sit and look at your hands. ...Well, Alex could. I'm no good at first aid." The chef smiled, wondering if there's anything else he would be able to do. Fetch blankets? Warm water?... It was mostly up to Ebony now. Aphi placed a hand on her back and smiled, doing all he could really do for sure: let her know that he was there and ready to help.

Rivener stopped pacing as Zul finally took notice of him again. Finally. The Scorpion bared his teeth, annoyed at how second-rate he felt. Zul had been much more worried about the damned smoke-thing, which was now a smoke-girl. How much did Zul like that girl anyway?! She was obviously more important to him than Riv was! What the hell did Riv mean to Zul anyway? The Demon had never once said he loved him back, and the ill-stricken Sigel was tired of waiting, dammit!

Zul approached with a purr, shedding the last pieces of ice and making himself comfortably warm before launching at Rivener. The Scorpion was intent on shoving Zul away at first, but hot lips on his shoulder near the neck made Riv moan instead. Hands he'd wrapped around Zul's arms, ready to push harshly, slipped instead to the demon's back and held him tightly. Returning the demanding affection with similar attention, Riv proceeded to mark his Zul the same way he himself was being marked.

Alright, that had appeased him for now. Enough not to attack Zul in frustration. Not enough to erase the slight completely from Riv's mind, though. He frowned as he hissed his questions into Zul's pointed ear. "Why did you pay so much attention to her? You're mine! MINE! I should be the one you look to first! ME!"

She slipped a little on the slick, rapidly melting ice as she sought to catch the falling Frei. Once the girl was solidly in her arms, Ebony buried her face into the dark hair which was unbeknown to all there an identical shade to her original color. She should have been shocked and surprised by the utter, desperate way she clung to her ward then. It really hadn't been all that long yet, but somehow Cordelia had wiggled her way deep into the Brit's heart.

There was a moment before she looked to her injured hands. They looked like strangers hands with the blood smudged all about the skin like that. "No, I'll take care of it later. They'll be fine." And they would be, thanks in part to her little nano secret. By this time tomorrow they'd likely be nearly healed since the cuts weren't that deep, just numerous which made it look much worse than it was. Even so, Ebony felt a tad bit self conscious and quickly wiped the remaining blood on her jeans.

Cordelia didn't stir from her blacked out state much like she hadn't after her altercation with Prajna. How long would the girl sleep this time? She was shivering some however, but it began to slow after Alex draped her hoodie over her frigid form.

At the chef's approach, "Aphismet, I am soooo sorry. I didn't think she'd do something like that. She's normally very gentle, honest!" At the mention of the fire, Ebony's cheeks reddened slight. She hadn't the chance to get it started before rushing back outside. "I-I didn't get it lit before running out here, but that may be a good thing."

She glanced to her Raevan again, a frown creasing her features as she saw the mark on her neck was still there, taunting them with its very presence. For some reason, Ebony had hoped it had disappeared what with all this, a possible indication that Cordelia would be free of the virus soon. But that was obviously a pipe dream, she could see that now. In a lowered voice so that Zul and Rivener wouldn't hear, "Lazarus's mark...she's still infected. The heat only seems to make things worse I think. Course that may just be with her, I don't know. Should I take her back to the Lab?" Surely Kyou would be better equipped to containing Cordelia than her. But if Delia was infected, that meant all the others they'd been in contact with were infected too. How many Raevans could that be? Would the doctor be able to quarantine them all if he needed to? My god, this truly was becoming a nightmare.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:51 pm

Alex looked momentarily embarrassed, eyes dropping as Ebony began to mention the infection. It took a few heartbeats for her to look back up towards Aphismet, her gaze slightly guarded, expecting reprimand. "Aphi, what you just saw - Laz was infected, when he attacked us. I didn't--damnit, I didn't think at all, when I came over, and...Zul, he's infected too. That means he infected Riv and Eiry..." Her resolve wavered and her attention dropped down to Cordelia, moving her hand from the Basilisk's hair to the mark, although she didn't touch it, simply ghosting her fingers over it. She could have been imagining things, but it felt warm to her.

"I don't think Kyou has found a cure yet," she finally said slowly and quietly, crestfallen. She felt like, somehow, this was her fault for not acting sooner when Lazarus had grabbed her so inappropriately. If she'd just seized him then, would they all have been spared this? "You might want to consider it. I'd...I'd suggest watching her for a day or two, make sure she recovers from this first, and then call. I'm watching Zul too." How many Raevans are infected due to my carelessness?

The woman exhaled, eyes scouring Cordelia's face for any discoloration or signs of distress. "I've never seen anything like this, in all my years, not in the wild or captivity." Alex hated admitting a lack of knowledge, even if Raevans weren't her field. "I'll call Kyou this weekend and see what he says. You should definitely call him, since you situation is somewhat more unique..." The Italian glanced side-long at the two humans. "I'm sorry."

The attention was nice, but the words...he did not like. "Because she attacked what's MINE!" The demon growled in return, and his voice was anything but his own. He didn't care who heard. The vision of Lazarus glaring at him over keeping Cordelia away from the Incubus flitted through his eyes, which narrowed further. "He wanted her and he can't have her," he hissed, bone wings snapping open and flapping with irritation, "and I stopped him, I stopped her, they can't touch what's mine-" The Basilisk was his! "-do you want me to stop you, Rivener, my Rivener?"

Zul's ego soared dangerously as his ranting became slightly disjointed, using his wings to gain some leverage and try to push the Sigel against the car, much as he'd been pushed against the wall some days before. The virus was returning with a vengeance, his eyes losing a little of their color as they roamed over Rivener's face in a way that was far too intimate and excited for what was happening. "No one will touch you but me," he breathed, the tone becoming darker still. "I know this. Do you want me to worry, my one?" He didn't say it, but the implications were dripping from his voice; did he want the demon to worry like the humans, to treat him like an incapable child? Zul trusted his own abilities. Why didn't Rivener?

The demon lifted his hands and grabbed the Scorpion's horns, his colorless eyes staring with a white fire into Rivener's red. "What do you want, my one? You have all - you have me. What more do you want?" There was venom in his words, a thread of anger that was not being very well maintained in that moment. Zul knew very well he was putting his hands in the fire, but in that moment, the demon was rearing his head and would not be looked down upon! His body temperature increased once again, the heat giving his hair life and sending his central horn into white-hot pulses.

Aphismet was listening to Ebony and Alex talk about infections with growing concerns. Laz was sick, Aphi had already surmised as much from the bits he'd heard before, but he was contagious? When Alex turned to the white-haired chef looking so sheepish, the man already knew what she'd say. He blinked at her with wide eyes, mouth hanging open in shock. Zul had infected Rivener? And also Eiry?

As much as Aphi was slightly miffed that he hadn't been told before, he was much more relieved that the odd, violent behavior in his house since Zul's visit was NOT simply because Riv was turning into a monster and Eiry's Sigel growing had skewed his mind towards insanity. This was all due to the sickness, and if Kyou might be able to find a cure then everything would go back to normal! Aphi let out a deep sigh and nodded, taking a step closer to Alex and hugging her and Ebony both. "It's alright, Alex, Ebs. I'm just glad to learn the Raevans are just sick, not going insane. I'm sure your girl is a sweetheart, Ebs. I won't judge her until all this sickness is resolved."

But for now, Cordelia was the most stricken. She was part snake, and if heat made the virus worse... that would explain Rivener going off like a gun constantly. The Scorpion was as fond of warmth as Cordelia probably was... Aphi would have to try and keep the Sigel cooled. "I think I'll have a better idea how to keep Riv from freaking out, thanks to all this. Cold is the key..."

Rivener didn't like the way Zul was reacting to his demands. He was droning on about someone attacking what was his, and for a while Riv thought (with no small amount of pleasure) that the demon referred to RIVENER as his possession. But then there was something about someone wanting her and not being able to HAVE her, as though SHE was his possession... Zul was claiming Cordelia as his own?! And now Zul was threatening to stop Riv from-... from what, dammit?!

Zul suddenly pushed, Rivener backing into the car half through surprise and half through willingly moving where Zul wanted. It was a reflex, moving however Zul wished, but this time Rivener resented it. He frowned at the demon, whose voice was oddly different and who was ranting on and on in some belligerent tone about worrying and what Riv wanted. The final straw came when Zul grabbed at Rivener's horns, capturing the Sigel's head and exerting dominance.

Dominance! Over Rivener!? Zul had to learn his damned place in this relationship! With a roar and a baring of his sharp fangs, Riv snapped his wings wide open threateningly and twisted his head powerfully, wrenching his horns free (with a rather sharp stab of pain). Strong hands then shoved Zul with all the power Riv could muster, sending the demon to the ground with a thump. Riv lunged down after him and both wings plunged into the demon's shoulders as the Sigel held Zul's arms, sneering down at him. The Paralysis poison should take effect very quickly.

"Watch your TONE, Zuuuul. You can stop the snake-smoke, you can stop Lazarus, but NO ONE STOPS ME." Rivener retracted his wings and let them tremble as he spread them wide again, making himself appear big and strong. He completely overlooked the fact that Cordelia had, just now, stopped him very effectively indeed. Perhaps that jab at his pride was also a reason why his temper had snapped and forced him to re-assert his strength like this. "I have you, Zul, but I want you to have ONLY me! NOT HER, NOT ANYONE ELSE!" The Scorpion glared up at the snake-frei now tucked against Ebony.

Aphismet held his breath as the fight had began, and he was now rushing forward. "RIV!" Out of all the people Rivener might attack, Zul had been the last one Aphismet believed to be in danger! What the hell was WRONG with Riv lately?! "Rivener, let go! LET GO right now, we're going home!" He glared at the Sigel.

Riv leveled an unimpressed stare at his guardian and casually got up again, releasing Zul's arms and dusting himself. Showing off. Hrmph, how easy it had been for him to do that. "Fine," Riv huffed, glaring down at his beloved. "Next time, you better treat me with more respect. a**."

"IN THE CAR." Aphismet frowned as he held the door open, slamming it shut behind the Scorpion once he'd sashayed his way in. Apologetically, the chef called back to Alex and Ebony, smiling lopsidedly. "Sorry about that, girls... I think I'd best take him home. Zul should recover in a little bit, I think, Alex... I'm so sorry! ...Good luck with Cordelia, Ebs!"

The chef hurried to his side of the car and began arguing with Rivener the minute they were alone, clearly seen through the windshield. It was going to be a long, loud car ride home.

Now that she wasn't freaking out about Cordelia's disappearance and possible death, Ebony could think more clearly and logically. She would have to call both Yuurei and the Naos to warn them of their Raevans exposure to the virus. Though it was far too late to spare them this kind of pain and worry, they at least deserved to know what was going on should their charges begin to act odd. And hopefully, by getting the word out they'd keep the rest of the Raevan population safe from infection.

Ebony nodded dejectedly towards the Italian, also discouraged by the news of the doctor not having found a cure just yet. Gently smoothing the Basilisk's dark hair, "I'll watch her then before I call. I know the Doc's got his hands full with just Lazarus right now. Maybe if I keep her cool enough, it'll keep her from lashing out again." It sounded good in theory, yet even Alex had just admitted to having never dealt with anything like this before. And the Raevans were all so very different. She just prayed this would pass soon for everyone's sake.

Smoke colored orbs fluttered open once the harshness of yelling and shouting reached her ears, pulling her from the darkness. Wearily, she looked towards the source of the fighting and wondered who that black and red Raevan was with Zul. What was going on? Why were they fighting? And why was she so cold? As if her arms were made of lead, Cordelia slowly lifted a hand to place on both human females near her, those questions burning quietly on her face.

The Brit was glancing over to the two half formed males fighting. She frowned also wondering similar things her Frei was when Aphi was suddenly there, yelling at Rivener to get in the car. And before she knew it they were off on their way, the violet head only having enough time to raise her hand in a farewell wave. She'd have to call him later as well, to thank him and apologize once more for her ward's outburst.

That's when she gasped light at the icy touch to her cheek, but then sighed. "Cordelia...don't worry. Everything's going to be fine. I promise." Turning back to Alex, "Thanks for coming out and helping. I'm sorry about everything that happened. If there's ever anything I can do, please let me know." Slowly, she began to stand, lifting Cordelia with her. She owed them so much now, but it was somehow different in feeling than when she'd owed David. She felt like she'd owe them for a lifetime and yet, that was absolutely, perfectly fine with her.

Her eyes had remained away from Aphismet as he gaped at her in disbelief. The hug did little to convince her that he was okay with her short-sightedness on the situation. She didn't bother to mention that 'insane' was just a side effect of the virus; between Laz's behavior and now Cordelia's, she was beginning to piece together the effects and symptoms of the virus that seemed to be commonplace between all the Raevans.

Alex had mostly ignored the shouting, trusting the males to look after one another no matter what. Her green eyes rested upon the Basilisk's face as the newborn stirred, relief flooding her chest and making her feel weak and noodle-like. She lifted her bandaged arm from Ebony's back and held the ice cold hand against her cheek, smiling softly at those unspoken questions. "You'll be okay, sweetie," she promised the dark Frei, her other hand moving to tuck the hoodie more firmly around her shoulders. "You're in good hands."

The demon was almost disappointed when Rivener reacted, treating him no different than Eiry. The stingers in his shoulders didn't immediately register in his mind, feeling no pain as the poison made his veins burn in a way not unlike the virus, immediately feeling lethargic and unusually heavy. Zul's resolved, smug smile was still on his face, even as his colorless eyes stared to and through the Sigel without much emotion in them.

Before he could reply, Rivener and his Guardian were gone, and his body began to react violently; the points where he was stung swelled and formed a momentarily p***y bubble before lava spewed out of the wounds. Zul managed to roll onto his stomach, eyes wide as he stared at the cooling magma on the ground, fingers lifting to touch his points of injury. He still felt extremely weighed down, but the poison was coursing down his skin now. Had his sickness rejected the foreign matter? He didn't want anyone to see, slowly pushing himself up into a 'sitting' position, breathing hard. He suddenly...didn't feel so well...

Alex watched the two leave with mild confusion. Zul should recover...? Did Rivener sting him? The Italian stood with Ebony, looking to her again and giving a short nod. "Don't hesitate to call me if it happens again, okay? We're all in this together." She didn't want the violet-haired woman to think she had somehow inconvenienced her; on the contrary, it let her see more of the virus and perhaps understand a bit more of the mystery illness.

The woman moved to her charge, checking his shoulders - and sure enough, the pucker of inflamed skin was still visible, but it was already starting to disappear. She ran her thumbs over the liquid next to them and immediately felt the digits go numb. "Damn," she murmured softly, gathering the demon in her arms and helping him get upright, "why didn't you fight back?" Alex didn't like Zul being handled so crassly, but she couldn't help but acknowledge that there was some karma being dealt back to both of them.

Zul tried to smile, but it didn't quite work, his eyes beginning to close. "He's...mine," the demon slurred before slumping into the woman's embrace, radiating heat sickly as he passed out.

Gathering the Frei's ribbon in her arms and careful not to touch his rune, she gave Ebony another smile. "Good luck to both of us, huh?" she hefted the light-weight Frei in her arms. "Hopefully we'll see each other soon under better circumstances. You take care, Ebony...Cordelia." With that, Alex situated the Raevan into her truck and took her leave.

It was time to do some paperwork for Kyou.
