Opal smiled at the successful hit, as did Itzal. But neither of them saw the Ice Beam coming until it was too late. The Dewgong was already charging the attack. "Move, Itzal, move!" Itzal's eyes widened and he scrambled to get out of the way, but the attack was quicker. Like greased lightning, the freezing beam hit the Gengar and soon immobilized him. Opal straightened her hairband out of nervous habit. "Oh no..." She looked to her opponent and then to the Dewgong. The trainer prayed that Itzal wouldn't be frozen for long...

"Good job Ayir!" Raina called to her dewgong as the ghost froze in place. "Follow up with a Thief attack!" she called out and hoped it would do a good deal of damage because if not they were looking at the end of the battle pretty soon.
Ayirwen smacked the ice with her tail in celebration when the icebeam froze the gengar in an awkward position but as soon as the command was issued she was back in the game and she slid forward with her horn glowing purple to unleash the attack on her unmoving target.

Opal gritted her teeth as the predictable Thief attack came. Knowing that she couldn't do anything about it was hard, but she hoped that the freezing effects wouldn't last for long. As the super effective attack hit, however, the immobilizing ice began to crack. Itzal saw a breaking point here, and he muscled his way through the crack, and soon broke free. Opal let out a cheer. "Way to go, Itzal! Now do another Energy Ball!" The Gengar regarded her with a smile and let the green energy flow in his paws and let loose the ball once more.

Ayirwen managed to avoid the worst of the attack but it still hurt, a lot, and she was getting very tired, her breathing was heavy as she turned to face the gengar once more.
"Ayirwen, use ice beam again!" Raina called knowing that their only hope lie with the attack having a long lasting effect.
Ayirwen heard the command and she had already expected it, it was her only chance now and she focused hard on her goal, freeze the gengar, freeze the gengar, freeze.... she chanted to herself in her mind as she unleashed the blue beam at her target.

Itzal was, to say the least, elated. He may just win his first battle with his new human! The Gengar realized what he was thinking and turned his gaze to the young woman who rescued him. It was a surprise to be found by her and certainly Nerezza, but despite all that he said and did, he was grateful. But Itzal quickly got his head out of the clouds when he saw the freezing attack coming once more and promptly dodged it by mere inches. He then turned to the Dewgong, who was looking a bit worse for the wear. "I'm terribly sorry, my dear, truly."
Opal was as excited as Itzal, perhaps even more. She looked to Itzal and smiled when he evaded the Ice Beam. "Nice job, Itzal! Now one more Thunderbolt!" The Gengar once again let the energy flow through his paws and let it fly at the Dewgong. He hoped this would be the last time he would have to attack.

Raina knew that this was the end as soon as the icebeam missed it's target and she cast her glance to Ayirwen who also seemed to realize she was about to lose.
The dewgong shook her head in disbelief and anger at herself when her attack missed Itzal but after a moment she snapped out of it, she wasn't going down like that, looking pitiful, instead she straightened up, as best as she could, ending with a very regal looking pose and she stared straight at her opponent. "All is fair. Good battle. I hope we meet again." she said calmly as the thunderbolt attack hit her and she did her best to refrain from spasming. As the electricity left her body her eyes slid closed.
Raina had been watching and knew that Ayirwen never liked to go down looking pitiful so she held off until the dewgong's eyes slid closed to throw the greatball that belonged to the valiant creature who had tried her best. "You did a good job Ayirwen, we'll just have to train some more." she whispered before she clipped the ball back to her belt and she looked up at the other trainer. "Excellent battle, maybe we can do a rematch sometime. I've got to get her to a pokecenter though so I'll see you later!" she called and waved briefly before turning and darting out the door at her end of the stadium, heading for the city's pokecenter as fast as her legs would carry her.

Itzal watched as the Thunderbolt flew at the Dewgong, but was surprised to see her take the full blow. How noble of her to go down fighting... Good show. He smiled charmingly and also rather sadly. "I do apologize, my dear. It was an excellent fight. You are one of the strongest Pokemon I've met. May we meet in battle again." Itzal watched as the Dewgong was withdrew and her trainer rushed her to a Pokemon center. As they left, the Gengar drew a small salute, then walked to his own human, not without a little spring in his step.
Opal saw with a small sense of admiration as the Dewgong took the full hit. Like a true warrior... Who dies on his feet. She thought wistfully. She smiled at her opponent and waved. "Yeah! Thanks for battling with me! We should battle again one day. See you!" The young woman smiled. "She was pretty nice... And it looked liked she cared for her Pokemon a lot." Opal then looked to her Gengar, who was prancing happily to her. No guesses why. The trainer smiled. "All right, kid, a deal's a deal." She took off her backpack, reached into it, and pulled out the hand mirror. Itzal's eyes twinkled as he retrieved the mirror from Opal and started grooming himself in it. Opal smiled as she put her pack back on and the two walked to the exit, both smiling with the win under their belts.
"Hey, Itzal?"
"Gengar?"
"Want to go get some ice cream?"
"Gen-gengar!"
